Hey, Just wondering how popular each army was and Why. Also, please list what specific parts of your army you like stats-wise and what you may or may not like about it.

CSM: Awesome new rules and options, great "counts as" opportunities

Eldar: cool Jes Goodwin models, from back in the day

Guard: ordinary humans winning against all odds. And Tanks. Lots of Tanks.

SM: Knights in Space, what's not to like?

WH Sisters: Nuns with Guns - again, inspired!

Chaos. only chaos.

mostly, I like the bad guys, especilly uber-villans. also, i love the over-the-top conversion posibuilities.

CSM's let me play a little more standard of a game, be it mech, gunline, W/E, but have many sneaky tricks. Daemons let me shake it up when I get tired of playing a MEQ army, or feel the need to mess with my oponent a little more than normal.

Necrons.

I like the fluff and the look of the army.

And after a while of playing them, I actually enjoy the feel of them for the most part.

Lemme see:

Witchhunters: First army - chose them because of the art on the cover of the codex.

Orks: Second army - fun to convert, plenty of different ways to field them.

Emperor's Children (CSM): My friends and I decided to do an E.C. army for the Adepticon Team Tournament in 2007, and as the person who painted them, I kept some of them, and added a few others as time went on.

Eldar: I like painting harlequins, and I like the sleek look of eldar grav tanks

Imperial Guard: When the vostroyan models came out, I thought they were so characterful I had to do some of them.

Daemon Hunters: After you already have the assassin models, the inquisitor models, the inquisitor stormtrooper models, and the inducted vostroyan guard models, you pretty much only have to buy a couple of daemonhosts and you have a daemonhunter army too. I picked up a box or two of Grey Knights to go along with them too.

Chaos Daemons (Slaanesh): After the broke proper daemons out from Chaos Space Marines, I had a ton of daemonettes and mounted daemonettes, so it wasn't a huge expense to buy a few extra models and field a slaanesh daemon army.

Chaos Daemons (Khorne): (Current Project) I like the new juggernaut models.

Hmm.. there are 2 reasons to why i chose my armies
first is the obviouse visual appeal.
2nd is which ever army allow me to play the style i perfer which is my Eldar.

If you seen the interceptors from protoss carrier? thats how i like using high speed armies) .

The rest are build ups from payments of commission i took while i used to play.
Helping the store owner paint his 40k, fantasy , FoW have its benefits :"D

CSM: Homage army. Very versatile and not snooty like those other heavily armoured marines worshipping a false emperor.

Dark Eldar: Torturers, Slavers, Fast and Fun. What's not to like about seeing you're raiders crash and burn and watching your troops either die or run off the table?

Both Tau and Eldar.

Tau because I like a challenge. I,also, like the anime look of the army and the fluff.

Eldar because it's what my wife wanted to paint. Also like the Celtic Tuatha D' Dannan/ Riders of the Shide folk lore side.

Lots of Eldar, mostly the awesome old-school Jes Goodwin models. (Same srname as me, and GW's best designer - awesome)

Orks, 'cos they are fun. Always loved ors, but was not always keen on the models. Love the latest ones though.

You're not going to get a single answer from nearly anybody. Almost everyone plays more than one army.

Chaos Space Marines: I have an absolute infatuation with Chaos. From the look of nearly every single model (The only ones I really have a problem with are the Oblits), to the fluff, to the conversion opportunities, to basically...everything. The only reason I don't play Chaos Daemons is because I think the Codex isn't balanced at all, and there are not nearly enough different units to justify making it into it's own army. I have an idea for at least ten different CSM armies (or variations on existing ones) running through my head at any given time. I'm considering consolidating all of my CSM into one force, as my Word Bearers are now worthless and I would like to be able to field all of my units at once.

Tyranids: Actually, my first completed army. I really love how customizable the entire force is, and I love close combat. Enough said.

Witch Hunters: When I first got into the hobby, I thought that Witch Hunters had the coolest looking units out of any army, but I had no confidence in my painting abilities, so I decided to stay away from them until I could do them some justice. Just recently picked up a small 500-point force of them and managed to squeeze in an Exorcist (My favorite tank model in the game), and I'm pretty happy with them.

I'll give you a single answer.
I only play SM. Why? Because the box sets were a cheap way to get an army started. And after about 7 years my friends finally talked me into playing. LOL.
Of course, I love the background of the SM, like someone else said, knights in space. I also like the flexibility of army lists. If I want to play shooty, I can, if I want to play up close and personal, I can. If I want to try something crazy, I can. Heh.

Necrons - they were my first army. Easy to paint, relatively inexpensive to get started with incase I decided I didn't like 40K after all, and rather forgiving as your learning the game (at least it was in 4th).

Daemons - I wanted something that was decent in hand to hand, liked the models, and mostly, I was thinking of branching into fantasy as well, and this way I got an army that I could use to try fantasy, but I could still use for 40K if I didn't like it.

Space Marine: First army. I just loved the look of the beakies.
Tyranid: Fast, aggressive, numerous and requires a different play style than marines.
Tau: Great models. Looking forward to getting some paint on them.
Eldar: Fan of wraithguard. Been trying to get Iyanden to work since 3rd edition. Much closer now.

Orks because the concept of ultra-violent psychic hippies struck me as cool and I saw them as the comic relief army. I've had fun and I still think they'll be my main army for some time to come.

I've also started a small Witch Hunters army because I love the model range and it fit the bill as being an interesting and low model count army as opposed to my few hundred Orks.

Eldar were my first army, I still break them out now and then.

Space Marines because I enjoy painting them

Chaos Daemons because they're new and shiny and I had a bunch of Tzeentch daemons given to me by my wife and another friend who can't use them in their Chaos armies any more.

First army was Necrons, I liked the Fluff and the idea of mindless warriors marching forward killing everything in front of them.

Second army was Orks, I played them when I was a wee little kid but fell out of the game, so the second time it was a bit of remembering all the good old back in the day moments, pluse it just fit my style of playing "Ya ok, I just threw 11 boyz and a nob in to a carny and wall of genestealers, I know sounds stupid, but thats one more tunr my slow ass Meganobs have to get to you! Rawr!"

Third is Daemons, I was looking for a Fantasy army to start and I liked the idea of being able to run them in both.

Wood Elves because I like painting them.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

I've always felt that Crimson Fists have kind of a Black Power vibe going on, which I find to be hilarious.

I'm also currently working on some Necrons, and I'm kind of thinking that buying AoBR to get started with Orks and Space Marines sounds like a pretty good deal.

For WHFB I have an Ogre Kingdoms Army.

My first army was Orks, because that was what I played in WFB. I liked them because of their might is right philosophy and general lack of angst. After I got tired of them I played Eldar because they were the exact opposite, both in terms of fluff and the miniatures. My painting had to get a lot better since they are so clean and defined. After them, I started playing Chaos Space Marines because of the codex and all the options. I expanded to the Lost and the Damned when the Eye of Terror book came out because I always wanted my chaos force to have some light troops. I started back on Orks when Assault on Black Reach came out because of the new models and the new codex, and because the new Chaos Space Marines codex was such a dissapointment. (No cult Terminators, Daemons as a seperate codex, no more Lost and the Damned except as gakked-up apocalypse datasheets.)

Orks.

I started orks way back as 4th was coming in to replace the necrons I was using at the time, & when I dropped out the hobby I just had a boss & two squads of boyz, so it made sense to 'continue where I left off'

I love the humour of orks aswell.

For my next trick! Im considering IG, but that depends of the codex. or possibly pure thousand sons. or possibly dark eldar.

Tau : First Army grabbed because how it look somewhat familiar to the BatttleTech mechs I played many years ago
Arbites: The idea of collecting an OOP army that looked cool and allow for interesting converts and counts-as was something I counldn't resist
UltraMarines: After five years, I decided I needed a Marine army and the Company box was a great deal. Chose the boys in blue becuase they are simply Iconic.

Some though would point out that I have a Boy Scout complex and picked out the 'Good Guys' in the universe, The Greater Good, Cops, and the most valorous and upstanding Marine Chapter. What can I say?

My first army was SM, and still have them 12 years later. They've gone from a DIY Chapter, to Dark Angels, to Ravenwing to Pre-Heresy DA using vanilla rules. Also had a Blood Angel army in there that was canabalized for the DA. My reason was pretty much that they're Space Marines, what's not to love about power armor wearing super soldiers dropping from obit giving out the Emperor's justice?

My second army, and still my favorite, are CSM. They started out as vanilla back in early 3rd edition, and became Iron Warriors soon after. From there I started a Death Guard army. I love CSM because they used to be regular Marines, which I already liked, but then they gave into the lure of Chaos. They were the heroes of the Imprium who fell from grace.

I also have a deamon army, mainly because I'm a big fan of Chaos, so they fit in nicely. I also had a Word Bearers Lost and the Damned, but that didn't last.

The other main army I play is IG. I started them because the thought of a line from the Codex about them being just normal guys with guns and a lot of guts behind it. After years of playing super soldiers, playing an army of normal guys and massive tanks seemed great to me. They fell to Chaos for a while as LatD, went traitor using normal IG rules, and are now waiting for the new codex where they will be an Imperial Army regiment under my Pre-Heresy DA. I'll wait to see if they can be mechanized or airborn with the new codex.

Dark Eldar: I was 8 and walked into the store to find a GW hosting a battle between then and SM at the time and was commentating about how the DE take prisoners and have spiky bits, i loved the raiders and jetbikes so i started and never got around to finishing the army, which i have lost most of =(

Eldar: Cousins of my first army DE and i love every bit of fluff, and the models. I would sit up all night reading about the eldar, their gods, way of life, the fall and loved it and still do.

Tyranids, who doesnt love a bio-tank that kills everything and then eats it, which gets eatten by bigger thimngs and so on lol

1st army - now Guard. Well actually ad mech based on the guard list. Something differnt, a challenge, great modelling opps and TANKS!

2nd army - SM - cheap, cool to build up a company (not so much now you can buy one! a little too easy, and no way would I have achieved it with that much plastic sat in front of me!). Have dropped them becuase I'm sick of power army armies these days. On here there's a good mix but at my flgs I'm the onmly one not wearing power armour apart from the odd ork player dropping in. Sticking to my motto - don't complain set an example lol.

3rd army - don't really play but orks - modelling and gorkamorka was ace!
