I was just wondering what the age breakdown is for dakka users so ran a quick report. Attached is an approximate breakdown of the dakka age range. If you are 23, then congratulations you are Mr (or Mrs) Average. As you can see we have a lot of older users and a lot less teens than you might expect (though they certainly tend to be quite vocal). Funny to see we have a few people age 11 and under because dakkadakka.com is older than they are!

Where are you getting the data from Lego? I don't think "older than dirt" has a defined age.

Actually I didnt notice it at first, but you can clearly see the 'hobby dip' in the graph in which people turn 18 and many give up the hobby to chase the opposite sex and go partying. The tyranny of further education and work seems to bring many people back though

The voluntary date of birth field on the member profile page. We could have even more old users than indicated as many might not want to share their D.O.B. with the site even for these interesting statistical purposes. Likewise people could just be outright lying, though there is no real reason to do so and there are some traps in place to detect it so it shouldnt be too many (apart from the guy who claims to have been born in 07AD - he got left out).

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Lego you are so right about the age dynamic. I stopped playing due to uni/social life then work took over. Only now when all my friends are getting married I find myself regressing to good old 40k!

I started 40k when I was 19 (it was also when it started).

I gave it up for a few years from 1994 to 1996 (no time to play - work and social life and stuff).

I'm one of the "older than dirt" members. Also a card-carrying "grmpy old man" (my wife agrees with me on this."

I didn't think that people my age (15) were such a (relatively) big percentage of the population here. I certainly won't suffer from the '18 dip period', because I wouldn't have much luck with socialising anyway.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I'd wager they are quite a few years higher than 23.
