Cool.

Still wish it was a 1st Edition re-print, though...

Man, if I still played RPGs, I would be all over that!

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

I'm guessing this is pretty much the same system and Dark Heresy. It would be a shame if it wasn't.

From the description in D6G it sounded like it's kind of a different 'tier' to the game. Dark Heresy is levels 1-10 (or whatever), Rogue Trader will cover 10-20, and the eventual Space Marine game will be more 20-30. Or something kind of like that. The D6G guys tend to get a little wonky when discussing RPG terminology as it's not really their thing, i think. RT should have rules for starting at it's base power level and be a bit wider in scope than Dark Heresy.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

This looks.....awesome. Hopefully it's a big fat book though, if it costs $60.

But man, that might be enough to get me to play an RPG again!

Same universe different faction.

Dark Heresy is Inquisition.

Rogue trader is Xenos and exploration fleets.

One of the greater or minor Rogue trader houses, most likely.

Warhammer 40K universe just got a little darker. Great find.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Man o man alive. I've had to change my shorts twice this week already. So can you play this as a stand-alone or (as reviewed by D6G) need to start out with DH and when your char gets to 10th switch over to RT?

I remember the good 'ol days of sci-fi/sci/fantasy roleplaying with such titles as: Gamma World, Aftermath, Traveller and Star Frontiers. I'll be fun to get a 'Space Opera' campaign going again, especially in the 40K world.

Will you have some Liz Claiborne Marines as bodyguard?

Well this planned back when Black Industries still around. With any luck the third major release, the game based around Deathwatch, is still in the pipeline as well!

This appeals way more than Dark Heresy, but if it's compatible, that means I already have a 'monster manual'

That's the main sticking point. This game needs to be workable with Dark Heresy. People should be able to take their Dark Heresy characters and move them straight into Rogue Trader (if the plot allows for that). The mechanics of the game need to be the same, and just the settings and nitty gritty (character classes, new abilities, weapons, etc.) should change.

Ok, well the Designer Diary answers my first big question:

Fans of Dark Heresy will be happy to know that Rogue Trader is fully compatible with their game system, and Dark Heresy characters can join a Rogue Trader on his voyages! The Rogue Trader core rulebook has an extensive section on bringing over characters from one game into the next.

This is excellent news.

Oooooh, now this is good news and an extra incentive to make our characters grow a bit more before release.

I wonder if the new careers also include "lovely lady in very tight but uplifting corset with hair pinned up"

So, when's this Gen Con?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
