QFT.

I was upset at first, but more because they didn't just set the price at $58 to begin with instead of at $50 then bumping it.

Anyways...whaddayagonnado?

A: Get it 20% of at the Warstore = $46.40 + S&H, not all that bad.

Imperial Guard Valkyrie

The Valkyrie Assault Carrier is a twin-engine attack craft used for aerial insertions and drop missions. Screaming across a battlefield, a Valkyrie aircraft deploys its cargo into the fray, providing a deadly torrent of covering fire as the troopers within disembark. Valkyries carry a fearsome array of anti-personnel rockets that can shatter entire formations. Lethal strafing runs leave a trail of destruction in their wake.

This box set contains one multi-part plastic Imperial Guard Valkyrie. This 128-piece, finely-detailed, miniature can be assembled in a number of ways and with a number of weapon options, including: rocket pods, a lascannon, a multi-laser, Hellstrike missiles and pintle mounted heavy bolters. Model supplied with a large oval base and an all-new clear-plastic flying base that will secure it in a heightened flying position.

Price: £34.25

im no good with working out the rates, but roughly working it out, its pretty cheap still

So does that mean that the Vendetta is going to be a completely separate kit? What's so hard about throwing in a couple of extra lascannon parts? If it had been listed at $58 (really, what an odd price, why not an even $60? who sells a kit for $58?) in the first place I wouldn't have cared, that's the price they wanted, whatever. But now it just makes them look bad.

A mistake is one thing, but why in the hell did they leave it like that on the website for several DAYS if it was, in fact, a "mistake" and someone typed 0 instead of 8? Does no one at GW ever actually take a good look at their own damn website or check their own work (proofreading is for the weak!)? If they had caught it a little sooner it'd be understandable, but the fact that it took them this long to catch the "mistake" makes me think it was intentional, that they were generating interest and then made a grab for cash at the end, knowing plenty of people would buy it anyway regardless. But that would imply that they were competent enough to actually pull off a scam, and I really don't feel comfortable making that claim...

I suppose anything is possible, but I don't think we'll be seeing a price decrease with the new kit, especially if it includes multiple turret options.

Vendetta is probably going to be a seperate upgrade sprue, ala the Battlewagons forthcoming Deff Rolla and Killkannon one.

Dunno what else might be on it, but I reckon we might see a Leman Russ Alternate Turret sprue as well.

It was only listed as $50 in rumors and early price sheets. I made a couple posts weeks ago about the staff in GW stores changing it to $58 on their release info sheets.

Rumor has it that it was bumped to 58 but that sales really wants it to be 60 they just didn't think people would go for it once it hit the 60 mark.

But, expect it to go up to 60 when they do the June/July price review.

Im actually one of the few that believes GW ALWAYS misprice new items on purpose ( dont they always? )

And then they sit here reading forums ( multiple forum of course ) on our replies . If they see us been fine with the higher mistake, they'll raise the price
to that. And claim the cheaper price was the mistake.

I agree with LunaHound. This is (off the top of my head) the fourth such "mistake" I can think of. It's usually not that the new price is so much higher that the item won't sell (though in one case it was for many), but it's the feeling that they are trying to engineer a situation where people MUST order RIGHT NOW as soon as something hits preorder because otherwise you will pay more.

Fot the record, the things that I know were cheaper at preorder than release: Lord Of the Rings Battle of Five Armies, 5th ed Space Marine Codex, Realm of Battle Terrain Board (the one that price many away from it), and now the Valkyrie.

Either GW (like the Cylons "has a plan," or they need to get better supervision on the web/marketing team.

Does it really matter?
People are going to buy them anyways.

I sincerely doubt they have a bunch of guys just sitting at the PCs watching the forums for the posts to go up about ordering it and then leap into action, to save the day and steal our cash.

From what I've heard, it was not a price hike. The original listing of $50 USD was an error, stuff like that happens

You underestimate the malice and forethought GW puts into its business model. Into each model it pours its hatred, cruelty and will to dominate all life.

@Kanluwen. I doubt GW has people watching the boards. And it usually doesn't matter that they raise the price.

@Greyfox: It could be a mistake. If it didn't happen so often.

There's an old saying. "Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action."

This is GW's 4th "mistake." Three within the last year.

If these things were totally random errors it would seem likely that at least one of the four would have been in the other direction. Have we ever heard "oops we put that on the website at $5 more than it was supposed to be." I haven't.

If it is deliberate it would be in order to make people think the next time something comes out, "hmm $50 for a jetbike warlock squad. You know when the valkyrie came out ot went up before release. I better preorder."

In other words it is a marketing plan to get people to order from GW direct.

LIke I said above though. If these are just mistakes then they need to check their website better.

Paranoid much?

Nice to see people avoiding examining all the circumstances, like changes in exchange rates (Valkyrie is still £35 in the UK).

Realm of Battle was down to the first batch not being up to scratch, and thus not sold. Being done by a third party meant GW had already paid for them, and needed to make their money back. Or so I'm told. May not be accurate.

Doesn't work that way for Canadians sadly. Exhange rate, shipping, customs taxes and the customs "handling fee" where they charge you $5 for the service of charging 15% of the package price...

Between making it $70 and nerfing Hellhounds it's like GW is trying not to sell me the model.

Nah, not paranoid. I don't think gw is out to get me, but after this many of these mistakes in so short a time it makes me think there is more to it. Looking at evidence and coming up with a hypothesis is not being paranoid. It's NOT I TELL YOU!!!!!

Anyway, it has been evident for some time that GW wants people to order from them directly, between limiting discounts, no pictures on webstores, and the advent of direct only models, they are trying to get people away from other online retailers. There's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make them "evil," it just irritates the customer. In many cases it irritates them right away from the hobby.

If this is a deliberate practice it does the same thing. By encouraging early direct preorders it 1.) gives GW more direct business, and 2.) gives them an influx of up front early sales on new items. Both are good things from their perspective, but will eventually annoy people until the practice becomes standard (such as limiting discounts).

As far as the price change being due to exchange rates, that one I have to call BS on, or at least say you are mistaken. GW has never based prices on exchange rate. If anything the price of the Valkyrie would have gone down since for a long time the pound was 2:1 against the dollar. Now it's more like 1.5: 1. Several other UK miniatures manufacturers have actually lowered prices in the US.

If they went with straight exchange rates how come I hear so many complaints on these forums from people in continental Europe because the euro to pound exchange rate bears no relationship to the prices in continental Europe. See also the Canadian prices.

I know MDG that we are sometimes too critical of GW, but I think this time there is a point to, if not criticise, at least keep an eye on.

With current Exchange rates, that makes a Valkyrie US$51, MDG. I'm not buying that reasoning.
