Those of you who had Lego, what did you try to build with it? I remember trying to build the following:
Boat from Jaws: This had a fatal flaw that I was never able to circumvent. In order to give the bow a rail like in the film and fit a Lego man on it had to be four studs wide but it always looked too wide. One of the great unsolved engineering mysteries I suspect.
At-At: I used to pull this round like a dog on a leash until its legs fell off.
Perpetual motion machine: I gave up on this as the Lego blocks were too inefficient to make this work properly – the physics were fine of course.
A vehicle that can travel on land, air and water: The grail of vehicle design.
Transformers: I built tons of these that actually transformed. I still have a robot I built somewhere.
BTW: do you say Lego or Legos?

A lot of spaceships/bases etc etc.
Also was obsessed with building a transformer out of lego , for god alone knows why seeing as I had the actual toys anyway.
I remember at school there being a craze for building vehicles which we would then ram into each other until they fell apart-- akin to conkers I guess-- in a game that had a hideously byzantine and elaborate set of rules and conventions that seemed to just evolve and were, to my recollection anyway, never formally discussed.
Think this was just before we all went mental over yoyos ( ..no me neither) and a year or two before Garbage Pail Kids.
Legos of course. The real knack in communication being how you described the part you were looking for, the happy hours looking for a "two-er" or a "four-er" ....ahh to be young again.
....especially considering the kick ass lego sets they get these days--you seen that Batman Lego they can get ? Ungrateful bastards.

Hmm... well lego have one side thats always smooth right? (the side that doesnt have the interlocking teeth)
so i would build boats or sleigh side ways that can use the smooth side to slide across the carpet.
of course there are sharp corners that dug into the carpet and it flips / gets broken.

legos are in the blood.
i built everything from castles to spaceships to airplanes to guns and armor that i tried to wear.
when i got older i had fun making demolition derby monstrosities that i would smash endlessly together with my friends, the first one to explode lost. the funny thing is though that i think i can count on one hand the number of legos that i actually broke, damn they're tough. unfortunately losing them is a different matter. i should probably have double the amount that i do now...lol
my 5 year old son found my bucket of legos and now has a damn tupperware crate worth of them thanks to christmas. he loves his trains though and has made everything from the one he designated the bombinator because it carries dynamite to normal csx and conrail versions.

I would like to put forth the proposition that treading on a piece of lego barefooted is in fact the single most painful experience in the entire world other than getting kicked in the nads*.
Seriously, childbirth looks a doddle in comparison. And you get to lay down when you do that.

I, umm... built what the instructions from the box said to build. My brain reasoned that anything I devised myself most likely could not compare to what paid engineers designed and, judging by the things my friends tended to make, I was fully justified in my decision.

I'm sure there's a support group out there for you. That is rough indeed.
The official models were cool and all that, but nothing compared to the awesome +10 spaceships I used to build. Nothing I tell thee* !
* Assuming you ignored the bits where I ran out of the right colour or shaped brick and improvised. But that merely added character --see what they did to the M. Falcon or the ship in Alien.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'm sure there is, I'm just a stickler for details. I still am to a lesser degree, which is why I rage inside(and not outside) if someone isn't using something in 40K that looks like GW's version/aesthetics(Lord help you if you bring a BT mech into an Apocalypse Game I'm in).

I wish I still had all my Lego, I sold it all to buy a computer when I was a teenager. I built that robot in the early 90's out of a housemate's lego (based upon a design I'd made with my own Lego) He moved out and forgot to take it with him.

I used to make vehicles which would eventually include weapons of some sort. I also made towns for them to invade. I'd make elevated houses supported with legs made of small 1-tooth parts so the vehicles could ram the legs and send the house falling down. I had a walker once that would smash through walls and grab people inside.
It was fun.

God I cant wait till my son is old enough to play with those. (he is but dammit my daughter will eat those like crazy) Anywho I usually would build military weapons. I remember the first one that got me into that was seeing a quad-50 from a WW2 video and thought "Thatd be cool to make"
Also all manner of space vehicles/space craft boats. I even made some stuff from the movie WATERWORLD and re-enacted some of that movie. Too bad Kevin Cosner is in that movie... my GOD that man cant act

Space stuff.
Late 80s, used it to make 'titans' for 40k, and battlemechs.
Still use it to make titans.
[ Wife says "You leave MY lego alone!!!"]
Oh, and I still have much of it. Kitbasher and scratchbuilders friends, they are.
Where else are you going to find a variety of dish shaped pieces pre-molded? Even the GW design studio used to use them for planning out builds.
