Feel like I should offer some opinion here...

Lego was a massive passion for me from a young age. I mainly built town stuff and vehicles, but had a lot of castle and space stuff as well. I cant remember making anything too amazing as I would start on something, then instantly think of something better and do that instead.

I bought a few kits of lego recently (since they reissued pirates this year) and while it was fun enough assembling it, I am too old now and the space it takes up annoys me, and the lack of usefulness for the finished models is a problem too. I got pleasure from the nostalgia but alas I am bitter and older now so am unable to enjoy it in the same way I did when I was young. The stuff I bought will be going into the loft to await the first sprog when the time comes.

I would say that more complex structures *models* required building, I think thats why I fell out of it, that and video games.

When I was a lad, we used my lego collection to play whatever the current toy crazy was that none of us had figures for yet, such as M.A.S.K., The Visionaries, Robotix, Star Wars, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica, etc. Later we used them for RPG and Wargaming figs for when we did not have the right mini. I gave my nephew my collection long ago. At its peak, it filled a "treasure chest" about 3 feet tall and at least two foot wide each side, boy was it heavy (at least it was then). I should ask my brother what has happened to it since then.

I started out with modern day towns and vehicles, moved on to castles. Then pirate stuff, combined with castles. Then articulated robots. (That robot earlier on was AWESOME)
Eventually I stopped, because modelling minis was more satisfying. My new job in an irish speaking daycare centre has lead to me playing with lego again, though I have to be careful I don't make anything the kids couldn't make or might fight over!

When I started 40k I stopped spending money on Legos. Fortunatly I kept it all and it's still a really huge collection.
Unfortunatly however, I don't have it here in the city, but at my family's vacation home in the Black Forest.

So did you ever attempt to set fire to your legos? This is important.

I heart Brikwars to the max. I want more City sets so I can have Brik War City Fights with civilians(yeah, I bought the big box of like 36 minifigs) caught in the middle.

I refer you to the usernames sticky thread. Mine is just a boring combo of having lego sitting on top of a cd burner. I dont remember burning lego, but I burned a lot of stuff as a teenager so who knows.

The wife and I are unable to have kids, so we get the added benefit of keeping the lego for ourselves (and sod the nieces and nephews - they can get their own).

I never set fire to things as a kid. my brother was the pyro. I was the kid who takes things apart to learn how they go together. Then puts them back together and with luck they still worked.

When I was young, I liked ("classic") Space and Technic. I had the go-cart, engine set, and the car chassis - pure win!

Then I when I was living on my own, I got some Castle stuff.

Also, my little guy has plenty Duplo.

And I'm back into Castle, with a little Exo-Force. Nothing as grandiose as what Anung has, but I've figured the basic design, and just going to set some time to build.

I loved lego as a kid. I used to build all kinds of things from towns and castles to ships and space vehicles. I once made a giant helicopter but sadly I dropped it and it fell apart. My uncle gave me his Technic lego and I used to build vehicles and put the cannons from Pirate lego on them, of course I had to stop them before I could fire the cannons. I gave all my lego away many years ago but I really miss it.

I despise the whole Bionicle line, but that Exo-Force stuff looks pretty damn sweet.

So, what are your thoughts about the "licenced" Lego. Star Wars, Indy, Harry Potter.

IMO, of all the licences they have to make Lego for, Batman is the best. Because everybody knows that Batman's garage doesn't really get smaller.

Holy cr@p!

I did that. My cousin and I each had HUGE collections. As with yours, our rules just evolved over time... After X amount of hits, you could squeeze your model back together. You HAD to have a driver. It could only have 2 pair of wheels but, if those came off, you could freely reattach them.

I had some extreme designs, too. I used to make the front half of the vehicle SOLID, with a clear plastic square as a "windshield.' (Had to have a windshield). I'd also use the little "L" shaped brackets, built into the front of the vehicle, to make a solid wall-like RAM on the front of it.

Ah, good times.

This thread's full of win.

Oh... and we made a 7 story hotel with a working elevator (Manual, of course. LOL).

>>Edit... thought of more<<

I never understood, as a kid, why the boats I made always leaked, took on water & sunk.
I mean, I scrunshed those things together TIGHT. LOL

Then, once, I made my uncle mad when I tried to use some of my clay to waterproof the legos by fulling the underside of each lego with clay before sticking them together.
They were my cousins legos. : )
Didn't work, either.

If I had legos now, I'd use them to make dungeons out of for my AD&D 2e campaign.

I hate big Bionicles. Although apparently, there is some minifig-sized Bionicle stuff out there. I'm OK with that.

I'm OK with Exo-force, because, it's fundamentally standard minifigs in giant robots. What's not to like?

Batman is pure win. I have the Bat Tank - how cool is that?

Star Wars is OK. The rest of the licensed stuff is completely uninteresting to me.

I usually made spaceships and robots. For a while I had a Voltron them going. I think I had 3 or 4 of these kind of human-shaped robots that would become space ships with a leg and head switch. My first conversion.

I spent today in work sorting 5 big boxes of lego to find and reassemble all the men, and sort the pieces into sets. Vaguely soothing, though I know it's going to bug the crap outta me when the kids mess it all up again...

I had legos back before all these Star Wars sets and other new-fangled do-dads. I built a lot of cars and trucks, and some buildings and towns. I remember when Lego released the 'shock absorber' bit for vehicles, probably about 1983.

Okay people, here it is. Over the easter weekend I was in the Black Forest again, were my parents bought a house to get out of the city on the weekends. I keep all my Lego there, except the Batcave and the Millenium Falcon which are on the shelve next to me, right above my DVDs.
So, this is it. Anung's Lego collection!!

With the execptions mentioned above this is all the Lego me and my older brother scraped together over the last 24 years or so.
You can see the 4 sacks, which are all filled with Lego and several boxes. I'm trying to get all of this stuff sorted right and when I'm done I can really start building.
