Hey! Those are NOT crummy!
Although I do see several BURPs in there.
:edit:
By the way, I was at Target around 30 minutes ago. I came across a bunch of Pirate Lego. For like $66 I could have gotten 11 soldiers, 11 pirates, 11 cannons, and 11 wall segments.
Some times it seems like Warhams is cheaper. Scary thought.

I wonder what the chances are we can get Lego to get a license from GW so we can get Lego SM and Baneblades. My inner nerd may have a heart attack if that were to happen.

BURPS and CRAPPS
I forgot to take a picture of the boxes I have on a shelf. I have a lot of ground plates to build on and a box full of train tracks.

See, I actually agree with you on this. I like them a lot and I use them for castles and stuff.
I guess that the Lego elitists don't, though.
Btw Lego elitists are very low on the nerd ladder. Come on, getting snobbish about a bunch of building blocks?
Lame.

I'm OK with them for precisely that: Castles & Fortresses & Towers and such.
It boggles my mind that the recent Dwarf Castle didn't use a bunch of BURPs and LURPs.
That said, in my day, we didn't have juniorized Legos. We had to build stuff from basic components. I had the original Car Chassis and Go Kart, and the stuff today can't hold a candle to those designs.

I know what you mean. Large rock and castle pieces are fine, but in a lot of sets these days, the parts are just getting bigger. Just look at some of the Star Wars stuff.

This thread is awsome! I used to build whatever felt cool at the time (usually what had been on telly in the morning). Had castles, pirates, a city, made a massive airport, lots of trains. Loved making car transporters and secret thunderbirds style bases with crazy machines. Still have loads. Apart from my flat I think it's still what I've got most money stashed in. Technic was ace too, have the black super car, the black truck with a grabber arm and the red forklift tranpoter out on show still, along with a harbour. Annoyed with the little cogs and rubber bands though, they've broke with age and can't find the instructions to take the things apart to fix and get them back together!
Stopped buying soon after bionicle and the yellow submarines. Lego these days is absolutly awful and dumbed down. Kids I lived with last year loved building the new sets (some of which are big!) so for a birthday i bougth them and old boat/trailer/jeep (£6.99) and they struggled with it so much, even had to have a break while they made it. I'd have had the thing together in 5-10mins max at their age! Can't stand the new stuff. As for the licence - star wars is ok, it was just before the major dumbing down so there's some cool stuff, but the rest goe's a bit too far for me. You only get half the number of bits now and they're all stupid shapes/sizes. It takes a lot of the 'skill' out of it. Technic is awful now too, there's so few bits there's no challenge to it. That's why I liked it. The car and truck took all Christmas and boxing day to make.

The blue one with the working steering and piston engine? I had that one too.

When I was 6, I used to build absolutely ANYTHING I could out of the Star Wars universe. At one point, I had this whole Rebel Fleet set up, whilst later on I still have those Clone Trooper kits and a Gunship. I also used to build castles and destroy them within a day due to orc invasions, giant frog attacks etc. What I really miss are those Rock Raider sets. Those were Awesome

The blue one with the working steering and piston engine? I had that one too. Yup, the original Lego Go Kart! This was back in the day when Technic was straight rods, "T" connectors, and 1x strips with holes punched in the sides. The "fanciest" parts were the 90-degree gear and U-joint! Actual rack-and-pinion steering! Of course Lego has a new-style Kart coming out this year, but it's just not the same, with its juniorized engine and stuff. But my pride and joy was the Lego Car Chassis Having already gotten the engine set, the multi-speed transmission was the highlight for me, along with working suspension. So very, very awesome!

I can't seem to see any lego 'bricks' (as I remember them) on that thing anywhere.

if there's no bricks as far as I'm concered it's not lego, so I definatly wont be spending money on it!
This was/is my pride and joy. Working suspension, steering, engine, gears, opening boot and even pop up headlights! a cogs snaped right in the middle now though and i can't get to fix it, any idea where i can find instructions?

Uh... huh. You know I never really thought about this until now.
Typically I built whatever the instructions told me to, and just played with that. But when I got creative I would build with 2 different themes.
I would build entire space cities complete with spaceports and command centers. (Once I built just one giant spaceport, which included landing pads, airstrips for atmospheric craft, air defense batteries, hangars, a 3 foot tall air control tower, a barracks, and all the accompanying support vehicles, such as fuel and ordnance trucks. The entire thing covered one queen sized bed. If you're familiar with the typical square 'floors' that served as the footprint for most larger kits, it was roughly 15 of those) I would then build up two armies, with full spacefaring infantry contingents, armored support, and air/space ships. Then the armies would go to war for control of the city (which they usually decimated).
OR
I would build a nice, respectable sized castle (far bigger than the box set castles, but much smaller than some of the cooler, realistic castles I've seen done). Then I'd build a nice village to go along with the castle, with vendors hocking food, the rare magic good, and, more often, arms and armor (my little lego men were just stark raving MAD for their weaponry. Even the civillians). Then... I'd build an army to defend the castle! I'd usually have to clear out the King's Armoury to do so, but a legion of helmeted, spear toting warriors manning the battlements was very inspiring. I even had a troupe of Knights to fight for the Honor of the King!
Then, of course, I'd build an invading siege army. They'd have crude siege engines such as catapults (some that actually worked! Thank you Technix!) ballistae, and rams. They'd usually be armed ramshackle like (The left overs after I'd outfitted the more professional army of the king and pieces that didn't feel appropriate, like all the pirate sabres and axes I had) to be the 'marauding barbarians'. Of course the marauding barbarians would be slaughtered after a very gruesome, bloody siege, which decimates the countryside (and the poor villagers).
And roughly a decade later I play WHFB and 40k....
Wow. Talk about natural progression.

funny you should say that i also made lots of space ships and stuff but never made any oldy worldy stuff ... 20years later i play 40k but have never really gotten into fantasy ... still i'll try it again once Beast of Chaos finaly gets a working army.
