hey guys, i am planning to make killa kanz by maybe using toliet paper tube from ran-out toliet paper. According to the size of a kan from GW models, how big should the typical kan would be acceptale on tabletop? i don't really wish to make my kanz big as a Deffdread from GW. so please everyone give some advise.

If I knew, I'd tell you.

Don't use toilet roll tubing. Get hold of some plasticard tubing because it is much easier to work with (apparently) and things stick to it better. Toilet roll tubing is made of cardboard and glue deforms it slightly.

The oonivers vill burn!

i agree with jack, your better with plastic tubing (pvc works well)
the toilet roll tube is way too large and would also cause problems due to being made of cardboard.

I think upside down plastic cup works rather nicely.

Have a basic shape of a mini stompa / \ and its sturdy / can use plastic glue on it.
Killa kans are surprisingly small , cant really think of it as some sort of dred.

More of a terminator suit for grots o_o
well size comparison:

I used empty paint pots for my deffdreads. Personally, I think toilet roll cardboard would be WAY too big (and let's not forget, 40K is now a TRUE line of sight game!). large thimbles might be a better alternative, but it really comes down to what 'look' you're after.

K done, the legs are too large compared to the real size ratio ( trust me it fits nicely )

The photoshop isnt too good i still dunno how to do layers properly but you'll get the idea.
The main thing is, most people include the WHOLE sentinel leg, which is certainly not necceary.
Infact, cutting the top joint off makes it way more stompy.
Here it is lol

was waiting for this
luna, that looks pretty good, and the size will be 100% perfect.
i may have to give this a go since i need to grab a few sentinels anyway

failing that, if your going to buy sentinels you can just convert those
all its needs is weapons added and some orky details / damage.

The main reason i picked GW paint pot as the main body is because some day i want
to have a convo like this with GW staff:

GW: Wow thats a nice killa kan you have there!
Me: Its a trash kan
GW: I love how you used the old paint pots!
Me: I know, thats why its trash kan, old pots are trash. They all dried up and is absolute waste of money.

i love the idea
paint pots are just the right size for it, all that needs doing is to cover up the letters on the pot.
then add orky junk.

ill give it a go soon, and throw all credits your way for the idea

anyways, im off for a bit, time to cook something to eat.

Another brilliant idea by luna. I swear you can could save people ALOT of money ith those ideas lol.
OT
I made a couple scratch built dreds and using a toilet paper roll is by far to large. Its actually a little bigger then the dred body. I used plastic tubing. Worked great. So as far as using PVC goes I think in the case of a KAN itd be the way to go. They are small so that would make the kans even cheaper to build

I was a bit daunted by the cost of buying 9 kans as well. After looking at the blister I realized you can make about 3 from each blister of one If you have some PVC, plasticard and a few bits lying around. I currently have made 6 kans from 2 blisters.

Colonge bottle lids (or any small spray bottle etc) lipstick, anything with a cap) are a good place to find the round shape in about the right size around the house. (One of mine is a colonge bottle cap).

I can post pics later tonight if you want to see them.

@ J'Santai Khan: Kewl! I used the old sentinals legs as the basis for my deff dreds as well! They look great and have a kind of Boishock big daddy look to them.

Don't forget that when the sentinels come out that the legs are segmented. so no cutting them up.

These are my 'dreads. I'll get some picks of my cans up one of these days. Thanks everyone! I started monkeying around and just went a bit crazy with the 'look what I can do' thing.

Hey, I'm in the middle of building some killa kans myself. I'd love to see what you did with yours. Also, when enmitee says that a kan is 2 inches tall, is that the body alone, or the whole thing including legs? Also, what size base are they usually on?

Brilliant! Ive also wanted to know a good size for a kan. Paintpotsize! Excellent.

What base size do you give the kan? Same as a termie?

If anyone has a similairly good size comparison for a deffdredd that be appreciated. And base size for them too. Judging by LunaHounds photo up there the deff doesnt look all that much bigger than the kan...

Concerning TP rolls. The problem isnt size, its that their surface isnt as nice as plasticard. You can cut them up and roll them tighter to make them smaller if needed.

The base the deff dred and killakan are mounted on are the same size ( IG heavy weapon base )

Terminator size base = the middle 2 red and blue guys.
( yes the size are identical )

THX Luna! Ill have to get a couple of those then.

And going back to look at your photo I cant help getting that feeling you know. Looking at GWs deffdredd, dont you get that feeling to? To start gangsta rapping with its proppa gangsta rappa arm pose? In orc of course

First Kindereggs are awesome, when I use to visit Germany I would buy those things in boxes.

Second Kinder-kans are a fantastic idea *steals*

EDIT: Unfortunately it appears Kindereggs are illegal in the states as it contains non food items within food according to the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938. That does not explain the "Wonder Ball" we use to have though....hmm...also something about a choking hazard but there are warning labels all over those if I remember correctly.

I've just returned from a local hardware store and I bought 3/4" pvc connectors in the plumbing section. They're just about perfect for the body of a killa kan and they're only 15 cents each! As soon as I get my digital camera up and running I'll send some pictures.

Alright here's that adapter I was talking about. For 15 cents it's worth a try. I also bought a 2 dollar toy in the checkout Isle.

Add a toy gun from my attic and the bottle cap from the beer I was drinking and BAM, one terrible killa kan. I'll maybe post again when I get this sucker painted.

Also, sorry for the bad quality, my good camera went totally dead, so this is my phone.
