Why did I commit to assembling this? WHY!?!?! Lol I get it home, open the box, cried a little, and then read the oh-so-vague picture book style instructions. Haven't actually started work on it and I am already confused lol.

I have assembled two of them and had little problems. Don't bother reading the instructions for those things, they're worse than useless.

And the Stompa instructions are an all-time low, they actually seek to subvert your efforts. It's good that I had already planned to use the wrecking ball instead of the big-ass chainblade, because I couldn't figure out where half of those hydraulic lines were supposed to go.

Get a Soul Grinders and call them Defliers. I cannot stand putting them together and god I hate their little heads.

IMO, the Defiler model is best used as the basis for some kind of conversion.

Buy a second, and you can knock together a pretty decent-looking Brass Scorpion for Apoc.

Then you sir are a better man then I lol. Also attaching the body to the freaking chasis without Zip Kicker is nothing short of a herculean feat lol. He's a little leaned but I really don't care. Gives him character lol.

Never had any problems assembling my defiler. Only problem was painting it... I always seemed to find a spot I had forgotten to paint... damn all those legs ><

That thing is prob. easier to paint if you do the BASIC coloring first and then gluing it together finishing off with weathering, extra details etc. when it's put together...

Well it still has five terminators. Thats 50 bucks right there lol. Granted, they aren't customizable but the baisc ones should work since I am only using Combi Meltas with them.

I haven't made a defiler yet, but my next list has at least one, so thanks for the forewarning. The first vehicle model I ever made was a drop pod. Bad me. That was not a good model to start with, not at all. At least it hasn't fallen apart yet.

I hate the head on the Defiler as well. But I didn't have problems putting together anything from GW instructions either (Defiler or Stompa). But that may be because I am a visual learner.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Oh, be reasonable. Atleast all of the legs for the Defiler fit in the sockets properly, unlike the Soul Grinder. First, they decide to reuse the Defiler body and just provide two extra legs, despite the fact that the back legs don't fit properly into the front sockets, and then the model only has one option, sword or claw.

The Defiler is nice because you can mount a rod in the front to allow the torso to pivot naturally, and mount cross rods (or wires, really) from the "arm sockets" to allow the weapons to turn nicely.

AOBR termies are convertable to assault termies
Just slap some LC arms on them, and get some shoulders to put the TH/SS on the 5 that come with the box.

Nuclear: Properly pronounced new-clear, not new-cue-lir. There is no 'u' between the c and l, so stop saying it because it just makes you sound like a dumbass. This includes nucleolus, and all other derivatives of the word.

I really like the finished defiler model. It is really neat looking. There is still some stuff I haven't put on it yet (little bits of fluff) but it still looks great.

Maybe I'm just the odd one out, but not only do I like the model - I've never had any trouble putting it together. I think the instructions make perfect sense and are pretty simply to read. Maybe just time consuming because the kit is so large.

Nydhog, just be glad the defiler isn't the first vehicle you've ever assembled at that point. I think I put my first one together with a grand total of two hours of modeling experience at the time.

Well, there's your problem. Superglue is not the best option for plastic. Also using zipkicker (to accelerate superglue curing) on thin styrene parts does result in warping.

Use a decent plastic cement. Liquid is best, and use it sparingly. Ball joints are easy as (if you want them rigid). A little on both surfaces. Press together and hold 30 seconds. Done.

No way.

Testors gel wins hands down. It is a more aggressive and stronger glue, which works better for models that will be handled / knocked over / dropped.

Liquid is better for scale modeling, where you don't have any load on the joints.

I hate the Carnifex.
I couldn't get the legs to fit in the sockets without them falling out. When I eventually gave up and it dryed, Iwas left with one leg half in the socket one completely out, glue everywhere, and a massive battle in the next ten minutes where every model had to be painted, and my mate wanted the Carnifex

I've never had any problems putting them together, only problems with my first one not STAYING together(it takes any opportunity to fall apart, so I rarely use it favoring its brothers instead if not playing Apoc). This is the one I bought a week before it was available in England thanks to a very cool Manager at a London GW store while I was on vacation there(my plane was leaving the morning of their Vets night when the usually do pre-release sales). And no, I don't remember what store or which manager.

I've been using my GW Plastic Glue on it. I also have the Citadel Glue for metal models.

I don't see anything herculean about holding 2 pieces of plastic aligned and motionless for a couple minutes while aplying slowly increasing force perpendicular to the surface that's being glued. It just takes patience.

I've also not had any problems assembling a GW model.

Some have needed ALL my little tricks* knowledge, but ALL have gone together (and ALL of the plastics were done using only liquid poly. I gave up using the gel form at the age of 10. All are still together, too.)

*Not used ANY GW glue product, either. Sub-standard and super-priced - and I have a good model shop a block and a half from the nearest GW store where I can get good stuff.

*The assembly guide for SM vehicles in a recent WD being an example. They suggest rubber bands for holding things together while the glue sets. I've been doing this for OVER 25 years (same with pegs and other clamps).
