Not sure if anyone else has brought this up, so I thought I'd raise it.

Bought the Imperial Strongpoint the other day, and set to building it. Got to the Lascannons for the Bastions, only to find both sprues had an identical problem, namely on one of the supports for the Lascannons is miscast, in so far as the socket for the plug just isn't there. Stabbed it a few times with my sculpting tool to see if it was just a thin skin of excess plastic, but nope. Totally solid.

Ended up chopping the plug off the offending side. Lascannon still pivots though.

Interestingly, the injection point for the frame rather than having a rounded entry, has a messy one which looks more like a mountain for Might Empires (might salvage it actually!)

Mentioned it to my local manager at the Hydra Gaming Club (Robin Hood Pub, Tunbridge Wells, every Wednesday from 7p.m. Join us for Bolters, Booze, Bitz and Banter!) and he agreed that it could be a dodgy mould, rather than excess plastic being forced in.

So yeah, totally minor problem solved in about 2 seconds with a decent pair of clippers, but annoying all the same. Other than that, the kits have been sweet!

Quick Q:

The Bastion apparently comes with a part that's only used when merging Bastions together to make bigger Bastions. How does that work?

Erm. I dunno. Merged two together to make the one seen in the book, and didn't use anything special?

There are two planky type things which I've always used to glue the floor sections together? Perhaps thats it.

Have to say though, they are well made kits. Building the double tiered with porch one was a cinch, and required no hack to arrange it!

Cool. I've got 8 Bastions on the way and I'm just trying to think of cool ways to put them together.

Those extra parts fill in the notches that fit around the pins that hold the top armor bits or for making it taller.
you have the square floor it has the notches on the outside edges they fill them in for expanding the floor.

Edit cause it sounded stupid

Have you tried GW customer service to complain? There is a good chance that they will send you two whole new kits to replace the miscast parts?

3 wide and 2 high? You'd need 4 kits for that, not 7.

The lascannons that came in the Black Box for my store also had this problem, quickly sorted with a craft knife, and a drill . . . funny thing is a letter was sent out saying that in the mold the recess was to shallow, so we sent a letter back saying it was so shallow that it was another pin . . . made us laugh =p

I'm pretty sure it's 7 I need. Each kit comes with 4 wall sections (2 with fire slots, 2 without) and I need 12 for each level (3 on each side) meaning a total of 24. Plus a complete Bastion or so to sit on the top.

Might wind up with enough bits left over to make some bunkers for regular games as well. Which is nice.

Hold on, 3X3, or 3X1? And what do you mean by 'fire slots'. There are heavy bolders on every side.

Two tiles have small slits besides the heavy bolter part.

Sounds like 3x3.
The wall sections are of 2 styles, one with arrow-slits at the side of the bolter-ports. Also, a slightly different damage pattern.
I didn't notice till mine was built!

Don't think it matters that much. The fire points are at the bottom so really doesn't matter where the 'slots' are in the main structure of the tower.

Anyway, we have very few Planet Strike batreps in the BatRep forum and virtually no modelling threads. What gives? Am I one of the few people here who gives a damn about PS?

I looooooove Planetstike! It's actually getting me back into 40k. Last time I played was with an army designed for 3rd Edition using Cities of Death when that first came out!

And project pics will be on offer (I hope) once I have scrounged up the money. Looking at a pretty hefty price tag. Slightly inebriated right now, but 7 x 18 = 126. I can do that in a week, but it means no beer or tabs that week, which simply isn't cricket.

Plus Thom and I are meant to be bringing the sexy to Renewal at the end of August, so it might be a while! Should look pretty good by the time I'm done. I fancy lots of honour and kill banners dangling from it. After all, nothing says 'no chance, tosser' to an invading army like the defences having a competition for the number of previous invaders killed!

I love Planet strike too. The games go so much freaking quicker cuz all your forces are right there. My Plague Tower is pulling double duty as a bastion now.

We wuv our Bastion, oh yes we do! Maybe when I'm back from my grand mother's cremation I'll start up a bastion show off thread in the usual sub forum.

That sounds awesome.

Not the cremation part, the bastion party.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother though.

If you're interested in Bastion conversions, I recently completed one and posted a how-to article on BoLS. My conversion is similar to the one on page 24 of the Planetstrike book, where a tall Bastion is paired with a short one and a customized door is created to provide access from one section to the other.

I did something similar, save that I made the left section only one bastion high, not two. Looks cool.

Also, the bastion sections fit decently well with the City terrain too. I've seen at least one interesting conversion so far with it. These bastions are almost too modular, you can do so much with them, it boggles the mind.

After building that, you had two walls left, right? And by 'walls' I mean two of the walls that go around the bastion's base, the ones that would be there had you not joined them together.

So if I was to build, say, two of the above bastions, I would have four walls left over. And then all I'd need is the roof sprue GW sell and I'd be able to make a tower-less bunker, correct?
