gamesworkshop wrote:It's been over a year since we launched the new games-workshop.com site in the US. Since then we have been adding new versions for the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Eire, Denmark, Australia and Canada.

With one website, we can now add new content and features in five languages at the same time - you can already see the results with What's New Today, Astronomican and The Best of White Dwarf archive all launched in the last few weeks. And this is only the start...

Through the last year, we've had a lot of support and feedback from hobbyists around the world so we thought August would be a good time to have a bit of a celebration of the new games-workshop.com, so we're having not one, but two prize draws for registered customers of games-workshop.com

Hobby Centre Competition

A Battleforce or Battallion to be won in every Hobby Centre
At the end of August, we're going to be doing a prize draw for every Hobby Centre from all the registered customers who put that Hobby Centre down as "My Store". The winning customer for each Hobby Centre (now with over 360 worldwide), will be able to choose a Battleforce of Battalion of their choice on their next visit. Terms and Conditions apply.

Global Competition

Three Global MEGAPRIZES
We're also giving away three of the biggest prizes from Games Workshop ever in a global prize draw from all games-workshop.com registered customers`;

1st prize: A trip for two to visit Games Workshop HQ, The Studio and Wahammer World, including flights, train fares and hotel accommodation.

2nd prize: Every new product that Games Workshop releases for the next twelve months

3rd prize: A 5,000 point (game legal) Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 army of your choice.

As with the other prize draw, Terms and Conditions apply.

How do you qualify for these prize draws? Simply register on games-workshop.com. If you're already registered, you're already in the prize draw. We'll close both prize draws at the end of August and notify the winners in September by email.

But the question is what army list can you think of that you would run if you won?
5000 points, no more and no less and it has to obey FOC rules.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

JD21290, the assembly time would be punishment enough.

I'd LOVE to see that on a 4x6 table, though. Maneuver would not exist.

Me, I'd take IG. I assume they pick your force. If not, I'm talking about a full mechanized army, or possibly an all-Valkyrie force.

Maybe if you stall long enough, you could get Space Puppies...

I'd probably pick orks or vampire counts. But I'd actually never ever finish building them, so maybe space wolves.

I'm thinking a stompa heavy ork force would be cool. I'd love to buy a few stompas and run a mob of them but nobody around here plays apocalypse.

I might go Guard, getting nothing but Catachan Command squads as troops. That way I'd actually have some good sculpts in my army! Them, Ogryns, Valkyries and Demolishers.

Alternately, stall out for Space Wolves.

If whoever wins that contest chooses 5000 points of Dark Eldar I will be sorely disappointed. You can have so many models; why do they have to be terrible ones?

If they are including FW stuff into the mix then forget about stompas; I'm going for a squad of warhounds.

It wont include FW stuff... that'd be silly of them, although great for us.

I'll take some footslogging orcs, please.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

Don't see why it wouldn't be - he had allocated points for a single HQ before figuring up how many goblins the remaining points could pay for, and since there isn't an upper limit on Core units in WFB, it looks completely legit (and a pain to assemble) to me! Save yourself a little trouble with assembly if you specifically requested the Skull Pass ones I suppose...

FW stuff is not included in the second prize.

The third prize says nothing about it, other than the army MUST be codex legal and adhere to the standard 40k/fantasy rules.

That third prize is evil!

Since the winner will be so interested in getting a huge amount of models he will fall right into GW's trap!

They will have to buy PAINT for em! and at that instant paint will be double the price!

Does that mean you have to follow the force organization chart? If so you would never make a 5,000 point army let alone 3,000.Unless you use tons of orks or kroot( 19 men 1 shap 12 hounds and 3 gorilas). Not like i'm ever goin to win.

in the SM codex (and indeed most codices) you get 2 HQ, 6 Troops, 3 Elite, 3 Fast attack and 3 Heavy support in the FOC.
Im quite sure that can stretch to 5000 points with lots of juicy upgrades and wargear

You forget who is awarding the prize

As far as I'm concerned, however, the old adage, "don't shoot a gift horse in the mouth" applies. I'd be more than happy to win any of these three prizes - I'd be happy if they picked which army they'd give me, I'd be happy if they gave me a 1k army of their choosing... it's a gift - it's not costing anything, it should be received with gratitude and in the spirit in which it is given. (They don't have to be doing this...)

Hehe - speaking of prizes and such, back in the day, 1991, I believe, when I was a poor starving college student, a friend of mine and I took a trip to Guitar Center. They had some contest going on, put your name on a card, put it in a box, they'd draw for something eventually... My friend filled out a bunch of cards. I put one in, and promptly forgot all about it. A few months later, we got a call (in the old-days when we had a pay phone, no one had a cell...), and I get called down to the phone box - it's guitar center, telling me that I've won a guitar signed by Roger McGuin. (WHO? I dunno, I was a metal-head, I didn't know any Roger McGuin back then). Well, it's a 45 minute trip back there, so I'm figuring one of my friends is pulling a prank, but they assure me that it's for real - and I go and get it. And, in spite of the fact that I didn't know who Roger McGuin was, I gladly accepted the prize, because, hey, it was an actual Fender strat, not some no-name pawnshop guitar like I had been playing. I played it so much, I played the signature right off... - and I've still got it, 18 years later. So that's my story about prizes.

Fine then. 5000 points of Guard, as you can put more into that than any other list. I'd then sell the Guard, and buy an Ork army.

Win/Win.
