I'm new to table-top miniatures. Real new. I don't know how or why it happened... but recently something started to draw me to Space Marines. I started to spend more and more of my free time looking at photos on-line of painted miniatures. Then my searches started getting more specific; Plague Marines. I'm hooked now. I dream of colour schemes and of painting squads. My ambitions are pretty modest at the moment, but if you'll indulge me, I'll share as I go.

here are a couple of my first attempts at Plague Marine conversions.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone.

I chose to go with the coffin shield guns 'cause I wanted something iconic that says "decay" without it being a big bloated belly, (not that there's anything wrong with that). The last thing I want is an out-of-the-box, bog-standard looking nurgle army, when there are sooo many fun conversion option there. My army isn't flashy (not a lot of spikes or big banners), but I wanted some of my own iconography; so I'm going with cencer balls & coffin lids mostly. I'm going to use some zombie/ skeleton bits too.

The coffin lids have raised a few eyebrows, but I'm confident once people see some more of them scattered throughout my army, painted & in context... they'll come around.

Welcome to Dakka!!!!!

I really like your idea for a slightly different looking Nurgle army. I like the coffin lids too. Puts me in mind of a corrupt company champion. Very cool, look forward to seeing pics of them painted.

Here's a crappy picture of a WIP plague marine made mostly of bits from the berserker box I got today. One of the arms is from a chappy & the bone leg is, of course, from the skeleton warriors box.

I pinned the bone-hip and the chappy shoulder; my first attempt at pinning. I also weighted the base.

Welcome to Dakka, I particularly like the robed PMs,very nice star.
Have you considered incorperation a bit of GS in to your work? a few boils and pustules would go a long way in making your PMs that much more disgusting.
Once again nice work so far.

Welcome to Dakka, mate!

As for the models, I like 'em! I like the coffin shield touch. But to avoid making them look just like fallen DA you're going to have to be a bit clever with the paint scheme.

Agreed. And that's complicated by the fact that I want to use green. Hopefully few chaos backpacks, gribbly looking power weapons & some boney limbs will help the effect. I haven't dipped into my GS yet, I'm still a little nervous about messing my models up with that stuff.

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody!!!

I can understand your hesitance to use GS,it does take a bit of trial and error to learn how to apply it,however I belive there are some tutorials here on Dakka concerning the use and aplication of GS,as well as one directly related to Plauge Marines on the GW site.
Also, you can always use a "test model" or even a spare piece of plasticard and practice making pustules and such until you get the hang of it.

I pretty much stay away GS since the night of that 'incident'. As for the green, I would advise it to be a bit more 'skechy' and less uniformly dark green like DA.

I think that your Nurgle army will look amazing. I love the Application of the Robes and the Shields. I could see the death Guard doing something like that, I mean they can wield a Bolter in one hand with extreme accuracy.

The chainsword hand broke off my chappy yesterday. I would have been pissed off, but I knew it wasn't pinned, and that breakage was a risk (just didn't realize how fragile it would be). The chainsword hand he he used to have was a little messy from some sloppy gluing.... so I think I'm going to pin-on one of the berserker chainswords instead. Lesson learned!

I've also included a pic of this other Plague Marine I'm working on... just 'cause I'm having alot of fun putting him together.

Is it okay that I'm updating this post? Should I start a new thread in a different sub-forum?

Well IMOP I think it is fine, but for some of the more sticklers to the rules and to appease some of the [MODS] and what not you could make a sub thread in the P&M Blog section and just post a connection link to from this thread and ask a mod to lock it down so no more posts happen.

Now to comment on the new pics loaded, I Like the exposed ribcage here. The other thing, a Chaplain, in a nurgle army... that is an oddity I have not seen. I am not complaining because hell why not lol. I am eager to see how he turns out.

Well, I'm not using him as a Chaplain or anything, he's just gonna count as another Plague Marine. But thanks for the compliment! I'm trying to make my army look a little different.

Well I am a fan of the "Different" or the "Unique". Hopefully on the 24th I will have the money to start my DIY Chaos Legion Apostate Rage. I started a little P&M Blog that has yet to be up dated much because I lack the supplies right now to start it, but Khorne with out the Iconography and the "BunnyEars" will be the gist of the main force.

I hope to see more work from your nurgle army though. I like how they are looking so far, Nurgle Death Guard, became my second Army to ever make. I might post some Pics of them if I can get Batteries for my Camera, show you my paining. I went with the more Pallid-Green, with a Boltgun Metal Trim.
