With the latest news from GD Italy we hear that the DE are not coming out until till late 2010 at the soonest.

As you might guess this does not exactly break my heart.

But before we have the traditional arguments about the merits of DE vs Squats or Lost and Damned or Chaos Legions or even the Pan Fo I want to toss out a new idea.

Let Forgeworld have them!

With the Death Corps, Estonian Drop Troops and the Chaos Renegades FW has shown they can do a whole army with infantry and vehicles. They've shown that these niche armies can sell when given the royal treatment.

So why not rebuild the DE base with some FW DE models, throw them into the next IA book and see what happens. Surely that would be better than constantly promising them and then yanking them away.

And it would let GW focus on L&D which are 28x cooler anyway...

They're not getting dropped, stop wasting your time and learn to deal with it or at least ignore the DE discussions

I'm just waiting for the Dark Eldar to come out and I have $200 - $300 saved up with more getting added every quarter or so to spend once these guys hit the shelves.

I would certainly buy Dark Eldar FW products.

Except that with FW, you'd probably spend all $300 before you had a full army .

There could be a split between the two.

Have a plastic kit come out for the warriors, the wyches, and maybe the lord or the talos. Keep the rest of the models how they are, but let Forgeworld redo whatever still needs to be done.

Do you have any idea how brittle the Dark Eldar spikes would be, considering how brittle DKoK bayonets are? All joking aside, I say go for it. If Dark Eldar got squatted tomorrow I wouldn't shed a tear. This way GW could appeal to the hardcore Dark Eldar players by giving them Imperial Armour rules and nice new models. Forgeworld is aimed at the hardcore playerbase anyway, so it only seems appropriate. Also, GW could focus on other cool stuff while FW does their thing. You could bet that the models would be real nice too.

Old joke. When the drop troops first came out in WD I made an army using Warzone and old Grenedier plastics. They were of course the Estonian Drop Troops.

Later they became Canadian Stock Troopers.

But their hover crafts do look sick. The Jabba barges are cool.

If FW is taking over the Chaos Dwarves for WFB, they can take over Dark Eldar for 40k.

It's better than Squatting them.

Doesn't seem like quite the same thing. I'd rather see them turned over than dropped but I bet it'd eventually mean the same thing.

Probably because they wouldn't sell. From the way GW has handled DE it seems like they were a flat-out flop...the more business-minded and financial oriented staff they have are probably holding back the creative department.

I'd rather see more FW IG regiments since they're all so damn good and imo thats where they excel at especially the DKOK.

That sounds like a brilliant idea. A new warrior kit and vehicles at least, and maybe some super-heavies for existing players.

Then if they sell GW know whether or not there is a fanbase big enough to make a re-do worhtwhile.

The only drawback is that we've been promised a "ground up" re-think of the DE. Nothing is sacred, not aesthetics, fluff, even units. GW proper probably don't want to put FW in charge of designing the new direction for the DE.

FW would take 9 years to make all the models.. and it would cost 100$ a unit

and their chaos renegades are beautiful models I saw some on person the other day.

However, DE will certainly not bring big sales to FW.

Because FW cast quality would drive the army from a rare one to an extinct one.

Had they been designed by Jes (Hallowed be his name) Goodwin to start with, they would not have been an also-ran army. Many people would be playing them. As it is, the third rate sculpts make them an army more hideous to mine eyes than any of the skull-and-spike bedecked other armies.

Well, the Death Corps of Krieg is only available from FW.
This army is really expensive.
Thus, DE given to FW would become very expensive too.

Why not get some green Stuff and have a go at sculpting your own DE? It'll be cheeper than Forge World and quicker than GW

During the 40k 'ard boyz this year one of the guys there was a good friend of the sculptor of the DE range and got real mad when I said the models were trash..

I didnt know what to say to him if he really thought the models were good

Spoiler Alert: Dark Eldar are already dead; we've just been living with the poorly re-animated remains these last few years, like that Buffy episode where Dawn tries to bring her mom back.

Makes sense to me, although DE could use a fluff revamp. Maybe put Cammorah into the Warp Lanes or something. Noone knows where they come from, basically.

The models for DE ARE trash, but the new look looks great. (from the rule book).

Rules are always terrible the only reason guard sell is cause they look snazzy and you can use them for regular guard..

Nutters will always buy titans, but whos gonna a whole army that cant be played out of a friendly environment..

But KK hates DE like I hate auditors; I mean inquisitors.. So he'd be happy, I say let DE survive on their old codex til they get a new one.

yes, why DONT they give the ][ armies to Forge World. You know what GW should do, they should stop fething around with DE and publish decent rules for ][ and Renegade Guard, although they have been getting closer to quality rules for Renegade Guard.

I think this is a terrible idea. Yes FW makes some very pretty minis, but to play DE youd have to fork out about 2x the cash. It makes sense with the IG and the chaos stuff they do, as you dont HAVE to buy those. But to play DE you WOULD.
Seriously Kid, your as well known for hating the DE as I am for loving Orks, you need to just get over the fact that they arnt going anywhere. (and very slowly I might add lol)
