Got this yesterday (and conveniently had a day off today). Pure gold.
Think first-person Diablo set in the Post Apocalytia of Mad Max or Dark Sun or Dark Age. Has a cell-shaded Brom-like look to the whole game.
4 Player online co-op or 2 player splitscreen. You have 4 classes (Soldier, Sniper, Stealth or Berserker) to choose from, but you don't HAVE to all be a different class. Lots of skill tree based leveling and a really cool game play that goes from vehicle to stealth to shooter!
Think Fallout 3 but you can play with your friends.
So far (about Lvl 22/50) I'm giving it 4/5.

Ew. It's cell-shaded?
Screw that noise.
And agreed with Platuan. I miss Hellgate. Airstriking demons, followed by high powered sniper cannon shots was...well, amazing.

i like it too.
the only thing that i hate is being forced to watch the damn bus video 80 times in the beginning... ugh!
im also noticing a trend on weapons. they say a bajillion guns but so far ive seen like 4 different skins with 10 different colors. not too terrible i suppose but i hope it picks up a bit... im only lvl 5

The cell shading isn't bad. I normally am not a fan, but after a while you really don't notice it that much.
It feels a lot like a standard MMO during play. Go here, get quest, do quest, go back and get reward.
It is pretty funny too. The dialogue is hilarious.

maybe one of you that have played it can help me with this but i ran into what looks like a major bug.
my son and i play together and hit level 5. i sent him to bed and decided to play solo a bit. naturally i got ahead on some missions.
the problem that i had was when we started playing coop together again he could no longer turn in any of his completed quests.
it was a pain in the butt... i had to log off and get him caught up to where i was. thankfully i wasnt too far ahead.

Co- op etiquette gone wrong! Can you roll a second character to play through on your own when you want to or are you restricted?

Is it just me or is seeing Borderlands advertised almost everywhere kind of off-putting? Ever since that Kane & Lynch incident (or whatever it was called) involving Gamespot and their advertisers.. I don't trust anywhere anymore. Luckily I've made this tin foil hat...

I played it up to the first mini-boss and loved it. Not too involved, not too demanding, but great fun and the loot system keeps it interesting. It really feels like a first person shooter incarnation of Diablo.

I just can't tell if I'm going to absolutely love this game or absolutely hate it.
I love the look of it and I love post-apocalyptic games, but after reading reviews there seems to be so many weird negatives to it.
The fact that if you do play co-op, the enemies don't balance out based on the average experience of your group means that you're either stuck with your lower level friends getting whacked by the enemies or your higher level friends getting bored running around fighting low level stuff.
Basically it sounds like you kind of have to find a group and stick with them together to really play it co-op in a good way.
Since I tend to play when others aren't online, I know I'll end up mostly playing this game alone and I can't tell if it will still be a rewarding experience on my own.
Although I do always get caught up with grinding in RPGs to make my character god-like, and it sounds like this game is totally all about that. . .so maybe I would like it?
I dunno. I need gamefly.
Why is there no demo for this game on Xbox Live?

another annoying bug...
the damn voice audio tends to overlap.
talk to an NPC and get his audio going and then do something that would trigger him to say something else like complete a quest and both audio tracks will run. kind of crappy.
still a fun game and is it just me or is there more music in one player mode?

Well, you don't play this sort of game for the story. It just isn't that type of experience. As far as weapons go, they certainly have a much better feel to them then the silly nerf-style pop-guns of Halo. Rockets are supposedly too slow to be of any use but I hadn't gotten that far.

Beat it with my roommate in 22 hours. Finished at level 36. Did a second playthrough to hit 50.
Things I liked:
-The enemies
-The emphasis on loot and the unimportance of money.
-Art direction
-Voice acting
Things I didn't like (really just annoyances in a good game):
-Gold equipment is outclassed by blue or purple.
-The poor story and the lame ending.
-The tacked on feeling of the Eridian weapons.
-Lack of interesting pvp.
-Brick is noticeably weaker than the other characters once you reach Old Haven.

Much of it may have to do with whether you can find a powerful weapon that compliments you, while being careful not to pick fights with things that are too high a level over you.
