Here's the problem I have:
I have recently acquired an x-box [for what I thought was going to compliment my PS3, Wii and PC's], the standard controllers use batteries, im ok with that, annoying but ok. They make you pay to use their online service, ok [but the PC's free? god bless consumerism], $90 AUD a year. They have little other function. So I though hell, cant be too bad, there is heaps of people on them.
Here is my dilemma:
-You pay $150 for a WiFi adaptor
-You pay to go online, most of the people I have run into are down right freaky and whinny
-You graphics arnt all that good, [not that it worries me but still a noticeable thing]
-I have bought now 3 rechargeable packs and 2 battery packs, and 2 controllers, all have had a problem of some description [grrrrr!]
-The games are roughly the same.
Im sick of x-box right now, I dont want to pay to use the online service and still be expected to buy stuff off the online store, everybody else has the decency to make playing online free [Wii, PS3, PC], and what do I get for money, whinny kids and nothing special. This Halo fad everyone seems to think is be all, end all, just bought Halo 3, the campain is stiff and not much fun but the online is choppy and has few and far between fun games. For everyone who thinks its cheaper look again, your Wii and Your PS3 are mucher in comparison, for being able to play online for free or surf the web or HD movies [PS3 and PC], they have inbuilt WiFi so you don't have to pay a stupid amount for it, and you can easily upgrade your HD to something alot bigger like 1T, or 500GB [PS3].
Anyone else sick of Microsoft? the PC is fine, but the x-box is just GRRRR!!!!

I was sick of X-box about a month after the first one came out, and never owned one myself.
At least the controllers are a reasonable size, now, though.

Considering the Xbox 360 has the best GPU out of all 3 home consoles, I don't think it's graphics are an issue.
Also yes, paying for online is a sticking point for some people but they're trying to make it more worthwhile by offering things like Twitter, Facebook, Sky and Netflix. That said, I haven't renewed my Live subscription since there's nothing I want to play online on it right now.

paying for a video game console is just stupid, IMO.
I can't dedicate THAT much of my time to playing the thing, and I need a decently powerful computer for school anyway, so I might as well just play whatever video games I want on the PC.

Even if that were true [only the lastest models of x-box have a strong GPU], compare any game against Killzone 2 on HD or any other game for that matter on PS3 to x-box even COD4, PS3 wins out. As a training photographer and graphics art, its most apparent.

You can access twitter, myspace, facebook, dakka, youtube, or any other website on both the PS3, Wii and PC at NO cost to the user. PS3 dont charge for online use however they introduced Vid-zone, Play TV and are expanding with others, at no charge. X-box is behind the times.

Just check Lens of Truth for a proper comparison. Ghostbusters, for example, was developed for the PS3 and then ported to Xbox 360 (which is generally not the case) and it looks much, much worse.

Yes, the PS3 has web access unlike the 360 which is a shame. That said, Facebook and Twitter's UI aren't designed for use on home consoles unlike the 360 applications that are being designed just for that purpose.
But to say it's behind the times?
Look at how you can install your games completely on the hard drive and the Games on Demand feature. When are we going to see that on the PS3?

With installing games onto the hard drive, thats great, still need the disc, all it does is stop it from spinning, and fills up the very small HDD on your x-box, dont want it for the PS3, just taking up space.
Not designed for the console you say? The mobile websites "m.myspace.com" etc works perfectly on the consoles, dont see anything wrong with it.
Im not saying that PS3 is better, I just used it as the closest comparison, but im saying that PC is 1000x better and the other consoles are better compared to it.
I mean from a company who dont not charge to use the internet to play on a PC why do we need to pay to use it on an x-box? plus the expensive hidden costs is misleading in my opinion, "x-box is cheaper than a PS3 & Wii[?]" but to make it up to par with them on WiFi or online play, batteries for controllers, nope.

You can fit around 20 games on the Elite. Surely you won't be playing that many games too regularly?
Besides, it's not about the disc spinning (although it does remove wear on the drive obviously). It also means much faster loading times which the PS3 could do with!

I didn't mention MySpace but mobile sites probably do work OK. My point was it's a way of adding value to a Live subscription and will likely provide a better experience.

My favourite and most played game is a PC game so I don't need "converted".
Still, I think in terms of home consoles the Xbox 360 provides the best experience.

I find nothing wrong with the loading time on my PS3, I actually find it faster. A mate has Rf:G on 360 and I have it on PS3, PS3 won on load time across the board.

Whats wrong with my PC? Better? your using a gaming console to type a sentence on what you are doind instead of actually doing it. I find it redundant on a console.

I disagree, IMHO,
1. PS3 - HD blue ray, dvd, Play TV, strong library of games for anyone, strong online community, music, link up to computer, inbuilt WiFi
2. Wii - just fun and can web surf
3. 360 - just games and movies

"Strong library of games for anyone"?
Wow. You're full of it. There's like five games, max, worth playing on the PS3 that are PS3 exclusives.
Uncharted(1+2), Metal Gear Solid 4, inFamous, Killzone 2 and the Resistance games.
That's it. The rest of the games are available on the 360 also.

And you do realize that outside of those FPS games, there are really NONE that are PS3 exclusives?
RPG--Fable 2? 360 Exclusive. Mass Effect? PC/360 Exclusive. Oblivion? Multiplatform(360, PS3, PC). Fallout 3? Same deal, with 360 getting first dibs on DLC.
Driving--can't comment, don't care enough to research.
Music games--same as driving; but there's really no "exclusives" beyond tracks, which end up getting released later anyways.
Your move.

So you mentioned the games library, which is pretty much nonexistent in terms of general pull(why buy a PS3 for RPGs, when all the good ones are on 360/PC) and don't list any games?
That's silly.
Sidenote: I'm speaking from the perspective of owning both a PS3/360. My 360 has lasted me since it was first released. I've had it, no joke, since day one. It is finally on its last leg, and Microsoft gave me a $100 voucher towards a Modern Warfare 2 console, the one with the 250gb.
By the way, that $100 voucher? Is in addition to buying BACK my old 360 to refurbish and resell.
My PS3, however, has gone on the fritz twice and had to be brought back the first day due to issues. It's also not really fun having to leave it on all night to update one game, and that's running a ridiculous connection.

This is fun
US Microsoft may have been nice to you, but in the land of oz here, the opposite is occuring.
My x-box has had red ring of death 3 times, same console they have failed to fix it 2 twice, thats just sad, no sorry, no refund of repair, just here it should work this time. My PS3 had a blue-ray problem, called SCEA [Sony Computer Entertainment Australia] told them, they charged me nothing [it was out of warranty by a year] and came with $20 AUD in my PS3 wallet, only took them 1 week to fix. And I dont need to buy a new PS3 as they tell you that you can just take out the 2.4" HDD and replace it with a bigger one [like 1T or 500GB]. I dont want to constantly have to buy new x-boxs just to have move space, just plain stupid.
About the games, PC is NOT x-box for the purpose of this argument, and what people think is good or bad is not up for you to decide.

Okay. Dude.
Once again. My point wasn't that MS has been nice to you. Customer service varies, and more than likely--you're doing it wrong. You can't stand it up, etc.
But you haven't addressed the games library issue. Which is one of the PS3 "selling points" you had listed.

Bah Humbug! I ditched my X-Box years ago. I bought one when they first came out and re-discovered why I hate console games with the bright burning passion of a thousand exploding stars. I sold it after about three months. fething fiddly two-dozen-buttons torture device. It single-handedly drove me back to 40K after an extended 3rd edition hatefest. Kanluwen wrote:But you haven't addressed the games library issue. Which is one of the PS3 "selling points" you had listed.
According to this list of all released and known future releases for PS3, there are currently 159 PS3 Exclusive games. I only spot counted 110, but I doubt that my count's accurate. Total Library Count: 557 games.
According to this similar list for 360, there are currently only 117 360 Exclusive games. Total Library Count: 720 Games.
Note that for both, I'm not counting console exclusives(games which have PC and/or Arcade versions, but which are available only for 1 console[74 for 360, 9 for PS3] system), Xbox/PSOne Originals(not on the lists), or XBox Live/PSN download games(not on the lists).
So, stating that the PS3 has fewer exclusives than 360 is technically incorrect, unless you're counting console Exclusives. However, 360 does have a larger library, with 163 more games than PS3.

I wouldn't count the Japanese releases, to be frank. They kinda skew the exclusives bit.
I mean sure, they exist. But do you really want to have to IMPORT your games?
That's the biggest issue I see with that list, Platuan. There's a ton of Japanese releases with no European/North American release dates--and they're all exclusives.

You say that like there aren't any Japanese Dakka Users. Just because YOU aren't going to Import/play them doesn't mean they don't exist. I'm dealing in pure, un-biased facts.

Well then, let me be more specific:
DISCOUNTING one country only releases:
The 360 has a larger library.
And how many people do YOU know who import?
And you do realize the 360 is actually doing well in Japan, which is actually a real big sign as to how bad Sony screwed up?

From a personal standpoint:
- I have no problem with paying £40/yr for Xbox Live
- my understanding was that the Xbox and the PS3 had pretty similar graphics capabilities
- The only game that interested me on the PS3 was MGS4, and I watched that on youtube
- re: whiny players, I just disable voice and shoot the fethers myself
- my console came with a controller and recharge kit, and I've had no problems with either - or the extra wired controller I bought.
- I hear many, many good reports about microsoft's customer service. Perhaps they just don't like Australia?
Of course one console isn't going to be for everyone, but I think a few bad experiences may have skewed your opinion somewhat.

Personally the x-box doesnt match the PS3 [matches the Wii though]. However my real problem is there way of for every last cent on a console but on the computer they are so good. Its double standards and consumerism in its pure form.

By being dismissive of Japanese/import games, you only hurt your credibility by appearing as if you're marginalizing an enormous part of both system's markets. This discussion isn't just about YOU and YOUR country, it's about the systems in comparison as wholes, which, SURPRISE!, includes markets you're not a part of.

I have no problem with paying £40 *A YEAR* to give me unlimited online Gaming for that period, which throws in a ton of fantastic funcionality for Online - Parties, the In-game Dash, and just the efficiency of the Online.
Xbox 360 graphics are not *that* far behind *most* of what the PS3 has to offer. If you use an HDMI Cable it's more than satisfactory. The PS3 has insultingly not yet tapped all that it has to offer, but some titles such as MGS4 and Uncharted 2 do really shine out. In the same breath the Xbox 360 has fantastic, playable, and *FUN* titles such as Halo 3, Gears of War 1/2, Fable II, and others I'm not bothered to List.
In terms of the multitude of good gaming Games available, the 360 wins by a country mile.
I am *NOT* a Microsoft Fanboy. I've had 4 different 360's because of the RRoD problem, 3 were within 6 months after the console came out (e.g. first batch) and so I accept that the system would have had some failings, and still does. However, each of these times I've got an apology from Microsoft, and after the breakdown it's been (at most) 3 weeks since I got the console back. Pretty snappy for a package trip to Frankfurt, if you ask me.
I now have an Xbox 360 Elite, perfectly happy with it. It suits me fine. I'm a happy consumer, but I recognise the faults in the system and in the games - deal with it.
If you don't like the 360, by all means issue a letter of complaint to Microsoft, whereby you can eBay your confounded system and games and deal with it.

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

I find nothing wrong with the loading time on my PS3, I actually find it faster. A mate has Rf:G on 360 and I have it on PS3, PS3 won on load time across the board.
I know you're kidding now. The load times are horrendous.
I disagree, IMHO,
1. PS3 - HD blue ray, dvd, Play TV, strong library of games for anyone, strong online community, music, link up to computer, inbuilt WiFi
2. Wii - just fun and can web surf
3. 360 - just games and movies
Why didn't you list DVD, game library, online community, music and computer link for the Xbox as well? Also what about games on demand, cross-game voice chat, streaming music during the game, hard drive installation, Xbox Live Arcade, Xbox Indie games etc.?
Also, I thought you found the web browser redundant but yet it's a feature for the Wii?
And yes, this is fun.

The 360 has a larger library.
Why don't you try actually reading my post.
Even WITH Japanese only games, the 360 LIBRARY is larger by 163 games than the PS3 library.
That's never been in contention.
People mentioned that the PS3 lacks a competing amount of exclusives, and you can be selectively biased by being as Nationalistic as you want, it doesn't change the FACT that the PS3 has more exclusives than the 360.
I'm being dismissive of ANY form of game that is an exclusive to ONE region, rather than at LEAST two.
That includes the Madden games, the NBA games, the MLB games, etc.
And guess what? Even taking those out--STILL ahead.
And yeah, being dismissive of the Japanese/import games may hurt my credibility. But let's take a look at the aforementioned games--
Oh wait. Why bother? They're weebo garbage. But hey, if they were 360 exclusives--I'd still be dismissing them.

You're right, the "why bother" part does hurt your credibility.
