So it looks like SH was a big hit for GW, and maybe we can get some more classic games back as 1 shot releases.

I'd cast a vote for a 100% plastic epic. If GW kept it simple, IG vs Orks (with SIGH some marines to help) they could give us some credible forces using about the same amount of plastic as the SH set. Even a titan would not take up more sprue space than some of the terminators.

They could something like 100 IG (20 stands), 10 Lemans, 5 Chimeras, 5 basilisks, a valk and a titan. Then add a thunderhawk, 2 drop pods and some marine stands.

Orks get something similar.

throw in some card terrain and you have a game in a box that GW would expand later.

It have to be that old epic, with titan legion. Not that crappy redo they did.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

A little steep for a "SH"-esque set, but I think they should do an Imperium vs. Chaos epic.

I would love some Epic minis. Although I likely wouldn't play it as the actual Epic, rather than a scaled down 40k. That would save me a lot of work on terrain and space.

Fixed that for you

On topic, I loved Epic. I remember having some very good game of it back in the day. But, didn't they re-release it just a couple of years ago?

This is something I'd jump into. I miss the old Epic with the formations on cards. Great game altogether.

Just need some support so folks will actually spend some money on it.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Quest.

It needs to be a self-contained game with no expansion necessary. Quest is that game.

I agree. Epic is..psycotic? Not enough people like the most recent system published, which was modified quite a bit over the years. But I don't see them going back to Space Marine, Adeptus Titanicus, or Titan Legions, because of the age of the rules set. And Epic needs all the armies, not just two.

But WH Quest would be great. The original barely fit in the box, so my hope is a much bigger box

Put in quest and all the expansions. Focus on the card decks and bitz you can't get elsewhere. Do a sprue with all the characters. Another with all the little monsters for the first few levels. Leave out a lot of the stuff that you can just use normal fantasy figures for, (Orcs, minotaurs, ogres, skeletons...). Keep the price down to 99.00

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

Sometimes your seem to put on an 'ignorance hat' Kyoto, and it's really inconsistent.

But to answer your question, unlike you, some people actually like the background for Fantasy and 40K, and want to play a D&D-esque game set in the Warhammer universe.

Is that ok with you, or shall we make fun of Elfs/Space Elfs some more?

It was a serious question, I never played Quest but it always seemed so limited in the foes and the characters you could take. It was like D&D for dummies where only certain characters could have a lantern 'cause that's how the game was written.

For GW dungeoning, I'd rather they use the Mordheim rules which seem a good combo of WH and dungeoncrawl roleplaying.

And in any case were I GW bean counter I would not want to put out a game that so obviously competes with an existing hit game.

Mordheim is just Fantasy Necromunda and, again, is not self-contained. If GW is going to go down the Hulk route again, it needs to be something they can fire and forget, so to speak. Hulk works because it needs nothing more beyond what's in the box (though some more missions would've been nice...). Mordheim, Epic, Necromunda - not even Blood Bowl fits this design scheme. Only Quest does.

And Quest is one of the best GW games I've played. It's less D&D and more Diablo.

Epic Armageddon is a fine game. The resculpts are pretty damned fine, too. The only issue is that there aren't enough resculpts for all the armies. GW also redesigned the plastic infantry sprue using the old SM sculpts which really puzzled a lot of people since they had new sculpts available from FW. Still, Epic is a game system and not a self-contained game like Space Hulk.

What I'd like to see.... hmmmm. Gorkamorka could be nice if the rules were worked over a bit. Two ork mobs specially detailed like the Space Hulk terminators one with a simplified Trukk and the other with a couple of new buggies, maybe.

More tiles for Advanced Heroquest please.
But seriously, with the new plastics it would be possible to provide a full matrix of monsters with different poses and possibly interchangeable weapons.
That would certainly beat monopose skaven with different colour bases and those horrible oval counters!

Just ease up on the Choke spell, it was stupidly too hardcore!

Also, is anyone else a pissed that they can't buy a decent selection of 'wandering monsters' without having to buy regiment boxes???

Why was Epic invented and why was it dropped (or relegated to Specialist Games?)

These are serious questions. I misse the entire history of Epic as it happened during my long hiatus from wargaming.

A theme based hero quest might be doable, like a haunted mansion or something.

Kilkrazy wrote:Why was Epic invented and why was it dropped (or relegated to Specialist Games?)
Epic was designed to be large scale warfare in the 40k universe. Massive armies pitted against each other on the same size tabletop that you usually play 40k on. It was dropped because not enough people were buying figures to continue supporting it. I don't know if it will come back at all due to the success of Apocalypse stuff.

A redo of Epic would be nice, but considering their pricing structure for the Armageddon models It'd be pretty pricy.
I found a load of my old Epic stuff recently. Had the idea of bulking out the armies with some armageddon stuff, till I saw how much they wanted for packs.
Probably leave it apart from a couple of Titans :(

Whilst a new Epic would be awesome (and although I do like the new rules, I still prefer the Space Marine/Titan Legiosn version) but H.B.M.C. is correct in that Quest is far, far more likely.

Quest was a wildly popular game when first released, and like Space Hulk, a one box wonder is all you'd need. Indeed, if you want additional models, you can buy from the Fantasy range.

I do wonder whether we'll get another treat this year.

The Saga of Epic...

You must go back with me a long way in time to those dim and distant years of the Bush administration. The first Bush administration.

Loo did Games Workshop create a game called Adeptus Titanicus, 6 plastic Warlord Titans fighting during a civil war called the Horus Heresy.

Then loo did Games Workshop add infantry and tanks to create Space Marine, then Space Marine 2nd edition. Loo did Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Orks, Squats, Chaos, Eldar and, in time Tyranids, clash mightily on my dorm room table.

Yeh did Games Workshop create Titan Legions with an Imperiator Titan and two Megagargants.

But then woe did Games Workshop scrap these rules to create Epic 40k and behold was it a great failure and most of its expansions were never published as it was hated mightily.

So did Jervis rescue Epic 40k and in Specialist Games did create Epic Armageddon and loo did 3 or 4 people actually play it and say it was not bad.

And now yea they people who actually play Epic worldwide can fit in my living room and still have room for the whole of the world's Dark Future players.

And thus should the Workshop of Games rerelease Epic.

Well I remember the first ever issues of Adeptus Teenytechicus and Dark Futile because I reviewed them for the wargames mag I was editing at the time.

They were pretty much gak, though the models were fun.

I remember walking past the GW shop in Oxford Street about 8-10 years ago and seeing a load of 6mm figures in the window display. I was interested that GW had moved away from WHFB/40K but it didn't pull me into the shop.

Surprisingly, the currently available Epic Armageddon models are not much more expensive than GHQ micro armour -- which is probably a large part of why GW dropped the game and did Apocalypse instead.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

I second that. Gorkamorka was a great specialist game. Handful of Orks and a Trukk was all you really needed. The games were usually fast and furious, and lots of laughter ensued.
