I'm pretty sure that Fantasy Flight Games does Talisman nowadays.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I would like to see Epic back but how about in a new flavour? Do it during the Horus Heresy. This way it won't just be 40k for tiny people.

Epic 30k?

Epic returning? Not a chance.

Warhammer Quest in all it's unbalanced glory? Probably.

I think another run of Space Hulk is more likely.

You're going to single out Quest for being unbalanced? I think we can count on one hand the amount of things GW has made that are balanced.

@ HBMC: Perhaps a little unfair of me but Quest is particularly bad for it.

Aye, never took the Roleplaying game side of seriously for a moment, I have tabletop RPG's for that, but what it is, is one of the best danged Boardgames out there. Its Heroquest blown out of the water, and it had all the rules for everything else in your collection (well pretty much) allowing for an endless line of opertunities in the game.

I think the only negative to its release in the Space Hulk fashion is, and I have to be honest. Will be that I'm not going to be satisfied with just the four warrior types if it is released, I liked some of the alternative types too much.

Other than that, bring it on. (Well hopefully.)

Seriously?

With all of the Cease and Desist stuff out here? The only thing that GW can do...

Blood Bowl, Hero Quest er.. Warhammer Quest, More Space Hulk, ( Such as the Dark Angels expansion, the Genestealer expansion, and possibly Blood Angels expansion.)
More boxed games, courtesy of FF, more models, based on the RPG aspect, and possibly models, based on the videogame characters, games, and more GW IP related videogame products.

Videogames is where the money is. From X box, to Playstation to Computer, THQ and whoever is handing that MMO thing are the ones to watch. ultimatly, this will be money in GW's bank. More exposure= more players in the long run.

Its high time that GW goes back to the basics and brings out a few of thier tried and true stuff from the past, even if it is just for limited runs. Space Hulk, Man O War, Battlefleet gothic, Gorkamorka, Necromunda, Mordhiem, and as well the next incarnation of the Fantasy RPG, and Tabletop game. And of course... they had better give a nod out to thier WAR game.

Now, now let's stay on the subject of how #$%^ing awesome a new version of Epic would be!

One of the great things about the prior versions is that GW explored stuff that it could not do in 28mm. Titans, Superheavies, fliers, all of them came out of Epic.

This time around GW could add some more of the civilian side of 40k with supply trucks for an escort mission or troop landers for an invasion.

They could bring back some of the seriously large kit we've not seen in ages like the Goliath Mega Cannon (the second most phallic weapon GW has even created) and of course TITANS!

Orks could get 2 stompas, a fleet of trukks and gunwagons and bikers to get on top of the hummies.

6 mm is SMALL. They could easily put enough in a $100 box that people would not need expansions.

Possibly, but then you are going to have to revisit how awsome the Squat Laviathan, land train and thunderfire cannon, as well as the Goliath are.

You can't have chips without the dips.

Consider the new Space Hulk for a second. What did it have over the previous two editions?

It came with the Librarian, it came with alternate weapons (Claws, Assault Cannon), the Broodlord, and came with a bunch of expansion missions and tiles. They went out of their way to include a bit from the expansions so you wouldn't need any expansions. I can see a re-release of Quest doing the same thing - 6-8 characters in the box, some Skellies and other things included along with the original style of monsters, maybe even some 'named' bad guys ala Luther and the Dread king - in other words include some of the expansion material in the basic game. That way you've got more than the original game (like the new Space Hulk does) and don't have to worry about expansions.

True that, if that was the case I'd be foaming at the mouth, and probably try and buy six!!

Not quite but you know what I mean.

Oh and I'm not saying I wouldn't like an Epic game KK, but I do think it would need to be a full re-release to get a nice selection of armies across.

Two races, even a three or four small forces aren't going to do it. Not in my mind anyhow.

Although I do think a re-release of epic might be an awesome thing. I intially played more Epic (when it was just plain ole Space Marine) than I did 40K when I started the hobby.

The other possibility I supppose would be an intial box release to get us all excited, and then have Forgeworld to do all the other races. They've done the stuff before.

I never played Quest so I can't comment on how awesome it may or may not have been.

How did/does it compare to FFG's "Descent" though? That, by all accounts is a well-received game and something that a revised Quest would have to measure up against.

Cheers

Not really. Remember that GW never really measures themselves up to anyone. They're quite happy to release whatever, even if the market has equivalents, charge double what everyone else does and jam their fingers into their ears if anyone starts talking about another company's products.

(Just look at BB vs Grind)

No, all GW has to do is compare it to their own products. Is there a hack'n'slash 'light' RPG game in their range right now? Nope. Can it be made completely independent of other lines and require no support? Yep. Was it popular at the time it was out? Indeed.

These criteria fit with Space Hulk, so why not with Quest?

Quest would make an ideal re-release, even if they only did the original box. Adding in some of the additional characters would be pretty straight forward; some you could just add the written rules into the book as there are warhammer miniatures available that could be used (wardancer/warrior priest).

Trying to compare Descent and Quest is a tricky one. Quest allowed you to play on your own as the maps could be randomly generated from a deck of cards; plus the characters actually gained xp and became unique (afaik the Descent characters only evolve or retain equipment when the adventure says so?). Including some of the treasure from the extra decks would be cool as there were some seriously nice pieces of armour available.

I know the RPG elements were basic, but I really loved them at the time. It was just enough to get you invested in your chracters. I remember the Chaos warrior being fun to play between adventures

Wasn't there something about them losing the original copy of the Quest rules though?

Having said that... a re-release of Epic would be fun too. I'd love to go back and reacquire my old Epic guard force with Hellbore and Rough Rider companies. I never did get to put all of it in the field at once...

There is a small comparison of Warhammer Quest to Decent, but pound for pound, Decent is the better of the two.

Warhammer Quest was for Fantasy what Spacehulk did for 40K. It was a introductory game, or an addition. You could play them as one offs, but there was alot of fun with the aditions of the newer characters, the expansons, and the large amount of figures that came with the game that could inter relate with the RPG, or the Fantasy game.

As for Decent, Decent is better as a one off. You don't have to invest time and energy into the so called GW "Hobby" aspect and can play a great game on its own merit. FF games are good for the real beer and pretzel aspect to them. You can play a game, then put it away. You can get as in depth to it, and all along the way have more then a few players doing different things, where in Warhammer Quest, you had the exhustive set up, the way in how the game plodded along, and the way in the game can easily get to overwelm a player with alot of different activities going on.
It is a good game, but I feel that decent did a few things better, and without having to bend over backwards to do it.

To be honest, of the smart games to rerelease, Warhammer Quest would be a great one for GW, even if they did it as a limited release.
What better way to hook a new player?

I've got a friend who's got Decent and all the expansions for it. It's an awesomely fun game, but is also the only game that caused me mind blowing anger and frustration at some aspects of it.

That comment about building dungeons via a random deck of cards that I do now remember from Quest makes me wonder if you could set that up for Decent as well... I think I've got Quest somewhere, I wonder if I can find enough of it to see how that worked.
