Subject: GW Promotion, Dec. 1-15: Citizen's Reward

Here's the latest promotion from Games Workshop. I'm not offering any commentary here in this initial post, what follows is just the text directly from the GW email on the topic: Claim your Citizen's Reward: $15 for every $150 spent From Tuesday 1 December until Tuesday 15 December, all customers who are registered on games-workshop.com will receive a $15 spent in-store or on the web. So, if you are registered on games-workshop.com: Spend $150 or over and receive 1x $15 Citizen's Rewards. Spend $300 or over and receive 2x $15 Citizen's Rewards. Spend $450 or over and receive 3x $15 Citizen's Rewards. …and so on – there's no limit to the rewards you can receive! If you are not registered, register now - it's free and comes with a whole host of other benefits. You don't have to be a hobbyist to register: friends, family, parents, relatives and other gift givers are all welcome to register and receive their Citizen's Rewards, which you can pass on to the lucky recipient of your generosity (or use yourself - we can help you get started with free painting and gaming lessons in store). Your Citizen's Rewards will be issued in the form of paper vouchers in-store or electronic Virtual Vouchers on the web and will be redeemable between Saturday 26 December and Sunday 31 January. Make sure you check out games-workshop.com for more information on claiming your Citizen's Reward.

Seems like an interesting way to deal with holiday shopping, however.

It'll probably work, but they're asking you to spend your money twice in a month.
I mean, what would be covered by the 15 dollar increments?
I'd rather get a discount up front or some other more long term loyalty reward.

That is something I've always wondered why they never have done. Maybe it'd just be something hard to regulate, dealing with international exchange rates?

So, if I buy in exact increments of $150, I get $15 off of future purchased but only for a very limited time. In essence a 10% discount with specific limitations.
And this compares to other online retailers like TheWarStore who have a standard 20% discount how?

Yeah, I would much rather 10$ incriments. I really do think this is aimed more at gift givers than usual buyers.
And you won't be spending it twice in a month; you buy the items in the first half of December, then you have from after Christmas till the end of January to redeem the credits.
I just don't see anyone spending 300 bucks to get to the second tier. Well, I guess that is the point, eh?

I don't think it's meant to be a "discount".
It's more like earning points on your credit card: X amount of points for Y amount spent.
The vouchers apparently are just something to use as a form of credit when buying from GW.

LOL!
You and GW can call it w/e you want , but to us customers , all we care about are " % off "
which simply = 10%
Spend $150 or over and receive 1x $15 Citizen's Rewards. <- 10%
Spend $300 or over and receive 2x $15 Citizen's Rewards. <- 10%
Spend $450 or over and receive 3x $15 Citizen's Rewards. <- 10%
…and so on – there's no limit to the rewards you can receive! UNLIMITED のバカ !!!

@Luna: It nets as 1/11 = 9+%, not 10.0%.
If you live in SoCal, sales tax is 9.25% (LA) or 8.75%(OC), hence I call it a sales tax rebate.

What in the hell are you talking about?
We're not "calling" it anything.
That's what it is. It's you, going into your local GW or ordering online--and then receiving 10% of your purchase as a gift certificate.
You're NOT receiving any money back.
Best guess I can make is that this will be aimed towards the folk who get given models, but no tools and having just started out. It means then that you'll get things like...oh y'know, paint, glue, etc.

So, for most people who aren't buying their whole army at once, they can expect maybe a $15 reward? So at best a 9.something% reward for shopping GW.
Now, while not too bad... that's still less than their competition. And $150 increments is silly. And the 10% "discount" is not even a discount if you look at prices just a year ago for nearly all blisters and (the new) box sets. Hell, all the box sets changed from 20/$30 (or $35) to 10/$22.50? Even with the $15 reward, it's still more expensive buying it now than it was then. Let me repeat: With GW Holiday Savings, it's more expensive than GW's regular prices a few years back.
If I want anything, I'll order it online. Better deals overall.

Thats my point , to futher add more , just like spear of sicarius it shows that buying more from GW doesnt give you any extra deals.
I dont understand why kanluwen is trying so hard to bash what i said.
IF ANYTHING , this certificate is actually worse than 10% discounts. nit pick all you want kanluwen .

Personally, I wish the values at which the rebate started was lower, but hey, if they're still doing free shipping, then I GUESS it evens out.
The only time I can see this actually making sense is with the really large buys (I'm looking at you, Imperial Warzone!), and even then, its only $60 back....

Yes, because correcting the fact that it's not a discount is obviously bashing.

Also, pretty sure I didn't say anywhere that it was a "good" deal, did I?

No strictly speaking to your nit pick , No its not a direct discount.
But giving 10% of purchased back in form of gift certificate = allowing you to get more items with less amount of money is still a form of discount.
Nitpick some more kan
