How would your Imperial Guard army fare if called to fight in a lightning assault, more commonly associated with the Adeptus Astartes? Would you be able to mount a fighting withdrawal with a Tyranid horde? This March sees the release of Battle Missions, a new expansion book for Warhammer 40,000 that is packed full of scenarios and promises to test the generalship and tactical flexibility of every general to the limit.

Battle Missions is a fantastic gaming aid for every Warhammer 40,000 player. The scenarios featured within Battle Missions are all based on the styles of warfare preferred by the armies of the 41st Millennium. With thirty Battle Missions and three Special Missions there's countless hours of exciting wargaming to be had.

Alongside the next expansion book we're also set to unleash a slew of new miniatures for you to add to your armies, including new kits for the Space Marines, Orks and the Imperial Guard. Keep your eyes on White Dwarf, and the Games Workshop website for more.

It can't be, or there will be nothing to release when it turns out that this book was not what everyone had hoped...

New models are always exciting, but I'm REALLY REALLY hoping they re-sell those Apocalypse deals, or variants of them.

Whoa, nice cover.

So is this going to be limited release or "limited release"?

Yes?

OK, as limited as Planetstrike is.

Or was?

I don't think GW's had limited release rule books, have they?

A book full of nothing but scenarios and and new minis for different armies to go with it.

Can't see anything to complain about here

Only about three armies though, if I read the e-mail right. IG, SM, and Orks.

So I guess the whole "releasing models whenever instead of tying them to a codex release" thing only applies to the popular armies at the time. No one else gets crap.

I'm not complaining about the missions book though, this is what I was hoping we'd get instead of Planetstrike. Not that I have no imagination and can't come up with something new on my own, but I prefer having something "official" since I'm no master of game balance and I'd rather not play with home-brewed crap anyway.

Well, it actually only says 'including SM, Ig and Orks.'

I wonder if any of the missions will make it into standard tourney play, and how many will require an altered force org chart?

Interesting. I really enjoyed playing many of the missions in the 3rd ed rulebook, I'll be picking this supplement up for sure (especially after I skipped Planetstrike).

Amazing! Words can't describe how much this thrills me. Wait, they just did, by not doing so. Forgive my doubt, oh linguistic overlords. Don't take away your blessings, lest I gabrasdk alskf ajdsf y sdlkd.

Anyway, this would be amazing. I might even prefer it to a new codex.

Playing 5th edition, straight up from the book, there's 3 mission and 3 deployment options. We've played them many, many times. And one of the missions is bad (I'm looking at you, drawfest).

30 new missions is an awesome upgrade. If even half of them are good we'll have access to 4-5 times as many scenarios as currently. If the race specific missions aren't hogwash they'll be another chance at codexes that wont' see a new book for a long time. (That is, Tau may be wretched, but if their missions helps em out they may deserve another look).

Very enthused! Can't wait! Will buy instantly.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I usually couldn't care less when GW decides to release sourcebooks (I'm really too poor to buy them) but I think this one looks like it's worth it.

I'm digging the idea of new models, too. All-in-all, this seems legit.

EDIT: I suck at grammar.

This sounds excellent. I love non-army specific stuff like this. Planet Strike might have been a bit disappointing, but it was still fun for a few games, and Apocalypse was of course a great time.
The common theme: we all got to use all of our armies for games. GW take heed!

Also, some decent wave love for IG and SM would be kind of nice, but new buggies and plastic 'kans and dreads for orks would be AMAZING.

Inboud...

I can't wait for this book- missions are vital to keeping the game fresh, and I kinda miss the variants that used to turn up in WD battle reports. Anyone remember the canyon Extraction mission? With George Dellapina's (spelling?) Orks and Owen Ree's IG? Now that was a mission I never got tired of playing!

I don't care about the missions, but new Ork stuff is always excellent news. I don't think I'd complain one bit it it was Orks who got a variant Codex each year...

I found that scenario supplement GW Canada put on their web site right after 5th edition to be a great way of doing scenarios. I wonder if that was the genesis of this product.

My early prediction, based on nothing, is that the book will have two missions specific to every army except Marines and Guard, who will have At Least three each or some other kind of shared Imperial missions so they end up with more than everyone else.

I'll guess maybe 6 generic Attacker/Defender missions. Another 6 symmetrical missions that might be suitable for tournament running. For fun, they'll also throw in 6 different types of Deployment Zones you can use in the missions.
