Hopefully GW was lying about those Tallarn not being intended for release. Those are some nice sculpts. I'll be content for a loooong time if they bring back the old 2nd/3rd Ed regiments in plastic.

It'd be interesting if there are models catering to more than just Marines, IG and Orks. Definitely looking forward to this book though, Capture and Control/ DoW get old when there's not much in the way of other missions to choose from.

Probably.
The better question is will you be able to have it painted in time?
Oh, and Ozzy, I finally found my camera(right after my wife bought a new, better camera for herself, no less), so I'll be able to do WiP shots of my Primaris getting a mask(I'm thinking the one from the BB sprues, as it's closer in style to the Krieg/Steel Legion masks than the Cadian Respirators).

*sigh*
Why not preview it now Games Workshop. Why not get everyone jazzed about this book now. Why don't you preview the new models now, do painting and modelling articles, give us background articles on the new units, have a few battle reports to show us how it works - promote your upcoming product rather than going " We've got this awesome thing that's coming out... but we're not going to show you any of it until it's released."

I'd expect the new Basilisk will swap the old plate-wheels-treads for the new simplifield track parts to cut GW's costs down and profits up.

I mean, they REALLY should have told us what other variants are in those kits.
Unless, of course, there aren't any variants in there? If not, that would be a missed opportunity...

@Alpharius: variants would mean redoing the Basilisk and Chimera sprues - that costs money. Changing the expensive sprues for cheaper ones saves reduces cost at the same price point. Given the choice of a "stealth" price hike, I think it's easy to see what GW will do.

Look up a few posts. The details were that there will be a new Basilisk and Chimera released in conjunction with Battle Missions. It even gives you a page number to thumb to.
Alpharius wrote:Ugh.

One would hope it isn't just a sprue rebox, since last I knew GW was trying really hard to get models out of anything they put into a Codex. Along that line of thought, I'm actually surprised they haven't brought out the old metal Griffon bits, posted them in the bits/collectors section, and charged $20-$30 for them.

I have / had a set of metal Griffon bitz, and they're not good. Metal casting dimensional shrinkage means the deck doesn't fit well in the chassis, and heat warpage means stuff isn't round or square. I can't wait to see that thing properly redone in plastic.
But having assembled many, many Guard tanks, doing away with the stupid wheels and treads is a major step forward for people doing massed Tank construction.

They've already redone the Chimera sprues. What do you think comes with the Hellhound. The parts to make the track sections of a re-cut chimera, a universal 'tracks and sides' sprue to go with every Chimera-based tank.

If someone would take a moment to think about the IG tank kits and their sprue contents, they would realize the the Chimera and Basilisk incorporate unique sprues that have *not* been redone, but would have to be redone (at additional cost) to support variants.

Have you bought a Hellhound combi kit yet?
That kit contains the BUILDING BLOCK FOR ALL FUTURE CHIMERA VARIANTS. Just add one more sprue for added effect. Be it artillery or a vanilla Chimera sprue. That's all you need, seeing as the current lower chassis sprue has everything, even the rear skirt for the open-topped variants.

Why would I buy yet another Guard tank that doesn't match my other Guard tanks?
Especially after I've seen the sprues.
Besides, that rear skirt bit has always been part of the chassis parts - that's why all of my Chimeras use it as part of their spaced armor. (click the IG linky to see pics)

Maybe if KP's weren't inherently unbalanced, that'd be true. And MSU was never a problem in 3rd or 4th. It only became an 'issue' when KP's showed up and everyone used it as a way of justifying a horribly broken victory point system (especially when the previous VP system was 100% balanced).
MSU was a huge part of 4th ed. With any unit being able to claim, I cannot tell you the number of games I won with a 35 point kopta or 40 point buggy. Packing a lot of min-maxxed squads was just better. If you had to pick between one unit with 10 guys or two with 5 each, the 5 each won every time. They could split fire better, claim quarters better, be in more places better. And they denied victory points better. Kill points make you actually think about running larger or smaller units. You have to consider the tradeoffs now.
