Hey gang,

Here is some of the stuff I'vee been working on. Please shout it out if anyone wants to see more or shout at me for having done a crappy job.

Here is the beginning of my scratch built tank (soon to be a light macharius pattern). It will be a leman russ battle tank for the sake of gameplay.

Here is the board I've been working on.

And here are some of the Arbites conversions I've been making. I field them as a veteran squad with carapace and shotguns.

I really like the table. I assume that there will eventually be some big and suitably destroyed buildings to go on it?

Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.

Loving the Arbite conversions. I take it they're Scout Bodies and Legs with IG heads + Green Stuff?
The Board Looks awesome as well. Will it be mainly ruined or mainly in tact buildings? 'Cos not many people do complete buildings and that's most likely where the Arbites will be.

I'll quit rambling now.

I had thought about using scout bodies for arbites, because GWs Necro range is to expensive, but the IG heads is a great idea.
The scouts are £12 for 10 arent they?
Very cheap!

@Pagarus - 5 fro £12 I think. Still cheap though.

@OP - Love it all, especially the Arbites. Might borrow that idea, it just looks so cool. The table should definately have complete buildings, ruins are just too over done.

Great job, hope to see more soon.

Scouts are the way to go if you want to make Arbites. I love the Necromunda and older style arbites, but they are all way too expensive these days.

I'm thinking of buying a few gw buildings and using some plasticard to make some big buildings. I'll probably make everything a little war-torn since most of my army is regular guard, but keep it a very urban feel. I'm thinking a manufactorum warehouse district. I want to make at least one skyscraper style building though. A place for my ratlings to hide and clean house.

Here are some psykers I made from Eldar bodies and space marine scout heads. Right now I have 5 of them but I've got another 5 coming in the next few months.

And here is the Arbites ride. I downloaded some of the paper tank blueprints a while back and built one for fun. Now I use it in every game.

And here are some of my Shotgun vets in the works. Shotguns aren't really any better than lasguns for the guard, but I just like them from a modeling standpoint.

His painting skills are awesome and his playing skills are pretty damned good too. We've pretty much completely destroyed each other the few games we have played so far. The last game I definitely got my ass handed to me. There is always the next time...

I had a few people ask about the Arbites conversion, so here is pretty much the whole process i used.

I just used space marine scout bodies arm and legs,

and I used green stuff on the standard cadian heads to made them look as much like an arbite as I could.

I gave them a face mask and a little ridge at the top of their helmet and I threw some green stuff knee pads on them along with some ribbing on their toe caps also done in greenstuff.( ithink I also put ribbing on the backs of their gloves, but I don't have them in front of me right now.)

I also shaved down their backs a little. I didn't realize it but the scout torsos have obscenely large backpack things. I did this mostly to give them a different profile so that when painted they wouldn't look like a SM scout with a hairdo.

For the sarge I used the cadian sarge head and took a scout chainsword and filed down to look like a power maul.

For painting, I went with a black basecoat, drybrushed with shadow grey then drybrushed again with ultramarines blue. I painted their knee pads tos and glove ribs red and then highlighted in macharius orange.

That's pretty much all I did. When you get down to it is surprisingly easy. I bought greenstuff and did goggles on an entire army of cadians and it was the easiest part of the whole job. The arbites are my second experience in greenstuff but it's no too difficult to manipulate as long as you keep your fingers wet.

I'd love to see somebody else's take on home brew arbites. Please send me some pics if you decide to make some of your own.

Here is a new un-ruined building I started. It has a removable roof with a tower of sorts up there.

Here is a ruined building I have also started. This one has the back end collapsed for easy access.

This is the start of the turret for my scratchbuilt tank. It will eventually have a battle cannon and a coaxial heavy stubber.

And finally a shot of the paper thunderbolt I built for fun and turned into a terrain piece. It lasted about 5 days and then my dog tore it apart while I was out of the house.

Another shot.

Pretty sweet, so you have what, like three thousand more guys to paint now? Check out my Dark Angels; they're coming along nicely - I haven't quite kept up my one-a-day pace, but I have managed to crank out these sixteen so far.

I'm pretty pleased with the two sergeants I've finished:

And then there's this guy:

I modified a power-axe to make that force maul, I was imagining something like a glorified ASP baton...

... I'm planning on updating it with other dork-game materials eventually, including fan-fiction, but for now I'm focused on painting.

The table is awesome.

How did you work out widths for all the roads?

I.e. can a LR get down the narrow street or only land speeder (I realise that in game the vehicles will run everywhere)

Waaagh_Gonads, The small road is about 2/3 the width of a Leman Russ, and the larger roads are plenty wide to fit LR's and chimeras etc.

While this image doesn't show the smaller road maybe it will give you an idea of the overall scale.

Here is another shot showing road scale.

I don't keep the board set up so I can't measure it at the moment, but I picked an arbitrary number for the size of the roads (just big enough for a tank to fit) and made one smaller to be sort of a side street.

I then taped off the areas for non-roads and spray painted them with a rustoleum textured spray paint. The texture is a lot finer than most basing sand and seemed appropriate for my urban setting.

After I finished the blocks I hand painted the roads using acrylic craft paint from my local craft store (Michael's). The paint is only useful for scenery and buildings and the like. It's cheap and takes a few coats to look good but ...it's cheap, so I use it anyway.

After the roads were done I drew the Aquila on the highway section in pencil and hand painted it with GW modeling paint, and then I began using masking tape to tape off the lines for all the roads. I'm sort of anal about that stuff so I spent a while measuring before painting, but it was well worth the extra time to not have odd stray lines.

Painting the lines, I used a large drybrush and again GW paint and dry brushed the lines so as to leave them a little uneven and faded looking in places. I used the GW paints for all of the details because I didn't want to have to go over spots more than once. I figured the less painting I did the less chance of a mistake.

Here is the board with some terrain.

Let me know what you guys think or if anything is stupid or doesn't make sense. It should be mentioned that I built this board before having ever played a game of 40k, so in hindsight a may have layed things out a bit differently but thems the breaks.

The cool Gothic looking buildings are Pegasus models, a few of the buildings are scratch built from foam core, and I got some wedding cake pillars from a craft store and a friend of mine got stone walls from a hobby store.

I've been into building things from scratch lately, and have been really into this website. (http://www.ironhands.com/)

His stuff is pretty simple to make and has a nice end result. Plus the GW buildings are way too expensive for me.

The template was on www.tabletopwar.com, but it looks like he has since taken all templates down because of GW pressure. I may still have it on my computer, if I can come up with it I may be able to send it to you, but I'm not sure I should post it on the forum. I don't want to get anyone else in trouble if GW thinks it's infringement of their IP.

So I finally went for it and spent $20 at my local modeling store for Mig brand weathering powder. As the case always seems to be, I should have had this stuff from the beginning. It's pretty much like doing meticulous drybrushing without the "meticulous" or the time the "meticulous" takes.
Yeah these things aren't cheap ($8.99 apiece for the ones I got) but they look pretty amazing. I have " Black Smoke" which is a really dark charcoal grey and "Rubbel Dust" which makes my tanks look like they were in Berlin in 1945. The Rubbel color is an earthy medium grey. It's a good highlight color for my semi urban guard army.

Here's my executioner (yes all the weapons are magnetized).

And here is the Battle tank variant.

All in all the stuff really completes my tanks, if you ever look at the stuff and want to try it but question your decision because it's too expensive, just buy it anyway it'll save you a lot of time and it will pay for itself in terms of how much extra time you can work on other models.

BANEBLADE!

I was impressed with a thread I found on Warseer for a totally amazing IG mechanized army and decided to join the ranks of Baneblade owners. I liked this guys building and painting style even though it's totally out of my league so I'm going to steal a lot of totally awesome ideas.

I also like the Forgeworld track guards but don't like paying for that crap so I made some.

Here is some dude crawling out of a hatch dangerously close to a Demolisher Cannon.

Some realistic stowage.

A spare track link and a little brass rod.

I thought guns with cameras on them made sense too.

An armor plate for the pintle mount stubber.

Some more brass rod stuff.

Finally an engine compartment shot.

I made a Stormtrooper Sarge out of some Elysian Bits and a Spacewolf Scout head. I also decided to make him a stowed Hellgun.

While perusing the GW site I discovered the Sergeant Harker Mini and became enamored with him. Fortunately his rules aren't terrible because I'd end up using him either way, but here is my veteran infiltrator squad. I used three Elysian plasma guns as well.

They're a work in progress, but coming along.

I built a pair of Sentinels with magnetized weapons. After a bit of thought I think I'm usually going to field them as Scouts with Autocannons, and maybe try out missile launchers as well.

I made some progress on my mostly scratchbuilt tank.

It's almost ready for paint, a little more detail and I'm there.

Lord_Astaroth: the rivets are made from plasticard rods that i just cut very thin with a modeling knife. I usually put a small pool of plastic glue on a piece of cardboard, and use the tip of the modeling knife to spear the rivets, dip them in the pool of glue and apply them. It is certainly a pain in the ass and takes a bit of practice but the result is pleasing.

Thanks Flinty, it's a labor of love, and someday it'll be done and painted.

I've also got a six wheeled chimera in the works. I'll put pics up once there is something to look at.
