Gathering the Informations.

Today, they've put up two "quick rosters" for both 40k and Fantasy. They actually look...well, kind of handy.
From the page:
Games Workshop wrote:The Warhammer 40,000 Army Roster Sheet has been specially designed to make writing an army list easier and more straight forward. It has space for you to list each of your units, characters and vehicles, and a section to record the rules for their weapons. Click on the PDF link below to download the Warhammer 40,000 Army Roster Sheet. Feel free to print out or photocopy as many sheets as you need.

I think you give GW too much credit. Must be a coincidence - GW can't react to anything in just 2 days.

Looks mighty handy, I just wish there wasn't so much going on in the background. A simple black and white roster sheet to fill out would be so much lighter on my ink budget

A user-operated unit-organization tool?

I was thinking the same thing... however a simple, free and immensely useful improvement is if they were forms that you could fill out before printing. That way I don't have to chicken scratch inside the boxes and I could have lists worth archiving. I know drop down choices is too much to ask, but simple text boxes would be awesome.

They ought to make a pad available at the GW stores.
Could be nice seller

Its hard to be awesome, when your playing with little plastic men.
Welcome to Fantasy 40k

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

I doubt this is a two-day response to the C&D stuff. The pdf has probably been in the
works and they just now decided to post it up on the site.

However, pdf doesn't work for me.

Pft. Far cheaper to just print the stuff out. I've filled up a report binder with the things today.

And in regards to the only writing in them...

I'm sure someone out there will find a way to save the file and set it up so you can add your own textboxes.

Even if that is the case, it does show *some* minor interactivity with the community on their part. The "What's New" section has seemed to be like that for quite awhile now.

Just a new roster. What a waste of time. It could at least have been a form to be completed on screen and then printed.

It's hardly a waste of time matey.

I reckon Staff Members can use these to good affect, turning Customers into full on Hobbyists. After all, not every kid can write a decent, complete and legible army list. Print a bunch off, and give them to new starters when they but their Codex/Army Book. Lovely little tool.

Its actually not bad. The old one could be typed on though, which this SHOULD be able to do (and printed as noted).

Pretty nifty IMHO. I'll probably still use Excel for list compiling, but these would be handy for actual gaming.

I can make a word doc if you guys want?

Simple text boxes throughout

Although I'm not sure how legal that would be...

Haven't been able to download the sheet from GW yet (office firewall ), but this would be great regardless. Did you import the PDF into Word?

Sort of. I captured the PDF as an image using print screen then saved as a JPEG. Then I created a rectangle shape. Cllicking on the edge of the rectangle and choosing format auto shape/fill effects, then choosing the PDF image as the picture, will fill the rectangle with the PDF image.

This way you can layer text boxes in the appropiate places on top

I did post a picture but I'm not sure if that would get me in trouble or not...

Good question actually. They give explicit permission to print and photocopy all you want, but is this adaptation treading on toes?

I'd wager it's one of those grey areas, but as long as it's listed clearly as an adapatation of their work, and free to download/use you'd be alright?

But I'm not a legal expert. Hell, I'm not even claiming to be 'The Man In The Pub' level of legal knowledge.

Games Workshop's "What's New" has a submission email address. You should email the idea to them, and ask if they would post what you did as an alternative download if someone wants to type out what they're using.

Good call! And if I'm right in thinking, they've used a fan adaptation of such things before? Certainly Specialist Games have. I think. If memory serves, it was an expanded Mordheim Roster?
