Hi, I notice that several Dakka members have given themselves animated avatars and wondered how I might make one myself. I have various programs for graphics manipulation and can make animated giffs, etc but cannot find any info about what is the best format to use. If this is already covered somewhere else can someone point me to it? Thanks

Bah, I was hoping this was a thread to complain about the animated Avatars. Most of them have annoyed me enough that I've started Adblocking the ones I dislike, which is more than half that I've seen I believe. I find them too distracting in most cases.

Complain away, the internet is a big place and no doubt lots of people will agree with you. I am just interested in extending my pc skills and adding a bit of originality to my dakka "face". Even some of the non animated avatars are annoying.

Awwww Aduro you haven't blocked mine have you D: . I've gotten so many compliments on the incredibly disturbing clown-thingy that is my avatar .

But I didn't make my avatar, I found it on the web. If you want to find an animated avatar, just google animated avatars or .gif avatars and something should come up.

If you can make animated GIFs, make one. I'm not aware of any other format for animated pictures.

Also, your damn stupid clown-thing was probably only the second dakka avatar I've ever adblocked. Jolly annoying!

Yours and the "Boom Headshot" one were the first two I blocked. I think I've only actually blocked like four, since few people really have them. I've also blocked the various Adoptables people had in their sigs.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

You can block individual people's avatars? Nice

Well, cookies ARE delicious.
I will see if IE will allow me. Firefox cookies go bad occasionally.

Nope...

also, OT the funnyest animated avatar is probably the one that looks like a loading screen that says: attempting to give a damn.

I agree. Animated avatars are a pain in the butt.

I rather like mine, made in Adobe ImageReady. It's pretty easy in there, you can add or remove as many frames as you like, control rate of cycle on each frame, etc.

To be fair, I've had it forever... I think I'll make a new one some time.

You can make animated .gifs really easily in Photoshop or Flash. .gif is the way to go if you want your image to be animated. I'm happy with my static avatar though. Boreale is silently judging all of you, all the time.

Sadly, I didn't make the Dancing Black Mage. By this point, I don't remember where I found the little guy, but I've used him forever. I had to ask some folks I knew when I wanted to make a Christmas version.

Out of curiosity, anyone blocked the little guy?
