So, are we allowed to comment about the mods/modding and the general management here at Dakka, or is that forbidden, resulting in getting us banned? Course, at this point, getting banned isn't too terrible a notion.

I'm not sure what you're saying, but if you have a problem with the way Dakka is managed, talk to yakface.

lol yeah I guess so. He told me that he was going "tell on me" and "get me in trouble" basically. Well, I assume he did because the thread we were discussing was immediately locked and the Modquisition noted that several of us would be receiving colorful PMs. I basically wanted to let him know that my question wasn't referring to him or his actions. I haven't received a PM and I'm still here (for now). What I did receive was PMs from neutral posters telling me exactly what would happen because the mods are influenced by certain posters. It appears to be true. If that is the case, it should be brought to the attention of management. If management knows and is basically like, "STFU and get back to your posting", then it'll probably be time to move on.

Forums should be objective. I'll be PMing Yakface, though, and not discussing it further here.

Remember that the forum is the property of Yakface, and if he wants to ban you for whatever reason he's well within his rights to do so. This isn't a public space, this is a private space that admits the public at the owner's discretion. At least the Administrators and Moderators are honest about that though.

1) ANYONE who has an issue with ANYTHING on this site, particularly anything a Moderator says or does, should contact YAKFACE directly about it.

2) Mods are Human (Gasp!), so sure, they are biased, like we all are. However, I think (obviously) that we're a pretty even handed bunch. PLEASE remember that ALL issues are, for the most part, handled PRIVATELY. Most times you will NOT know when another user has been warned, suspended, etc.

3) And, "Neutral" Posters?

True neutral is where it's at.

This is not a democracy.

It is a (mostly) benevolent dictatorship. Dakka is the property of Yakface.

Legoburner is the Engineer, he ensures it runs smoothly.

The mods are 'elevated to daemonhood' (invited to become a mod) by drawing the positive attention of the existing mods and admins and having a (fairly) clean slate.

Mods don't need no steekin 'popularity', they are here to enforce the rules and chew gum.

But I'll say this much, the mod personalities are widely varied, there will be some you tout as great and some you ponder and mutter about, that's part of the success of this forum. And they are ALL far more lenient than moderators and moderation attitude on other boards about our hobby.

Dakka tries to allow us to be as mature as we wish to appear to be to the rest of our peers, only kicking us in the goolies when we are directly attacking others.

Well, I'd love to see them lay down the law a bit in YMTC, it's been in decline for quite some time with a particularly vocal few using it as their own private sandbox (the folks who take RAW as an excuse to solder random sentences together and preach it as gospel since it's 'in the book n00b!'). It's a great shame given how interesting I used to find that area of the boards. I rarely go there at all now.

My sadness is that new and especially young players will go to YMTC, see that pig gak and believe it's 'the way you're supposed to be playing', especially given the snide and insinuating wording used by those particular undiagnosed Asperger's sufferers...

Come on, it's not that bad. Gwar! is just overly emphatic about his positions.

Frazzled and Ketara are the greatest mods ever! Well, I don't know all the mods yet, the rest of you might be the greatest mods ever too!

I was a jerk and flamed a mod, and I got banned, but you know I found out they really do deserve the benefit of the doubt and our support. They were forgiving and gracious, and come to think of it, I'm going to tell Yakface they are great!

Dakkadakka has some of the best moderation of any site I've been on, despite what at least one persistent poster will tell you.

Sure, I don't agree with all the mods, or the approaches of some (I think that the OT forum and YMDC are both a little more laissez faire than they should be) but 1 bad apple hasn't spoiled the barrel here.

Most people will have read a few posts up that says to disregard the OP, that the issue has been resolved by Yakface.

I treat Dakka like i would a bar:

Yakface is the owner; sat, shrouded in smoke somewhere out of the way.

The Mods are like the Bouncers and Barstaff; If you piss some of them off, you may not get served a drink for a while. Piss other ones off and you may be kicked out for the evening.

It's fairly easy here to work out what you can and can't get away with. If you like drinking here, you abide by the rules (fairly nebulous in nature but that's true of any forum). If you don't like it, don't expect anyone to care when you get kicked out for acting like you're the most important person there.
