I know all the speculation but I've yet to hear a confirmation of either next book.

Wow.

This like unprecedented secrecy.

Wouldn't it be a bit early for them to be talking about the next 40K Codex? Codex:Blood Angels JUST came out...

Pretty sure C: BA was formally announced like 2-3 weeks after Tyranids.

In any case, I'm dying to know.

I'm hoping for that Forces of the Imperium Book they promised me in 1995. That or the Squat Codex. Either/or.

The turn over since SM5th has indeed spoilt us all. I'll be happy as long as it isn't BT or DA.

I wouldn't mind if they did all the remaining Marine codexes first, because then they'd be out of the way, and (hopefully) consistent. But I suspect the BT's won't appear till next year. Given that the BA have become the ultimate Marine assaut force, I'm not sure what role the BT's will have.

The source I know who's been very reliable in the past said that it's now very hard to find out what's coming, and he doesn't know what's after Spearhead (although he confirmed the Orcs being re-done, with new plastic boars). I think the next codex will be the Dark Eldar, probably in the latter part of the year.

It's totally possible that BT and DA will be (basically) skipped a la BA in 4th.

My FLGS has some painted Squats in a glass case, gak is cash no joke. I wouldn't mind seeing those little guys come back in this golden age of plastic models.

Honestly?

I would love to see DA redone. There's not much to it other than fixing some of the glaring stupid inconsistencies (why are Deathwing Terminators unable to have 10 man units, have worse Storm Shields for more, etc) and maybe releasing a Belial model. Voila--Dark Angels are done with very little resource time devoted to them, and it makes quite a significant portion of the Marine community happy. Black Templars I can't comment on as I don't have the Codex to look through.

My personal bets however on what the next 40k army is?

Tau. It's the perfect excuse to redo the Codex with "Spearhead" coming up given the Tau's reliance on armoured assaults.

Fantasy? I'm going to say no armies redone till next edition, but High Elf and Dark Elf infantry kit releases prior.

I'd be cool with Tau. I have a load of unopened Tau stuff (Armageddon proportions) that I have been putting off thinking about until there is a dex that allows for lists I can be bothered to build.

I hope BT and DA get redone at some point, but at least they currently have 3 reasonable choices for counts-as at the moment. The next one better be a 3E holdout, preferably a Xeno one bit I wouldn't complain if WH or DH players finally got their 'dex.

Hopefully it won't be Squats, because then i'll have to go buy a Squat army

Would be nice to see a real CSM codex instead of the temporary nonsense we currently have, but that's pretty unlikely.

I'm not that fussed which 'dex gets redone next as long as they keep up with the pace of releases so far.

Since 40k5 was released they have been churning out the armies pretty quickly. If they continue we might get to a stage where *SHOCK HORROR* everything is on the same edition...

But my vote is for DE next (FWIW)

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

I hope it isn't another SM release.

The collective angst will most likely break the Internet.

I'm fairly sure it will be either Tau or Necrons.

Possible Inquisition/Grey Knights (Oh no!).

Then, of course, Dark Eldar.

Hear! Hear! I've been waiting for a Squat book since the day-glo days of 2nd ed.

Also, a forces of the Imperium book with Inquisition, Witch Hunters et al. would be great as I have just picked up some of the Witch Hunter models cheap and I'd love to get them on a board sometime for a spin. If they do release said codex, I'd love to see a new penitent engine!

Either or, in no particular order would be wonderful.

Then after that some xenos updates, lotsa xenos. Then a combined chaos marines codex with rules for running undivided or god/chapter based forces (you know incentives to run a undivided force). Afterwords I don't really care, though I would love to see a new army, something like the angels of chaos (think about it)

Actually....

... I think we'll find that GW have moved away from even trying to update all the armies for the 2 Warhammer games. I'm sure there will be certain races of factions.... everyone's favourite poster boys of course.... who do get an update with each and every edition, but aside from that from everything I'm hearing certain books or factions will have to go a fair old time before being updated.

This goes some way towards explaining why certain models aren't rolled out despite the clear demand for them -- Thunderwolf cavalry being a/the prime example here -- as it leaves a kit that can be either added at a later date to provide more interest or a sales boost to flagging lines or could even be left to be added as/when the book is finally updated.

... veterans here will be remembering the years of barren drop pod modellessness here perhaps.

I don't know fo' sure but I would indeed be surprised if we saw any army books released for WFB between now and the 8th edition roll out... whilst there's been a lot of noise about Ogres and the like, the sources that I have and I believe, lead me to think they aren't on the drawing board for anytime soon, at least rules wise anyway. And I don't see them doing much to the model range at the moment either if there's no rules frame work to hang releases on.

I will say will reasonable certainty however : disregard any talk about new races or brand new codices for the foreseeable future. That ain't happening, at least from the Design Studio anyway.

There is also some stirrings about an "announcement" or statement to come from.. well.. via would be more accurate I suppose, from Jervis Johnson in the summer.
