Paint them and glue a nickel to the bottom of your bases - nobody will ever know the difference! Fake miniatures from the earlier days of GW are pretty common.

You already bought em, no reason to throw them away.

If you somehow feel "dirty" about playing with them, just paint them real good and use them for decorative purposes.

Buying them unknowingly? No, that's not your fault.

Selling them? Definitely.

It's not illegal to own or buy recasts, you did so in good faith it's not your fault. Do what I do, keep them but remove them from circulation. I usually just shrug when I find that I've bought a recast, but I never pass them on. Well I might give them away but I would never sell.

There was something around here on one of these threads about that GW will pay you for those fakes, someplace.

I'm not sure if thats true or not. I haven't heard of anyone that got a cash in on them, but you never know, sometimes.

Is this policy still true?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. KNOWINGLY buying knockoffs is a potential legal issue, depending on country and the exact circumstances surrounding the sale.

But the OP clearly didn't know they were resin when he bought them.

He's responding to your post.

The first line in your post suggests that any purchase of counterfeit items, knowingly or otherwise, is illegal. He was responding to that statement with his own that likely, unknowingly buying knock-off's is not as illegal.

The buyer could not be prosecuted but the fake figures could be seized and destroyed.

However it is very unlikely this would happen because how are GW going to find your figures?

As GW have said time and again, if you buy second hand, and the models turn out to be knock offs, send them to GW, and tell them which thieving little scrote sold them to you.

Where possible, they will try to replace the knock-offs with the genuine article.

My buddy gave me a huge amount of fake Resin Bases for Battletech a few months back. I knew they were fake and someone gave them to him before he found out. Me and him play casually so It isn't that big of a deal.

GW though? I sure as hell wouldn't send the minis to them. I personally have very little faith in faceless corporations with things of this nature so I would just use them. Casual only mind you but I would still play with them.

I don't know if you play Battletech, but everything is metal. So the guy he got them from made a mold so he could have cheap bases. The guy was getting out of the hobby apparently and gave my buddy all of his stuff so, ummm, yeah.

Some guys over here even use empty bases or improvised models. As long as the battle's not official, there should be nothing to worry about.
