I do to prevent tiredness &/or bordom. A lot of the time I feel like I shouldn't to have better concentration though. Please share your thoughts or music choices!

Well I used to listen to alot of music back in my painting marathon days. In fact, the old color scheme of my guard was created listening to mastodon's Blood Mountain.

Other favorites are pretty much your typical war/death music.
Amon Amarth
Bolt Thrower
Lamb of God, stuff like this.

Then, I also like to listen to music that stimulates my brain. This could be of any genre, most of the time its stuff like gojira, clutch, porcupine tree, pelican or modest mouse.

Most of my music is of some rock/metal genre. Though I am a huge fan of country, I don't feel as if it's a good choice for painting.

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

I've been setting paint dates with a friend who also just got into the hobby. I like sharing paints, brushes, advice while chatting it up. If you can get anyone to paint with - do it. Makes the painting go quicker.

Failing that, I paint with sponge bob on in the background.

I listen to radio, and also soundtracks from various movies, LOTR and The Dark Knight mainly, with a little bit of this and that thrown in to break it all up

I offer commission painting. See the Painting Service list in the Dakka Swap Shop for details.

Old marches, mostly (O' Sullivan's, Lillibulero, Brian Boru's, Gerry Owen, Bonnie Blue Flag) .

Sometimes things like Lowlands of Holland, O' Donnell Aboo, Turkish Revelee, Captain Kidd, Cumberland Blues, The Minstrel Boy, Prince Charlie Stuart, Hard Times of Old England, The Diamond, Lady Franklin's Lament, Northwest Passage, Greenland Fisheries, Boney was a Warrior.

Sometimes older stuff: Pilgrim Songs (Cuncti Simus Concanentes is a favorite) and chants and things like that. Helps get me in the mood.

You know, the usual!

I enjoy listening to audio books while I build, paint, sculpt, and convert. I've listened to the unabridged versions of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potters, various Star Wars, etc... The Black Library audio books have been especially entertaining and a good way to keep me in the mood. If you dont want to buy audio books, or get them off the internet, try your public library; they usually have audio books for check-out. Also, if you have a blind friend, great! They have access (through a government website) to some unabridged books that are not available commercially. That is how I listened to an unabridged version of Shadows of the Empire.

There is a side affect however. I can look at my miniature collection, and I can literally identify which book I was listening at the time I painted what miniature. Just a little weird sometimes when I go to grab my Champion of Slaanesh and start thinking about the Deathly Hollows. Or my Nurgle Daemon Prince and Twilight...uhgh.

I come from a time when basecoats were white, miniatures were metal, and my ork's gun glowed red; I am a McVey disciple.

I always listen to music when I paint, what I like to listen to depends on what I'm painting, over the past year I've developed this taste for Christen Rock while I paint Marines...Wierd
If you can find them, there are several Bluegrass Tribute Albums out there to bands like Nickleback, Ozzy Osborn, Guns ' Roses, Metalica, Linken Park and a few others I find a new one about once a month, these work real well & something about them just seams to fit, also chants of all kinds and anthying in Latin work great...And of course Novelty Music for my Orkz
Any suggestions on good Tyranid Music

I actually watch pro painters on the internet paint the same kind of army I'm painting with music in their videos.

I find they have a lot of techno, dance, or hard rock in their videos, mostly in good taste.

I voted yes but it's not always music...Usually I'll pop in a movie that I've seen a hundred times before and know by heart. That way it doesn't catch my attention that well and I always know when to turn to catch my favorite parts!

Tom Petty

Billy joel
Elton John
ETC

That kind of stuff. I feel it has a slower more relaxing tone to it. Plus my pops made us listen to that stuff since we were kids.

Tried W40kRadio, but didn't like it as much. Too much nonsence talk, and not so much as I hoped about warhammer. I spendt alot of hours painting/glueing the new Blood Angels while watching/listening to Beasts of War's 7 Days of Sanguinius.
