im really confused on your title of choice, 5th renegade army of blood ravens? so you mean traitor blood ravens? or bloodangles? i spot a borther corbullo in there so im assuming bloodangel codex rules? maybe a bit more depth on your topic instead of random name and photos,

on the painting agenda i would suggest washes and cleaner coats of paint, right now it looks like you attacked it with a tank brush? maybe work some test minis to your best ability, it doesn't hurt to try your best, the sagnuary priest and scout with heavy bolter look good, but alck some contrast which washes will give you effortlessly

Please clean up the models. The painting is really messy, though with a bit of cleaning up they have potential. Just by going over the areas where the colour has moved to where it shouldn't be with a fine detail brush and using a wash it will bring out the finer details (as physcosamatic said).

You've got a good start, but the models look a little sloppy. Touching up some of the areas (redoing the black on the shoulderpads, another coat of thinned red on Shrike) will definitely do your figures some good.

They are obviously Blood Raven. Tho, Im still curious of the "renegade" part

About the paint job. Even if physcosamatic is a bit harsh, its not a good idea to put up pics of your army and then refuse the helpfull comments of improval. But sure, You leave the paint the way you want. There are so many exelent painters here on Dakka you sometimes lose perspective as to what is a workable paintjob. Heck, some people dont even coat their minis black before they start playing.
Good luck with the BR, one of my favourite chapters.

He's probably basing his army based off of the Blood Ravens that went heretic during the game "Chaos Rising"

SlowPoke you have the right idea because when i finished the game i saw a weird ending and though that if i make a renegade army i can make it fantastic.
I will soon be adding my Golden deamon images, although they are just basic ideas let me know what you think when i post them because it will be my first time, when I upload them I will put the adresse opn the website so you can rate them.

uh... OP, how old are you?

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Sorry OP, the painting looks like something my son could do... and he's 2. You need to look up some internet tutorials and learn some brush control. I'm being harsh but that's my honest opinion.

I'm sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you said here. Use something resembling proper spelling and grammar here, as it keeps people from thinking you're 10 years old.

On the topic of painting, these guys all look terrible. It looks like you dipped a tank brush into a paint pot and just slathered it onto your models haphazardly. Do you know anyone else who paints? Dad, big brother, etc? You really need some hands on teaching to get some better paint skills down. Right now everything looks like a gloopy mess. I don't mean to offend, but those models look absolutely awful. Just Google "Blood Ravens tutorial" and see what you can find. It will help a lot.

Your painting is bad. How new are you to the game/how old are you? We all started off bad, practice and try to improve.

The first step is painting inside the lines. If you have random splotches of red where they shouldn't be, fix it.
Next, make sure you have a set paint scheme. Different parts should be different colors, a weapon should have black, metal, red, etc. not a blob of bare metal or color.

Seconded. If you don't want critical eyes cast over your work then don't post pictures of them. Take what we say away with you, work on it and improve your skills. We all started somewhere after all...

i agree, you asked for opinions, you need to be able to take the good with the bad. I think your painting shows promise but you need a scheme. no matter how well you paint there will always be some way you could improve but thats life and to be honest if i could paint perfectly i would be abit upset because there would be nothing to work towards.

1: No one is posting negative comments, we're posting criticism, and ways to improve.

2: If you can't handle some criticism, this site isn't for you.

3: Work on your spelling and grammar. Using proper English is one way to earn some respect on here.

4: At the actual models, they need a lot of work. I'll use Corbulo as an example.

The red looks good, although it may need a wash. The white needs some shading or a wash, otherwise it looks unfinished, just like an undercoat. It may also help to attend a GW painting class on painting faces, they take a while to master, but the end result really adds to the overall finish of the model. Gold areas also need highlights, as brass just blends into the red. I suggest going over the brass areas with Burnished Gold.

Oh, and you may want to practise your photography skills, they're an essential for this site.

Tau Headhunter, why did you post here if you didn't want feedback?

If you're only seeking positive feedback, you ain't gonna get any cos quite frankly your painting is baaaaaad.

Feedback will help you improve.
You photos are blurry, you need to take with a steadier hand or possibly a higher shutter speed.

Corbulo above is neat enough, for a base coat.
Next:
1) finish detailing, eyes, chest symbols, gems.
2) highlights, probably 1, 2 highlights needed on the red.
3) Wash. I'd wash the red with a the standard red wash and the white with a weak badab black possibly.
4) Once you've washed the white you can highlight it
5) If they're renegades possibly dirty them up a little with more badab black.

Then base properly.

Indeed, if you use a white undercoat for the red it'll come out a lot brighter.

Also, photography wise: If you're using a generic digital camera and a paper light box (as I do), I find that covering the flash with a finger so that it is directed away from the model greatly decreases the glare from the models and allows people to see the colour clearer. An additional lamp like the one in your 'entire army' shot directed towards the paper at the back also helps.
Do bear in mind though, that I have no professional experience painting or taking photos using a light box - I experiment with various set-ups and use what works.

Also, make sure it is properly focussed before taking the shot: there's nothing worse than a blurry model.

A quick look at the articles system in the photography section:

I also think that you should add something to the description of your Tyranid photos: they are clearly not painted by you, and the description does nothing to tell me this.

Indeed, I very much doubt that you painted these 'nids. You also seem like a massive douche, judging from your previous posts.

I do believe that they should be a more muted red, something along the lines of Red Gore.
Also, make sure that their shoulder pads are either bleached bone or another suitably creamy colour.
Skull White and Blood Red are simply too bright for the blood ravens, IMO.

There is a fine line between constructive criticism and just being rude... and there are several posts in this thread wandering on the wrong side of that line.

Rather than purging the thread, I would ask that people from here on out try to keep in mind that comments when written down often look harsher than they are intended to be... Keep it civil and constructive.

Thats without clicking on the website link under his sig. OP, can I ask why you made a website called DakkaDakka when there is one already, and then used the DakkaDakka .gif as your own?

Seriously though, OP, how big a brush do you use? Use a smaller one. Once you have a small set of brushes, get a couple of spare models and practice painting flat areas without putting the paint where you don't want it. Just keep at it and don't get angry with yourself, just keep going.
