As posed in the thread regarding the next GW price increase:

Who is GW's market now-a-days as the next price increase would seem ill-advised in the current global financial environment? Not wanting rants about GW and prices, just interested as to if this latest price rise is the breaking point between buying and not buying.

thank you!

I think they have to market to single adults. Pre-Teens and teens don't have too much money. Kids will get bored & move on. University students like me are poor & short on time. As for married / single I think single people have more freedom with their money (No need to consult spouse) so it's a better target.

As a side not I find myself looking to ebay & trades / craigslist / dakka swap shop more than GW because I can't afford their prices.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

Its a bit more complicated than 'married' adults.. At every game store ive been at the PRIME customers are always "professional adults with disposable income".. IE good jobs such as doctors, lawyers, etc

You can have 4 of those kind of guys (or children of those kind of guys) and they'll spend more than 100 college students. College kids may play more but they do not buy ANYWHERE near as much.. You'll often not even see the above mentioned adults play a lot due to job and/or family, yet they certainly buy

I buy rarely from GW and mostly I buy WHFB for my D&D games. Their figures are nice for the most part but I can't afford $35 or $40 for a box of 19 orcs.

Your poll makes absolutely no sense but here is the asnwer to your question of "Who is GW's Market?"

Kids using the parents money to buy their crap.

Good luck with that nowadays.

GW's minis still compare well in price to toys. My son's godparents were quite happy to buy him an Ork Stompa for his last birthday, and I reckon they got at least as good value-for-money as they did with previous year's presents, like £60's worth of Star Wars Lego or Playmobil Knights.

That may be true for a stompa. But thats just a small portion of its intended use.

Kids (read: preteens and teens. GW actual target demographic) want armies they see in WD.

Add that to the cost of the stompa.

Still think they compare well in the price of toys?

They arent toys in the aspect of the kid can take them out of the box and play with them. They are models just like we all built when we were kids. The comparison to actual toys is a bad one IMO. Similar but very apples to oranges.

I'm pretty sure he has more money invested in Lego than in minis, despite having hundreds of Orks.

I'm in the Adult with kid buying catergory.

I'm actually okay with the current financial situation. Most of my major expenditures have dropped significantly - mortgage, energy and food shooping; I have even got my house re-banded and am paying less council [read local] tax. So what shall I spend my hard earned disposable income on - Warhammers of course!

As to the title, GW's main target market are [the parents of] 12-16 year olds because they are generally the new entrants to their business. But I also think that they increasingly market to long-time hobbyists, veterans if you will. They are showing a desire to recognise this with releases such as Space Hulk and the partnership with FFG.

I'm in the "parent with kids not buying" category. However I do buy for my kids. If that's what they want for a birthday present and its within my budget, that's what they get. Makes no difference to me if its a Mumak or a Playstation game or some other toy - as long as it is within budget, appropriate for their age and something they want. It's not really for me to make too many judgements about playability or value for money - after all my youngest son collects Topps' "Match Attax" cards for the Premier League. From my point of view they are horrible value for money, but he gets tons of fun out of the collecting and swapping and such, so who am I to argue?

The kids want LotR models because they look like the film they saw and they want Orks and Space Marines because they saw them in the shop that they bought the LotR models from and they looked "kewl". They are only 7 and 9 though. When it comes to them spending their own pocket money though its a different story. They buy nothing new and get their stuff second hand at the market or at shows. Fortunately they seem to have understood the true value of money that much!

Single adults are the market - they've got the piles of spendable cash that nobody else has.

I'd have to say, before being married and becoming a father of 6, I too had a pile of expendable cash. My concerns were PC gaming (games and the rigs to run them), paintball AND GW 40k. Now that Im married, I havent played paintball in about 6 years, I build PC's with work in mind (though I buy parts and build rigs that will play games for 5 years out), and very rarely do I buy GW, except via the Warstore or ebay (have been doing alot of scratchbuild though as my children seem to enjoy the models - they have a pile of 20 years worth of colllecting to choose from).

Somewhere in south-central England.

I was an Adult with Child buying and the new price increase has turned me into a Adult with Child not buying.

To be fair to GW, I had stopped buying most of their stuff long since. I was only buying Tyranid stuff because there is almost nothing to substitute for the official models. The price ammouncement just pushed me over the edge. I am now buying my Tyranid stuff from eBay for 45% off retail.

If new Tau stuff came out I would buy it if it was good, because there won't be a secondhand market.

All my SM is old or converted from historical kits. All my IG are going to be converted from historical kits.

To be clear, it is because I don't like the official models.

JHDD - I think you meant 'Roll over and fake a headache'. Turn over could just mean - you know, switch positions.

I myself am in the married with child group. Married for myself means lots of free time AWAY from the Mrs.

I believe the 'hilarious' Mr Hwang was alluding to the Dirt Track, most dangerous of places to attempt to park one's 'Pink Cadillac'.

To hopefully now return to the topic, I believe the title is misleading given the poll here, the demographic for this website is considerably older than the target audience I see getting swooped on in the local GW store, those are young kids, I mean 10 or so up to about 15.

In this helpful demonstration imagification, we can witness our stalwart Glorious Leaderbot transporting new recruits to the processing centre!

No, I certainly did not suggest that she shirk her wifely duties. I did suggest a significant "switch", tho not necessarily in positions. More like a mere couple inches round the curve...

Lots of free time away from the missus? You're divorced?
