Gordon Brown resigns. Amidst all this mess at least there is something positive happening, even if there are strings attached.
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I wish our overlord would (though that leaves us with Biden).
Gack. 2012 can't get here fast enough.

I always thought it was funny that people wanted Obama to die or whatever nonsense. Biden is far, far worse!
Personally, I see Biden as a sort of Dan Quail type figure- people won't want to assassinate the president for fear of the vice president gaining more power! An 'insurance' policy, if you will.

Yeah, and unfortunately if Biden and PresBO get hit than Nancy Pelosi is our new overlord.
Sumbitch. Guess we are (unfortunately) stuck with the lesser of 3 evils. LOL.

It could be even worst. PresBO could actually win a 2nd term.

Because Bush thought deficit spending for inane wars was just lolarious?
Not to mention accomplishing the rare feat of making half the world hate your collective arse.
Like how PresBO thinks the deficit increasing 2T dollars due to his "you must buy healthcare or pay a fine" is going to somehow improve the US.
1/2 the world hated Bush. 1/2 the US hates Obama.
I'd be more worried about my countries people liking me than I would the rest of the world.

I really don't think we need another thread about the relative pros and cons of former President Bush. Ta.
No real surprise that Brown is going, I'm quite dubious about how strong a Lab/Lib coalition would be, we need an election soon after to try and get a stronger Govt. in all likelihood... and then anything cold happen. Frankly if he can't deliver this time then Cameron's own position is somewhat in doubt, a lot of Tory doubters in the party were only keeping schtum as they were told/promised they'd get into power and if he couldn't deliver that against one of the most flailing ( and failing) administrations in recent memory...
.... which could be awkward as if the Tory party descend into "civil war" or fraction, whilst it would be kind of amusing to watch from certain perspectives, it would be bad for the country as our system requires the Opposition to be at least vaguely coherent and capable. Something the Tory party was for long periods of the last 13 years, singularly incapable of being/doing.
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Ho ho ho.
Will being a 'light weight' make it difficult for him to assume the 'lamp post' position? Doubt it.

I'm thinking we'll see another election inside of two years. Can't think being in power at the moment will do Dave and his Eton chums any favours. I don't think the Lib Dems will benefit from snuggling up to them either.

What we need is for them to call an election in 2 years after they reform the voting system. That is why I think Lib Dems will side with Labour, then decide to withdraw their support.

The funny thing is that if there were to be another election tomorrow I could see the Tories winning a majority. Nick Clegg has acted like a prostitute and a mercenary, pimping out his parties seats to the highest bidder, for me this has damaged his integrity and I imagine would swing a lot of the new liberal voters back to the torries if they were given a second chance to vote. Labour need time to re-organise, choose a new leader and sort themselves out for when the next election rolls around (which could be sooner than we all may think if the shakey Lib/Con coalition doesn't work out). My gut feeling is that the Libs have jumped into bed with the Tories as a quick way to power and a way to try and establish some mainstream credability whilst the Tories probably see them as a means to an end.
The Libs need to realise this is their one chance in a generation to get the FPTP system done away with.
Any other system at all will benefit them.
It's ludicrous that a party can garner 23% of the votes and 9% of the seats.
The problem is a lot of the Lib-Dem members are pretty lefty and may vote against any coalition from principle. Clegg needs to lay it on the line to them and say it's now or never.
I'm not convinced the Tories would increase their seats at the next election if it happens soon.
They spent £18 million and had the support of most of the press, and still only got 38% of the votes.
There's no way they can replace £18 million in a hurry.
Wow: Germany, France, and now the Ukl with "conservative" governments. Interesting that.
