So yeah, I bought a box of sanguinary guard, and I play space wolves and nids...

Some other useless crap I've bought.

SM command squad set
SM predator (Mine don't really kill that much..)
SM sniper scouts
SM venerble dreadnought (Although I make people reroll their damage results, they usually die from the same shot anyway..)

When I played CSM

CSM havocs (They suck)
CSM possessed (I never got a good special power roll)
CSM land raider (Cost too much and could never carry more than 10 dudes)
Abaddon (I never got to play him because of his cost and when I did play him, people avoided him)

So, what unneeded models have you bought?

5 drop pods. Worse buy ever. I wanted to try and all drop list and realized that I love mech so much better and drop pods are so ineffective after delivery.

Runnin up on ya.

@ OP. Sniper Scouts? Seriously? Mine kill more MCs than the rest of my force combined.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

I know that Coven armies are not popular these days.
However, a full squad led by a Homonculus mounted in a Raider can be a serious threat.

I bought 2 packs of Vespids from a game store that was going out of business. I realized later that you cannot play them without a strain leader, so I then I bought a full box of 6 metal vespids just to get the strain leader. They are now retired but still fill up space in my carrying case.

Yup played them with Uthan, and normal heamons.... I find that if I play them in a game were they could do something I am wasting points I could use to max out my raiders. If I play them in larger games they end up doing next to nothing.

The only time they have ever been useful is in a footsolgging list.

I bought a 2500 point necron army just because i wanted to have a necron army in case they ever get a new codex. theres $400 i'm not getting back :(

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

This thread is bound to go off-topic since you had to say why each of your purchases was unnecessary. It only leads to people coming here to say why you're wrong to say they're bad/useless.

The only things I've bought that were unnecessary have been things I intended to use but were later phased out of my army list. That doesn't mean I won't use them later, but for now they are a waste of money. Things like my non-autocannon heavy weapon csm (because all of my csm troops are using melta or flamers, and the only heavy weapons i use are on my havocs which have autocannons). Or a squad of loyalist marines that I intended to corrupt to use in my renegade army that I never used and instead went with chaos marines that I added touches of loyalist gear to (much easier to add things than take them off).

So, what unneeded models have you bought?

For example:

Havocs are amazing with autocannons or a combination of ACs and missile launchers. If you're only using oblits you are over spending for a low amount of shots. A mix of oblits and havocs is a great way to get both volume of shots and to ensure you're able to hurt anything with the proper weapon.

Land raiders are bad? Since when? They are amazing when in the proper army list with the proper equipment and the right infantry inside. There are many lists that are unable or have a very difficult time dealing with AV14 armor on all sides and that can be a huge advantage when used well.

A 4th Ed space marine army I considered starting during the do it yourself chapter time. Before I got past the 1200 pt area the 5th ed codex emerged changing everything I modeled, was pissed and reboxed the army in some plastic cases in the closet.

Another was my Ork army I got interested in. Bought about 60 boys or so back with they came in the 19 man boxes, mega armored nobs, 3 kans, a land raider to custom wreck into a battle wagon and kannon batteries. Ended up giving it to my friend since they just gathered dust.

Most of the purchases were made because I love building the models regardless of the army and then later I'd think about playing that army.

Daemonettes. It's a shame... they were the first thing I ever bought, and they're so weak that they can be easily taken out by half their points' worth of anything except footdar.
Against footdar, they're okay. Not great, but okay. How many people play footdar, again? Oh yeah. Daemonettes, my painting effort was wasted on you.

Broadside Battle Suit...two of them.

Krootox, wasn't even complete. Contained two left sides.

In hind sight, Leman Russ Exterminator for my SW. But I bought that years before the codex was updated.

Basically any model that ended up being obsolete from codex updates...Always end up thinking "Should've seen it coming".

Abaddon is not pretty at all. Figure wise or game wise. I dont think any Chaos Character HQ is worth anything. I have had all and sold them all except Ahriman which now is a stand in Chaos Sorcerer, used in fun games, or used as an objective marker.

Marnues Calgar. Too expensive for almost any list, and doesn't come with the proper honor guard set it. Gorgeous models that I would have loved to just have to paint, but a total waste of 35.00

The next one of you that posts about Wraiths being I2 and ignores the whip coils mentioned 2000 times a week, and I am going to devote the rest of my life to becoming an ancient space god to trick and enslave a race, and turn them into soulless T-100s to rid the entire universe of life. At that point it will have been worth it.
