Allow me to explain. Recently, I have come into a decent amount of money-enough to make some Forge world purchases. I know many people are fans of the Death korps of Krieg range, and I am no exception. My current good fortune has put me in the position to make a start on my own collection. However, the is a problem, and that is that I am a schoolkid. "So?" I hear you asking, "Whats the problem Fauntleroy, or are you just being stupid and wasting our time again?" Well, as I am sure you all know many hobbyists have fostered some form of hatred against playing aginst people under the age of 18. I can understand this in most cases, as some children have a tendency to be bratty, careless when handling other's models, or just plain annoying, but I would like to think I am not one of those people. Despite this, I don't want to give people more fuel for their dislike. Bare in mind that I am in no way 'rich'-'Mommy and daddy' aren't paying for it, as this is an army that would be built up painstakingly slowly, using christmas' as the main source of reinforcement. But I ultimately fear that collecting the army that I love would cast me in a bad light with older gamers. So the question is-is it wrong for kids to have a Forge world army? P.S: I apologise for my bad grammer.

It's not wrong for school kids to have Forge World. It's only wrong for you - Fauntleroy - to have Forge World.
Seriously though, if you show up at a store/event/whatever with a fully painted DKoK army, and don't sit there making 'pew pew' noises like a 6 year old, chances are people will forget your age and just concentrate on the cool army you've got.

Perhaps you're right, and I'm just being stupid and ignorant again. But what I worry about most is that people will see me as the archetypal rich kid-spoilt, rude, and arrogant-and in all honesty I don't think I'm any of those things. I get enough (sorry mods) crap as it is from people, and I don't need any more.
And rest assured that I do not imitate the sound of a gun firing, though I will admit to occasionaly making tank noises when moving.

Yes- it is very, VERY wrong.
Instead funds should be donated to my charity, details of which can be found at:
www.chibiwantsakoolkriegarmy.co. uk
you know that way you will hold the moral high ground.
Just not a cool krieg army!
If that is the army you have your heart set on take your time and invest in it, and I don't just mean financially.
Even if there are some grouches to begin with.
In a short while you will become accepted, and you won't always be a youngster anyway.

Who really cares if your toy soldiers a little bit better than theirs? really? Okay, if you turn up to game and scream 'OH LOOK HOW DID ALL THESE FW DKOK END UP IN MY ARMY CASE, OH THATS RIGHT I BROUGHT EM' Whilst fanning yourself with some twenties and fifties then the douche baggery is entirely yours.
if thats not the case then I expect most people will just ask about your stuff and leave it a that.

I wouldn't be able to. My shooting phases are abysmal. I make Orks look like marksmen extrordinare. I don't know anyone else who has the capacity to roll quite so many one's when shooting with a tactical squad at close range.

Take the time to paint them well and it'll prove there's more too them than simply having the cash to buy them. Someone who has all the expensive stuff but not the competency to assemble or paint it to a reasonable standard could make the impression you describe. But that could apply to anyone, not just younger players.

Just to have the correct spelling of the army name at least ONCE in this thread: It is "Death Korps of Krieg" (not Kreig). (pronounced creek, not crike).
That said, a well composed, well painted and well played IG army will certainly earn you respect whatever the age.

How you act as a person will make people think that way, or not think that way. And if they do think that you are spoiled, but you are not, and you know your not, who cares what they think.

People should judge you for your personality/behaviour, not for the army you have. Otherwise they likely are dorks and you shouldn't bother with them anyway.

Go for it, the cost of the army will give you the incentive to paint it well. If others can't understand you want to take your time and build up a great looking army, they aren't worth bothering with. There are a lot of older guys out there who aren't smart enough to go their own way, so at least you are beaking the mould with the cookie cutter cadians with alternate heads.
Good luck with it, and make sure you check out the forums for hints and tips for dealing with resin, as it is not as straight forward as plastic/metal. Hope to see it in the gallery as soon as you get it started

Out of intrest, do you pronounce 'Korps' as 'corps' or 'core'? I have always pronounced it the former, but some people disagree.

"Korps" is pronounced the same way as "corps" - IE the p and s are silent. The real question about this has nothing to do with your age though - are you a good enough painter to do these models justice, and do you think you'll still want to keep this army going year after year? This kind of project would take a lot of dedication over time, which is something that not all of us have, myself included. If you think you're up for it though, go for it!

I think there are only two questions to think about:
- Is working with resin a problem for you?
- Do you think you might need the money in the future? I don't what amount you are talking about, but it doesn't matter. For paying studies stuff, a driving license...
If both answers are cathegorical NOes, then go for it.

This.
I begun my Cadian 82nd Special Tasks Group(a combined arms force wherein everyone is wearing respirators, every team has a Chimera, etc) years ago. I'm still working on the modeling aspect and haven't even really started painting anything other than a few test models here and there.
Forge World is not something you want to rush. If you're going from assembly to painting in anything faster than a week--you're going too fast.

It takes roughly a day of prep work, and another day of soaking just to clean the parts--even on something as small as infantry.
If you're rushing it, you're doing it wrong. Seriously.

Out of curiosity Kanluwen, what do you soak your models in for the cleaning process? But yes, I agree that resin should be worked on very deliberately (and transported even more so, damn fuggin lasguns, always snapping off ).
To the OP, I would not actually look at a "kid" with FW with more animosity. These days, the cost of Forge World is not much more than the plastic models, and what truly determines whether I see my opponent as a spoiled brat is their behavior and the condition of their models. If you've taken the time to properly assemble (or gasp! even paint) your Death Korps, I could only look on you with respect and feel joy at facing the best-looking model range in all of miniature gaming.
