After playing with my nobs it has become apparant that using dice, or the GF9 wound markers just don't cut it when your in a mass combat. Often you can't tell which model the wound was on, the dice fall off or the the GF9 blood droplets fall off.

So I was thinking a good solution would be to make something that can "hang" on the models. You know like a hooked piece of plastic with a red circle to indicate a wound or something?

I did a search but couldn't find any body that makes such a thing.

Does anyone know of such a product being made?

If not any ideas about how to make something myself.

On my Tyrgons, I stick rippers on the base. When I lose a wound, I remove a ripper. Simple.

That's a great idea, and it looks like it would work well on a model with a huge base like the trygon.

However, using something like that on 1" nob bases wouldn't work because it would be too unwieldy to try and get your fingers down in between models to remove stuff off of the bases.

I am looking for something that I can just "hang" on the model. That way it is easy and quick to add wounds and also easy to see.

I seem to remember in an old issue of WD, one of the writers commented that he used small brass rings that he hung on the horn of said creature.

Probably work

Disclaimer: I've never done this before.

Maybe run a paperclip or length of wire up through a hole in the base and hang something lightweight off of it to represent the wounds? Should be stiff enough that whatever you hang off of it should be fine as long as it's light. Something that a guy did at 'Ard Boyz was bring notecards describing each of the guys in his unit. he tracked wounds as marks on the notecards. Since you only take whole models and you're describing each differently kitted guy separately, there's no real room for error. You can also print out on the notecards and make them look orky and cool.

Yeah I thought of marking wounds on my army list but I kind of decided against it, thinking I could run into TFG that would accuse me of cheating or some such thing. This is why I am wanting to use a physical marker.

I like the brass ring idea that filbert brought up...gonna explore that.

What about a plasticard piece with some marks (SKULLZ!) put under the model's base?

For example, a circle as big as the base, and some part out of the circle shape, where the markings would be done.

I guess It might be a bit boring when moving minis, but it's the first idea that has come to my mind xD

you could give each of them a trophy rack on their back, and put 2 skulls on a pike on each. make the skulls removable to mark the wounds.

I have seen this used on many occasions and it works just fine. Any model with multiple wounds generally has something readily available to hang things off of it.

How about a ring that you can put over the mini.

Haha, ring toss it.

When you take a wound, drape little red circles around his head.

The brass ring idea is easy and available from home depot, loews, and home improvement stores on the dirt cheap.

I use bone dice, seems kinda fitting, and most people do not have them. Also they stand out from my regular dice so I do not pick them up and roll them.

DING DING DING DING DING!!!!

We have a winner, easy, cheap, quick, and the red ones would be easily identifiable.

Thank you very much. Gonna head to wallymart and see what they got.

I've got some beads at home I was going to use for my WFB dwarves jewelry, maybe I can incorporate them somehow.......interesting..... very interesting.

p.s. I also like the trophy rack idea, but am too lazy to implement that right now. I have enough stuff to paint!

Yep, every time I see them at the FLGS I wish someone would make those types of bases for 40k

How about magnets?

You could insert a maget into the back of a new miniature quite easily or in to the detail. Wound markers could then be suck onto the back of the mini once painted and easily seen. Markers could then be either painted metal, magnets or whatever you want.

For a mini that you have already painted, stick the largest flat magnet that you can fit under the base and you can then stick metal/magnetic markers around base.

Just be careful with most tape measures. They're made out of metal and will stick
to the model (I have some magnetized terrain that does this.

I made one as an experiment a few years back... too much of a pain to do for everything, though, so these days the prototype is used as a turn counter.

I had a toothpic "Pike" on the base of my ogres and a skull bead I would place on the spike for every wound. You could do a back banner pole and either place or remove beads as they take wounds for smaller troops like nobs

Thats not where I got them, but those are the beads I used. I found mine on a cheap necklace at a dollor store around halloween

Skull beads are cool. They just get all over the place and he mentioned Nobz specifically, so
it might get really messy.

What size/shape base does heroclix use?

It's around 30-35mm, from memory.

But they're not a simple numbered base. The bases have the model's stats on them for their different characteristics. When you turn the base a click for damage, not all characteristics actually go down each click.

So they would potentially be usable for games like 40K, aside from being a little too big for normal models and a little too small for everything else, and would require repainting of the numbers.

That's what I use on my IG heavy weapon team bases. I have a small stake which I place a skull on when it takes a wound. When it takes a second one, the base is removed.

You can get plastic curtain rings from DIY shops. Cheaper than brass rings and less likely to scratch. You could spray them red (or any other colour) with car paint cheaply (or Army Painter, less cheaply) if you wanted them to stand out more.
