Hello!
I'm completely new to Warhammer/minatures all-together and have just posted a few things on here to get me started.
Everyone seems very nice and helpful so far
Still not absolutely positive which to choose between atm...Was looking into Witch Hunters; Daemonhunters; Eldar; and CSM...but it's so hard to choose!
So far I have a lot of money to input into Warhammer and don't know what to do with it...hehe.

Thanks for reading!
Emily

EDIT: Although I like the look of Eldar I have decided to cross them out because I want something simple to start out with; Thank you everyone who commented on them!

Eldar was my original top choice but heard from many people it was too difficult for someone who has never played Warhammer before...but good luck with yours!!

Eldar is some what a little tricky at first but they are really good once you get the hang of it. Plus I love the way the models look, lots of detail if you like painting.

Its true, you have to have a plan with Eldar and stick to it, and hope it doesn't fall apart in turn 2. SM of any kind is what everyone gives out as a starter army, minimum amount of models, easy to paint, very strait forward, best (imo) basic troop in the game. I've always always like SM, so just about every army I've ever had has been some variation of.

Welcome to Dakka! Ignore what armies that people say are strongest and just find the one you think is the most fun. Orkz aren't the best Codex, but I have more fun with them then with any other army in the game. How much fun you have isn't necessarily wrapped up in wins, but how much you can relate and get into your army.

Welcome aboard!

Iron Warriors aren't the force they were in previous editions of the rules but have a relatively simple paint scheme (always handy for your first army ) and a fairly forgiving playstyle.

One thing to bear in mind from your original list is that (as you may have seen in the news and rumours section) Daemonhunters/Grey Knights are due a new codex and model range fairly soon, so if you can hang on for a few months - perhaps use the time to play some practice games and get some scenery together - you may find a real gem of an army coming up!

All the best with whatever you do,

Have a hello from New Zealand!

Eldar are pretty cool, worth a deeper look if you are up for lots of painting!

Welcome to dakka! Nice to see some women into this hobby too.
The beards are getting a bit overwhelming here lol

As far as a newbie choices of army go.....you've just listed some of the most difficult armies ruleswise to play! lol.

Personally I would suggest CSM as the "easiest" option. A lot of customisable pieces in there and you don't have to go down a set "path".

Oh, that was a bad pun on the Eldar....

Welcome again.

Witch Hunters/Daemon Hunters are going to get a new codex soon, if rumors are to be believed, so you might want to hold off there as they are both going to change quite a bit when that happens.

And, of course, welcome to Dakka Dakka!

Right now the chaos marine dex is crap but I love my army too much to play anything else.

Why not Chaos Daemons? their getting a update.

But witch hunters with Guard or Space Marine allies would make a great first army.

Welcome to dak dak¡ Whichever army you choose make sure it is something you like and can realte to as JEB said. Personally i have fun playing all three of my armies(Thousand Sons, DH(pure Grey Knights), and Orks). I also like my armies more for the models themselves more than gameplay.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

Grey knights 3000

Welcome to Dakka!

As people have said, there's not really any team that's 'better' than any other, it all depends on strategy really.

My first WH40K models were some Thousand Sons... I still have 'em, and I laugh when I look at them since the paint isn't really in the stripes on their helmets, but pretty much... well, it's messy.

I'd suggest you choose an army which isn't too complicated to paint. However I wouldn't suggest Space Marines, too many use them (but they're probably easiest to paint due to their large areas).

Have you considered Necrons? They don't require a ton of different colours, and are pretty good for training to paint on as well as modeling stances. They're also fun to play with, several special rules that are unique. However their model range is pretty limited.

Iron Warriors... Can't remember if those are Chaos or Space Marines... Between Chaos and Space marines however, I'd suggest Chaos. They're basicly space marines with a ton of extra stuff. (Besides they are much cooler than the Space Marines dull armours!)

Welcome aboard! That said, all of the armies available can be complicated or easy, depending on how you go about setting it up. I would recommend going with whichever one catches your fancy! Good Luck & have fun!
