How do you play a drop pod?
Only the hull counts as the vehicle, doors are difficult terrain.
The doors count, but I can move my own guys over it.
The doors count, nothing can move over them.
The doors are ignored for every aspect of the game.

Just curious here. Based on the three options above (or a fourth). Feel free to explain your line of thought.

Know that I have no pre-conceived notions on this.

The implications of the doors as part of the model come in most when deciding if it can contest objectives, or if they are general cover, etc.

NOTE: No FAQ handy, maybe it is in there?

Here's another option. Leave the stupid doors up. They don't count for anything and just clutter the battlefield when they're down. Allow LOS to be traced through the footprint of the pod and grant cover/obscured status.

I play D as well. I have that the doors do absolutely nothing.

I actually have my Doors Magnetized, so when they land, the doors literally Assplode off the pod and conveniently land 900" away!

Wasn't this FAQ'd somewhere, or did a redshirt just tell me it was? But yeah, I play it that the hull is the vehicle, doors just look cool (I like 'em down or crashed into the side of a building depending on placement...makes the battlefield feel all dynamic and stuff) but don't do anything, LOS can be traced through the hull with appropriate cover saves, and the weapons are useless until they fix my BS2 BT drop pods. lol

What about nid pods?

I use sphere's as my pods, they don't have doors. Since GW really didn't clarify, we play as you can't draw LOS through my pods.

I then use the pods to screen my MC's for the next round of assault

I know I am "skirting" the rules, but its legal as of right now as far as I can tell.

I do this but the doors obviously can count for providing cover through blocking LoS.

Option Å: Doors remain shut. No LOS can be drawn through the pod. Pod weapon fires as if doors were open.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

I voted D, although technically I play it halfway between A and D - I play that the doors do not count as any sort of movement-inhibiting terrain, but can still cause a model to be partially obscured and that therefore you can obtain a cover save from them. Of course, this assumes the model has been constructed so that the doors are open mid-game...

Really, though, it's one of those things worth talking about with the opponent pre-game, as some people model their DPs differently.

I've always used style D for my drop pods. LOS through the hull itself for cover etc kinds of saves (makes dread drops lots more fun) but the doors to me are made to be walked out on so if anything you could argue they kill difficult terrain with how they slam down but thats getting too damn picky. Plus it just looks damn cool when you place a pod and the inside is detailed just like the outside since it seems like 99% of pods out there are sealed shut permanently anywho.

lol I've always considered that if people glue their hatches shut the marines inside can never deploy and the gun never has LoS. At that point though you do benefit from AV12 non-open topped so it's a good trade off right? ....

I doubt you'd find someone who wanted to have the doors play a significant role in game. Are your troops going to trip over the doors? Probably not. No difficult terrain.
