Its been a year since this was asked, "Which current or dropped 40K Army listed here is your Favorite?" Figured it would be interesting to see if the average Dakkites taste has changed.

Please, do not vote simply based on which army has the strongest current codex, but also base your vote upon look of models, back story, price, the Armies playstyle, ect, ect,......

Please post why you voted the way you did. Doing this helps to keep the poll in the recent threads forum so that we can get a better idea of who plays what and why they play them.

Codex: Chaos Space Marines wrote:If you seek an army of heroes look away, for Chaos Space Marines are the darkest of villains.

Long ago, all of humanity's guardians, the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, were brothers. They were all recruited from the greatest warrior peoples, all were genetically enhanced to superhuman levels, all were trained to the highest degree in the arts of war and equipped with the finest weapons. They were united in loyalty to the Emperor of Mankind and had marched beside him on his Great Crusade to bring long-isolated human worlds into the protection of the Imperium. It was a Golden Age of great deeds and unsurpassed heroism. Then came the apocalyptic civil war known as the Horus Heresy. The Imperium was sundered, every world and every institution felt the pain. At the centre was an act of betrayal that remains unforgiven ten thousand years later.

Fully half the Adeptus Astartes renounced their allegiance to the Emperor. The Chaos Gods promised immortality and the ability to indulge the Traitor Marine's deepest, darkest desires. They would be beyond punishment, with the universe theirs for the taking. Chaos beckoned and the legions of the Lost and the Damned followed.

They were defeated, though, by an act of supreme sacrifice on the part of the Emperor and the unflinching loyalty of their erstwhile brothers. Now and forever and they had become Chaos Space Marines, loathed and feared as heretics and traitors throughout the galaxy.

Worse still, the path to immortality offered by the Chaos Gods led through a living hell of death, mutation and madness. Daemonhood awaited them at the end of the road, followed by an eternity as slaves to darkness.

Still they fight on, unrepentant of the choices they have made, wholly committed to the path they now tread for good or ill. Harnessing their bottomless well of bitterness and hatred, with grim resolve they will wage war without end on the Emperor until the Imperium is cast down and the Dark Gods rule over all.

Had to play them after reading that.

Dark Eldar.
I personally actually like the models, what with the spiky bits and Raiders.
The fluff is not all that spectacular, just pillaging the villages and ravaging the women, really.
The price is pretty abysmal with the fact that most things have to have Raiders with them, but...
I do enjoy the fast playstyle.

Tau, Because of how much I like the models, the challenge of playing them well, and because they are in many ways a combination of the British and Japanese mindset in a futuristic India.

I just find the concept of Tau interesting.

Tau are still my favorite, fluff/modelling/game-play wise. The models were enjoyable to paint and I get a lot of compliments on my army. They are not easy to win with, but when I do I feel like a tactical genius.

@1hadhq- Wanted to see which individual armies are currently favoured as opposed to a more general and possibly slanted "us vs them" set up. Also, Multiple answers would skew the results.

Skew?
A decision between equally loved codices skews the result.

Lacking any favourite overall armylist as I like them equally.

Maybe I favor IG more in bigger games, Apoc...

^@1hadhq-Same reason they are supposed to let you vote only once in an election. If you can vote more than once it slants the results when determining a single favorite or a winner as it were.

So far the early results are interesting in how the votes differ from last year's poll. Though, some of the difference may be due to my posting a more thourough list of armies.

Our President called chicago home before winning the election. While the quote,"Vote early, vote often", may have started in England or New York during the 1800's, Chicago is accredited for making the quote famous in the 1900's.

I'm gonna vote Orks though, because even though Space Vikings in Space are awesome, Space Chavs are even more awesome!

In my heart of hearts, my original Eldar are still my favorite, but only by a whisker over my steadily-growing Guard. I rank my armies like this:
. Eldar ****
. Guard ****
. SM/CSM ***
. Sisters/Inq **

Eldar are still tops, mirrored by my minis purchases. My big gripes are that there's no "proper" Biel-Tan build in the current Codex, and that nobody's addressed the sheer stupidity of squishy Guardian spam even being possible at all. The Falcon not being Transport, lack of Wave Serpent being Assault Transport, and non-Rending Shuricats don't help, either. GW fixes most of these, throws a bone with Apoc Superheavies / Titans and they'll get some serious cash out of me. In the mean time, I'm still awed by the 2E Goodwin sculpts, and glad they're generally playable -- no surprise, given that I've got practically the entire Codex twice over...

Guard is the new hotness, because I've always loved armor, and the new Guard allows me the option to field a lot of armor. Plus, it lets me do a lot of scratchbuild modeling work that would otherwise go toward scale armor. If GW hadn't screwed the pooch with the details of Platoons in the current Codex, Guard probably would have taken the ring from Eldar. Like my Eldar, these are also largely 2E models of proper size and heft. Good stuff.

SM & CSM are kinda cool to me, with a lot of work to be done, further tempered by the amount of rework also needing to be done to make things right. Still, I've got a solid go-forward anti-obsolescence plan that'll allow me to play several Codices WYSIWYG, so it's a matter of time. This is all modern plastic, so it matches and is scaled properly vs my Eldar & Guard.

Sisters & Inquisition have always been on the sideline, smaller armies more for "flavor and spice" than anything else. Again, all great-looking (Jes' Sisters, Bedford's ISTs) metal, and properly-scaled.

For me its Tyranids. I love building, painting and playing them. Then Dark Eldar. Then its Iron hands. The only space marine chapter to hold my interest. Tau then followed by Imperial Guard.

I went with Eldar. I really like the whole "doomed race" aspect of them. The story of their fall, and the creation of Slaanesh are cool. And I respect the fact that although they are doomed they still fight on and try to do what they can to keep chaos from over running the galaxy.

They have some of the coolest models and they represent probably the only civilization, besides maybe the Tau, that isn't highly oppressive to it's citizens.

I have always loved 3 races.

First and foremost, Chaos. The whole story of the HH and the fall of the various Primarchs and Legions is a fantastic tale. The Thousand Sons are the most badass and awesome looking Legion, loyalist or heretic, and Tzeentch is the most interesting and compelling of the Gods.

Next its the Orks. I love their complete lunacy, comedy and their natural strength and tenaciousness. If I wasnt so taken by the look of a Thousand Sons, I may very well have made an Ork army for my return to 40k. This flow chart pretty much sums up why they rule: http://www.gamereplays.org/community/uploads/post-112994-1248719783.png

And lastly, the Tyranid. I loved the Alien movies as a kid, and i love the design of the models. The look of a sea of smaller creatures with huge behemoths wading through them, an unending tide, relentless in its quest to consume all. Its just brilliant. They are one of the few races that look good however bright and colourful you make them.

Black Templars, Dark Angels, Space Marines, Space Wolves and Blood Angels being split rather harms the Space Marine totals. They have 16 combined.

@Nitros- You trying to push a double standard by in essence attempting to say that all of the variant chapters and the Ultra-marines are the same.

The reason given for why each of the Non-Ultra Marine("Non-Codex") SM armies has their own codex is because they are seperate and not the same thing as the Ultra's.

If I was posting a poll about limiting the PotMS for the Codex SM land Raiders, I would hear the argument that the other chapters would not be affected by the rule the because they are different and should not be counted together.

You can't have it both ways.

This poll is about which of the 40K armies created as a stand alone army and was supported by GW is your favorite.

The only army that might be missing is the Kroot Mercenary list but I couldn't justify their inclusion for the same reason as I left out Harlequins. They currently exist in a current codex.
