I went Eldar. Personally I think the list is too large and all the SM's should be just SM's. What chapter you choose doesnt really matter. Chaos has one option yet there are 5 different ways to build them. 2 Eldar choices? Seriously?
Anywho... I like Eldar. There smooth, curved armour and the fact that their troops don't all look the same. Its a pity most of their units still look the same after all these years. They need a serious upgrade (not as much as DE though).
Many years back I started with SW (they had just been released) but quit the game all together. These days I cant get back into them. The thought of having a SM army when every other man and his dog has one just doesn't do it for me.

I use to be a huge BA fan in 3rd edition but I quit around the beginning of 4th and around the end of 4th I started playing again and I bought a DE army off of ebay or something for 80 dollars that had a pretty good sized army and ever since I've been in love with DE. I've tried to rekindle my love for BA but I always keep coming back to DE, sure they have one viable list competivetly but I just love the fluff and the faces of my opponents as I deploy my army.

Much as I love my Necrons and Thousand Sons, I had to vote Eldar. The remnants of a dying race, doomed by their own doing just gels with me. Plus, one of the most interesting parts of the Warhammer universe to me is manipulation - whether by Tzeentch's great plan or, in this case, the way the Eldar Farseers gently nudge events to ensure that they survive, uncaring of however many others die. Case in point: the second war for Armageddon

OK, Passed a hundred votes and there are still a few suprises. Currently the leaders are:
1)IG
2)Orks
3)Tyranids
4)Tau
5)Chaos SM's
Keep Voting and please post why you chose your favorite army. Doing so will help everyone understand the poll results.
Now to my favorite four armies:
1)Tau- For reasons already stated up-thread.
2)Eldar- Fast army with cool abilities and gorgeous models. Enjoy the complexity of making the themed armies work. Playing Eldar is like dancing, Fun when you have the tempo but will get your toes stepped on if you can't keep the rythm.
3)GreyKnights- Because the Models are what SM's should either look like or evolve out of. I like the back story and think there is much room for an expanded Grey Knight/Inquisition Deamon fighter storyline.
4)Toss-up between IG and Orks. The Orks are just plain silly fun but the IG takes the lead by being an army that fights like it was designed to do, for the vehicles, and because of the model variety.

Yeah lost and the damned was fun whilst it lasted. Had potential. I know a lot of grey knights players who loved fighting them as it fit them so well for enemies.

I love Chaos Space Marines. Good imagery, able to make use of tons of great kits, central bad guys in what to me (YMMV, etc) is the central story of 40K, the Horus Heresy/Long War, the struggle of humanity vs. itself.
I love the Imperial Guard. In a universe of superhuman warriors, alien killing machines and so on there's an appeal to the relatively normal guy with a rifle trying to win.
I love the Orks. An in your face, tough, ramshackle tide of aggression.
Which is why my favorite army is Lost and the Damned. You get some CSM and the story, you get guys who are like guardsmen just on the other side, you get the madness of the Orks. It's the perfect blend for me, and allows for a huge variety in focus, theme, etc.
I also like Space Marines, both regular vanilla-type chapters and some with more barbaric leanings like Space Wolves and White Scars.
I like Eldar, DE and Tau in gameplay senses, don't care as much background-wise.
Nids and Necrons, like some of the figures but can't connect with them.
I also like the WH/DH, tie in with some of the other likes, especially armies that are done as the good guy mirror to LatD type forces that are more inquisitors with some attached craziness and inducted forces as opposed to straight sisters or gk builds.
