Started building a Lizzie army with the anticipation of 8th. however, not sure if i can handle the price tag. we're into the 8th ed cause the other 7 needed fixing and GW doesn't know how to keep it in their pants. What happened to the $50 pricetag? it's a new edition, not a new game. Break it down to me. thanks.

what i'm saying is previous edition rulebooks were 50 bucks. why the 75 dollar price tag. and has nobody else said WTF when they saw it.

Edit: and i'm also saying for the many of you that ARE buying the book why don't you guys have issues with the price tag? if you guys can "break it down" to me then i wouldn't have a big problem with it and dish out the cash. the post wasn't that vague.

Because the book is ENORMOUS and gorgeous. 528 full color pages.

Seriously, go into a game store and ask to see it. The book is worth every penny.

I'm cringing. I'll have a hard time justifying it to my spouse, which means I should probably have a hard time justifying it to myself, but there's not any consideration. I will be picking it up.

Luckily my wife and I have separate play money accounts and she doesn't ask(I don't ask what she spends on what she buys, so there's an agreement). That said, I was gonna hold out and get it online cheaper until 1. I saw it and HAD to ensure a copy, and 2. my FLGS owner was nice enough to let us sit down and read it fully without bothering us. I figured I should support him a bit.

Its as simple as this.

You pay $75 for the rulebook.

OR

You stop playing.

Gonna by FLGS too. I wouldn't be playing if it weren't for those guys.

OR you buy the starter box, sell a boatload of minis, and make profit and make due with your small rulebook.

I can sell that plan to my wife a HELL of a lot easier.

I wonder if the new starter box with HE and Skaven is going to have a mini rule book like BFSP.

Maybe I can get it for cheap like I did with last edition...

The thing about the hardback books is that I don't want an art book I want the rules I need to play. If other people like that stuff then great, but I don't want to pay for it. I want to spend the money on things like you know ACTUAL MODELS.

That's, like, your opinion dude!

Some people like the fluff and background, but if you like to just play the game to just play it, that's you. I could just as well say your a lifeless husk who only cares about winning.

We all CAN'T say we didn't expect this. GW books are overpriced as it is, THIS book should be $50, and the former ones should be $30-40 dollars, while the codex a flat and definite $20

because you WANT to pay for a bunch of silly fluff so intermingled with the rules you have to spend every game flipping thru those 500 pages to figure out how to play.

but not really.

I'll be buying both box set and the main rulebook.

I use the small book for tourneys and the large one for reading at home.

Your last two posts are a great way to lock a thread.

On the same note, if GW's editors had half a brain, they wouldnt create a product that requires 3 different page references to find a single unit's rules.

As popular as the mini-books have been, I have to imagine it will be present in the boxed set. I may get both, but I'll certainly get the large book. For those wanting a good deal, I'm guessing the boxed set w/model sell off/trading will be a good route to take.

I've settled on the fat rulebook. One, I've skipped the past 2 editions of Fantasy so having all that art and fluff will be nice. it'll feel fresh to me. but for you cats that's always been playing for a bit, i'd get the starter for the book and sell off the minis too. Unless i played either of the armies of course.

On a similar note. Will battle for skull pass boxes in future have the new rulebook in slim format? As I'm planning to do a dwarf army anyway it would be a good way to save on cash if it is getting updated.

2ish points:

1. A big rule book is not necessarily a good rule book. It's harder to flip through and find the rules. Plus, I doubt the fluff has changed much since 7th edition. Why am I paying an extra $25 for fluff I already know.
2. The option is not to either buy it or stop playing, but rather buy it or become that jerk who plays but doesn't own the rulebook. As much as I hate that guy, I may be taking his place until the boxed set comes out.

From the GW hype preview(that was taken down) for the new starter:

Meanwhile, if you like the Battle for Skull Pass boxed game (and who wouldn't with all those Goblins and Dwarfs) then it only seems fair to point out that once the last few remaining copies are gone they're gone, and they're never coming back! Pick one up while they last.

So no, as that would require them to reprint it(thus negating the need for a new starter in the first place).

And yours aren't? Your saying I'M wrong because I like the fluff in the book. Maybe you should think about what your saying before you spout nonsense such as that.

---------------------

Honestly, this is a HUGE book, and for a reason. I believe a BOLS review of it said there was around 300 PAGES of background. That's HUGE. There must be advancements in the storyline in 8th edition that nobody has had the chance to read yet.
