Has anyone here used it?

I have been tempted too but have heard some bad things about the place (mainly involving mods/admin and their buddies being able to rip people off at will) but to be fair if it was like that then surely it wouldnt still be going?

On a person by person basis, it is not too terribly different from the Dakka Dakka swap shop. In fact, you will find that many people post on all three major trade forums (Rogue Market, Bartertown, and Dakka Dakka).

But of course the major difference is that Rogue Market and Bartertown are both billed as trade websites. The Dakka member MagikalMemories (did I spell that right) is one of the people behind Bartertown.

Yeah I have used Bartertown a few times with no probs at all.

Doesnt the dude behind Rogue Market post here too? (as "roguemarket")

Precisely sleazy.. the owner of Rogue Market posts here as RogueMarket.. and as far as I know, the site was upgrading and at the same time, there was some staff turnover.

I also am one of the Admins on Bartertown, as is MM..same ID on most trading sites for me..

Its been hit or miss for me. Rated on use to gaining items and having problem with trades, from top to bottom ists been for me Bartertown first, Dakka second, Rougemarket last.

Hmm...cannot say anything bad or good with the other sites, as I have dealt with only DakkaDakka as a Warhammer 40k trader/buyer/seller.

Yes.

Bartertown is the best. Even if you should have problems, the staff is there for you to help, hell, other traders are there for you- whether you had someone screw up, or you've screwed up.

Dakka comes next- they're still ona learning curve, but they definately have stepped up in the last 9 months.

RM is last. Unresponsive to problems. Even when you have one and post it in the bad trade area, not much hapens, no followup. I've had exactly 1 out of 3 good trades there. Cant say I'm impressed.

I have used all three aforementioned websites. So far I feel that the best for me is Bartertown however I haven't had any problems on any of them. Barter town would be my choice simply because people have been on there and made many trades thus there are quite a few people with lots of reputation so if you follow the rules trades almost always go smoothly.

agreed. i tend to take trade initially started here or at rogue trader and ask them if they're on bartertown. i'd rather do the trades there officially and keep my references all in one spot.

@warboss Thats actually a brilliant idea since bartertown has the stats for everyone and as someone previously said here, most people that post on Dakka or Rogue Market post on all 3 to get to the largest audience.

Please do note, though, that OFFSITE trades do NOT qualify you for a Bartertown Reference.

If a trade starts here on Dakka, or over on RM.. then for you to move it half-way thru the deal to BT violates the rule for a BT reference. Dakka and RM both have reference systems and should be used for trades from that site.

ok, noted. what about trades that are posted in multiple places and you simply refer the person who sees the ad here on dakka to bartertown for the same ad? if someone just pm's you here with interest about a cross-posted ad and you tell them to take it to bartertown before discussing any details, do you consider that moved half way?

As long as there is a ad to reference on BT it should be fine.

We mainly implemented that rule to prevent Reference Padding, as well as (in the past) we had some folks leaving Bad Refs for a non-BT transaction.

cool. that's pretty much the only thing i've done. i tend to post the same ad in a whole bunch of different places and then just refer those who respond on any of them to b-town if they're a member.

Not I. I'm "established" on Btown, so there's no reason for me starting over on a new site.

I mostly see Americans chatting about these two sites, do they have Europeans trading there as well?

And before someone says 'go look' I can't, work blocked for my sins.

If Folks in EU trade I may have to take a look when I get home tonight, getting fed up with ebay now, even with a plus 1K rating. Selling and buying there has become a chore.

I know Bartertown has some EU traders. Couldn't say how many but I have traded with folks in the UK and elsewhere on BT.

while there are europeans trading at pretty much all the sites mentioned in this thread (usually about a quarter to a third of threads on average), i'd say warseer.com's trading forums have the largest percentage of any of them. while i haven't looked in their forums for a while, they easily used to get over 50% of the sale/trade/wanted threads from the EU (vast majority from the UK). IIRC, they don't have a feedback system per se like bartertown/dakka/roguemarket.

Bartertown has several overseas members. A lot of issues do occur when trading to a couple countries, Italy being a big one. However, UK traders are frequent.

I've been using bartertown for friggin ever, even before they had any kind of rating system, and I've only ever had two or three bad experiences with traders.

Rogue market seems to have issues out the wazoo. I've had a few gaming buddies that traded there in the past and it only took a couple bad experiences for them to stop cold turkey.

I'd definitely recommend Bartertown for trading - their staff are bulldogs when it comes to tracking down the bad guys and helping people out! (And yes, that is meant as a compliment!)

I know I've wished I'd started there a few times over now!
