I like the format. Reminds me of GW's GT system.
Sometimes Wacky missions are fun to play and turn into some interesting games.
I like the inclusion of theme as an opportunity for people to really share some cool stuff.
And I like the opportunity to play some unique armies instead of expecting every army I face to be a Metalist clone of some Blog's downloaded wisdom.
It is good to know the GT format that basically gave birth to the large-scale tourney events is still alive and well!

I'm on the fence over bringing my optimized Loganwing and just screwing comp or taking the gimpiest of all gimp lists EVAR and getting max comp.
Either way, I'd be all for getting a game in. If all the internet celebs show up Friday we could do our own Whisky Challenge

You know despite the comp system trying to do away with people taking competitive lists, this will be a very competitive tournament, just by the sheer number of top tier players in one tournament.

No, old school GTs did not use subjective comp scoring. They used objective comp scoring based on percentages and numbers of units, with only one or two of the items being subjective. Your entire comp system seems to boil down to your personal opinions about what you think makes a good/hard/soft army. Count me out.

@ Don you have been playing this game as long as I have (I remember the old lizard guard you had), but this is where you are not 100 correct. There was time that GW had matrix’s to limit wargear and units, but there were several years they did not have published comp. Back with Joe Krone and Jason Buyaki used to run the events there we never a published comp. Back in 2003 when i won best 40k Tactician i got boned on the overall, because they did not like my comp. I took Saim-Hamm back in 3rd edition with only 2 troops, but the force org. was different back then where it had 6 for org slots for fast attack. So i used all 6 slots for bikes and vypers. That army had a lot of composition and theme but the judges did not have a structured composition system so they give me a low score in composition.
We are pre-judging composition. There is going to be some tactics with it. If you plan on going 5-0, then you score lower in Composition. If you plan on going 4-1 you need to score higher in composition.
Painting and sportsmanship is also subjective do we take them out of events and just run “Ard Boyz” events. That is what is great about the GW circuit there is a GT for everyone.
I highly recommend Mechanicon. Tony and guys run a great event. Our event is typically in October, but do to unforeseen conditions it got pushed to November, but I did see this being a problem, because we have totally different events.

I do not see how pre-judging helps. Does this mean someone who scored low can resubmit with a new list until they achieve the score they are looking for?

I originally had concerns with the subjective system. However, what Jay didn't clearly lay out is that they are not only pre-judging comp, but they are willing to do it multiple times for each player providng a score and feedback each time so that the player can adjust their list and come away with a comp/power balance that they are comfortable with prior to ever attending. It is also not simply 1 or 2 people's subjective opinions, it is a hefty 6 person council.
Having had to do simply list verification for Warmasters, I cannot imagine how much work an undertaking like this will take, but I applaud the effort!
I look forward to a tournament not over run by Interweb lists and people who can spam the latest mechanic with the best mathematical edge. Instead, I am looking forward to games against good generals who are thinking outside the box and using the tools they have selected within the system Da Boyz lays out.
Its still a competitive system, it just changes the angle of attack for this particular competition.
Later,
WR

Nothing wrong with running a comp tournament so transparently. While people such as myself might cringe at judges deciding what lists would be "fun" to play against or not (quote from the doc), there's no wrong here. If you attend, you attend in full knowledge of what is expected of you - which is all a tournament should be responsible for.
Also, major bravo on the ridiculous hard work it'll be prejudging repeatedly various peoples' lists. Looks like it'll be a fantastic tournament!

Isn't this the Australian comp system and what they do at their GT's down under? It sounds interesting and I would like to give it a try.
