Hello,
I've read here on dakkadakka so many good blogs and other threads, I've decided that I want to make a bad one No, honestly I just wanted a place where I can ask questions and your opinions about my very very WIP Iron Hands chapter. I'm sure this blog won't be updated too often as I'm very slow with modifications and painting. I don't have too much money to spend on the hobby, so I can only buy new stuff after I managed to sell some of my Tau or get some extra income. No worries though, at least I will have time to modify my glorious Omnissiah-loving soldiers.
A few words about the army. Though I love winning battles, my priority here is to make the army fluffy enough. I only play against a friend of mine for now, so I don't have to build something extremely competitive.
About the looks. I want to add some bionics here and there and a few servo arms as well, only for the looks. (A devastator who has a servo arm helping to aim with the heavy bolter isn't blasphemy I think... Uhhh, well... ) My vehicles will be modified a bit as well. For example I just got 2 MK.1 Rhinos off eBay awfully painted and missing a few parts and I plan to refurbish them differently. After hundreds of years of battle with so close connections to the Adeptus Mechanicus a few differences aren't surprising I think.
The chapter's colors will be traditional and uniform. Black armor (red helmet for the sergeants, white for the veterans), metal eagle on the chest, metal trim on the shoulder pads, white insignia (I chose the clan with the 3 nuts in it's symbol, I think They are called the Kaargul clan) and green eyes. A few marines that are really obsessed with the Adeptus Mechanicus may wear it's red color on their armor of course...
So, let this be the first post, I hope I can update this thread often and that You understand my English. Any opinions, suggestions and questions are welcome!
Oh and I'll attach a pic about the Rhinos tomorrow!

Here are a few pics about the Rhinos.
The one with the white front didn't have the 2 armor plates there, so I made that part of... well of the bottom of a chinese food box, I don't have plasticard. It doesn't look that bad. I made it's 4 exhaust pipes out of plastic tube, that wasn't so hard. The hard part with it was removing 2 exhausts because they weren't straight and on a level with each other. Now I'm looking for headlights to both of them. Today's work will be stripping hopefully, if I can get some more acetone.
The other tank is highly modified but not really in the way I'd like it to be... After stripping I'm going to remove the unnecessary parts and We'll see what We have. To be honest I'm kinda interested in this part because I've noticed many older parts on it, like 2 meltas on it's sides if I'm correct, something bigger twin-linked on it's front (maybe an old multimelta?) and the tanks on the front.
I love these models, I wanted my chapter to resemble that It isn't newly founded and They have really seen war. I think some Mk.I. vehicles, some old flamers or meltas and a few figures in old armor can be a good addition to this image.

While not really 'highly modified', more 'moderately converted' tank number 2 looks quite good.

Well I hope You'll say about the same after I've worked a bit on it. Honestly I don't like it at all, but getting an MK.I. Rhino still on sprues would have been much more expensive.

I run about 4 old rhinos in my space wolf army. A lot of people compliment me on how good they look. Its nice to field something that looks different.
Your Rhinos are looking good. Keep up the good work!

Looking good. I like the idea of older patterns of vehicles for Iron Hands. Maybe check out the Forge World MkII and MKV kits? Not cheap, but you could do a few models from each squad, sergeants, heroes, etc with older armor.

Oh I fear I wasn't clear about the Rhinos. I bought them off eBay and this is how they arrived. Well not really, since I've worked some on the first one already (adding exhaust pipes, adjusting exhausts, creating something to the front) but the point is I just uploaded the pics to show how they look now and probably I'll upload some WIP photos on the way.
And now for something completely different.
Here's my first modified marine, which I made this afternoon. I quite liked it to be honest until I saw the photos. I think taking pictures about your models can strongly affect your mood. Not in this case though because I'm still kinda satisfied with it. I will still have to remove some mold lines though. Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks for your opinion!!!
I've already bought some transfers to make my own, so I'll give that a try first.
I saw the chapterhouse conversions, but I don't want every rhino to be Mk1, honestly I like the Mk2 more, but I just have something for the Mk1.... And it's really fluffy with the Iron Hans in my opinion. Automatically Appended Next Post: whalemusic360 wrote:Very nice bionic leg, looking forward to seeing more!

Hi, I like the conversion on the bog standard Marine & look forward to seeing it painted. I had an Iron Hands army ages ago and have a bit of a soft spot for the flesh replacing nutters. I'm working on some old MK 1's myself and still like the minis. If you feel like it you could strip them, although they look good enough for a re-paint to me. I look forward to your future posts

Lord_J wrote:Like it so far! Are you gonna convert every marine in the army, or a few selected?
I think every marine would be too much somehow, but I'd like to convert more than a few, about 60% of them... We will see how it will go, how much time will I have and else. I don't really want to modify scouts for example since they don't understand yet truly how weak is the flesh, in my opinion. I'm really thinking about however some servitor-scouts or something like that and if I'll have motorist marines, They certainly won't ride a bike but be mounted on some chassis...
Sageheart wrote:liking it so far, cant wait to see more!

Yes I will try some definitely. Legs just seemed a bit easier. I will have to buy some smaller drill-bits for that and some file too since I don't have any specific tools for modeling and while making this marine it became obvious that some are needed.
Thanks for both of your comments!

I just tried to do an arm today, but it didn't turn out as good as I wanted. You just don't have enough space to work. (It was a completed model I bought used.)
I couldn't even snap a better pic of the figure so I fear I wouldn't be able to do a decent tutorial. After I have created one which I love I'll do one more with WIP pics, ok?
On the pic attached the marine has a bionic arm from the elbow, though I didn't do anything with the hand. Maybe next time, though I think that must be the hardest. I'm not sure You can see it well because of the poor quality picture but there's a wider rod holding the hand itself, and there are 4 cables running down to the wrist to control the small motors there which move the wrist and the fingers.

Hey there! Grab yourself a bargain if You want to have some Mk1 Rhinos! This seller on eBay has 2, for £4 each. Alas He doesn't ship to Hungary so I can't get them but I think They are dirt cheap.

Good luck!

Good luck with your project man, I do like your conversions. The direct link from your leg to the power pack was clever.
My White Iron Marines are a sub chapter of the Iron hands, so I have always wanted to do bionics with them but could never get an effect like yours, so I gave up on that, looking at your stuff makes me want to revisit them and give them a few new brothers.

Alas I am not good at painting at all so maybe It's better if You can wait to see them painted rather than see the horrible results
genericUser wrote:what did you use to cut the thigh on the first space marine ? It just looks like such a clean cut.
My trusty old blunt hobby knife After You gave it a try You'll realize this is not a hard thing to do at all. I think the main thing You should keep in mind is that You just can't go wrong. On the second marine for example the shoulder pad is damaged, so I will go back and damage it a bit more just to seem like it was on purpose and to resemble battle damage. If You cut the knee part of the armor don't worry, You can do the same thing with the battle damage there, or You could remove that as well with the thigh or else... After all these bionics are more or less unique in my opinion, made on the marines' request so You don't have to follow any rules by making them. Just my two cents.
