Hey I just noticed your thread. Congratulations on some really nice conversion ideas. I love that bionic leg with the wire sticking out of the side.
It's a shame you feel like you are bad at painting. It is a meticulous skill painting miniatures, not necessarily an art form. You don't need talent to paint miniatures, you need patience.
At first it may take you a while longer to get the hang of it, but anyone who can hold their hand steady can paint a figure. For now though, it seems like the converting is the first project to work on.
I had a technique for 'armor damage' that I used when I wanted my Marines to look battle worn:
For Vehicle armor plate, I took a cigarette lighter to the side armor of my Rhino for just long enough to get the plastic to buckle a bit and get some scuffed looking blemishes and textured ;like it has been showered by shrapnel. Be careful you don't melt it too much though. I ruined one side of my predator when I first tried this out, accidentally made a hole in it (which I painted around to make it look like a direct hit from some big weapon). The other side I got it right by moving the lighter around more quickly so the heat wasn't in one place for too long and didn't melt a hole in it.
For bullet scuffs, I heated up a pin and poked it into the armor at a slight angle and made a line of dots, representing automatic fire glancing off of the plate. The bullet scoring works on vehicles and marine armor, and definitely makes it look like it's been through battles. Using the pin on its side can make a slashing effect like some kind of sharp weapon chipped into it and left a scrape across it.
Anyways great work so far, I look foreward to seeing how this progresses.
cheers

Thanks for your comment, Guitardian! I'l try to do my best with painting but sometimes it's rather hard with my shaky hands.
That's why I'm glad that the Iron Hands' colours are so simple. I can't really go wrong with it. Well, I'm really afraid of the eyes and the details of course, but We'll see...

I have shakey hands too. it helps to hold the figure in your one hand, the brush in the other, and brace them against each other at the base of your palms by the wrist. You press your wrists together as you paint and it becomes much more stable. Try it sometime

Hello,
Here's my 3rd marine blessed with some bionics from the Omnissiah. This brother has been severely damaged by an explosion and lost almost half of his body, but thanks to the busy techmarines got his limbs replaced and now He fights with more devotion than ever.
Honestly I'm not that satisfied with this marine but I hope I can hide some of the nasty parts with the painting. This is one of my fav marines btw, I love his helmet design, the scope on his weapon and his older leg armor as well. The pics show more than I can tell, if You have any questions though, please ask!

Well I'd buy those parts as well but I don't have the money now Well yeah It's not that interesting making these conversions, but It's not that bad, You could give it a try
I got fed up with the conversions for now btw, because my marines' hands are melted to their chest or their legs and I can't really do anything with them besides the leg modifications. I have to buy new marines which have separate hands...
I should also pay some attention to my rhinos... Some marines, 2 rhinos and a dreadnought and so much work to do...

Now that You say it.... Yes, I agree with You... I always try to keep it in mind though They have to walk(run) with these things so the cables have to be a bit longer to give some freedom to move. I still think that this one is a bit long though
To be honest with this model I wanted to do something that is TOO much. I mean too many cords or wires, idk how to put it differently. This is because I think there are limits to this kind of modification, I mean not just my modeling skills but after a certain amount of wires and other things on the model It just gets too much. I don't know how to say it differently, sorry.

Hi there!
Sorry but there aren't any tutorials yet. University has started yesterday and I began to study Turkish. In the first few weeks I'm always a good student, so there might be a bit less posts.
Anyway I've stripped the rhinos and I'd like to ask what You think about them. The first one is much better in my opinion than the second, and I really don't know what to do with that. Its body is bent, its kinda poorly constructed and that white primer just didn't wanna come down. What to do with it? I guess I'm gonna use it anyway because I'm not in the position to throw away a tank, but You know... I'm not sure I could construct it much better either, but well... Please tell me if You have any ideas!
I also attached a pic about how much stuff came down off the rhino I don't even know what are these items, I guess there's a stormbolter, a half multimelta, 2 meltas (not complete), a smoke launcher, 2 tanks of some kind and one thing I don't have any ideas about...

those rhinos looks awesome, i woudl detail the inside a bit, maybe have a marine wired up into the tank itself. there is a place for you to put TOO much wires
i understand what you meant about wanting to have TOO much, but on taht model it just seems to me that the wires are so long it looks off. i would say try in order to have a model with "TOO" much, i would just put tons of wires goiing all over the place rather than a few long ones, if that makes sense?
still loving it!

I agree with You absolutely! I didn't want to resemble _too much_ with the long wires, They just turned out this long Now as I look at this figure again on the pics I kinda dislike it... Thank You Sageheart...! -_- Just kidding I'll try to make a better one next time, I've already got an idea about how to put more (thin) wires there because those are kinda tricky for me... That's why I only have so few usually. Thanks for the comments btw, they really helped.
Thank You for your comments, nurgles_warrior and revackey!
Hope to create tutorial soon as requested, I'm thinking about 2 new methods, I hope 1 of them will work

Pieces in the last pic:
- a heavy flamer ( was part of the old vehicle upgrade sprue ) and 2 tanks . Normally used for heavyflamer sponsons/front heavy flamer
- a boltgun style thingy, 2 of them represented the basic stormbolter included in a rhino.
- a front ram ( just for show I think, also part of upgrade sprue )
- a smoke launcher
- the rear mounted piece wich may count as rear lights.

OT with the 2nd Rhino. I'd try to scrape and file the excess glue off and add plasticard and GS to fill the gaps. Give areas of exclusive glue buildup some "battle-damage" effects like it got hit by some powerful weapon there.
For example, I got this vindicator used, and the shield was messed up, so I pulled it off, along with the armored attachment points. This side was glued pretty heavy, so I couldn't get it all clear. I used some different shades of silver (boltgun metal and Mythrl Silver). I've used it in a few games and it hasnt come up yet.
