So, with the release confirmed, will all the people who were turned off to the army suddenly be turned on? Or will it be the usual "FoTM" rush, and then die off?

Personally, I liked the old DE rules well enough, could've used an update, but everything is cheep and effective, it just can't take any hits. The thing that turned me off were the absolutely stupid models, and that warrior helmet, I just hate that thing. Whyces were ok but dated and metal, here's hoping for a plastic box.

Thankfully whole range is getting redone, I'll have to look at the codex first though.

What about the rest of dakka? What would change your mind?

A complete revamp of the overall aesthetic. I loathe the entire style of the Dark Eldar models. Sadly, the "revamp" of the figs will probably just be more detailed models, as I can't think of any time they've completely changed the overarching aesthetic for a range.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only rules disputes.

Personally won't play simply because of their playstyle, fragile and unforgiving. My Chaos allows me to correct my errors well enough and my Necrons keep me on my toes at all times enough as is, I don't want to endure the same with yet another army. Really just never felt the pull to play that army also, regardless of models.

Beautiful models will do it for me. So long as they don't screw up the fluff. I just love the entire S&M kinky thing they got going on. I mean, everyone in the 41st millenium is a killer, but the Dark Eldar really know how to have fun with it.

I don't think anything will tempt me to play them. Just not really interested in starting another army and their fluff and playstyle isn't all that interesting to me either.

I may proxy some Eldar as Dark Eldar if I ever feel the need to though

To play them would have to look over the codex and test play them in store, did buy into them when they first came out but never had a game with them before I dumped them for having gak models. Still have them, used generaly for bits and making corpses on the battle feild.

However depending on how the models look, may well buy into them for hobby collection. But they would have to be damn awesome for that to happen.

Dark Eldar have a good following but even as a player of them i can see why some don't choose them. They're (mostly) not tough and rely on close ranged fire support and close combat + speed to blitz an enemy. When things go right for Dark Eldar they're nigh unstoppable. But one mishap can bring their tactics falling down around them. I still love them though. As much of a glass cannon they are so to speak.

Only reason I never played them was the model range. If the new models are as good as the hype, they'll be on my list of purchases.

I'm pretty happy with the Dark Eldar just as they are. If I can use my existing army with the new Codex, I will continue playing them. Otherwise I will drop them.

If DE were to suddenly turn into 8 foot tall power armored super men then I would pick up an army. Or if a certain DakkaDakka themed event were to turn up I'd probably get exactly 500 points worth.

I'd need a pretty compelling reason to shell out for them. I played DE in the past, and only sold them because I simply wasn't going to finish painting the army.

I'm excited by them, but I simply can't afford to start an army from scratch right now, especially with five playable armies, two of them completley painted.

Nothing will convince me, nothing you hear me! Basically if they were more pirate and little to no freak show then yeah I'd think about it, but then they are no longer Dark Eldar. So no, never.

I must admit that my main interest in picking up a new DE army is to replace the one that I lost a few years ago.

The fact that they were my first army fills me with a sort of nostalgic pull to own them again.

I will admit that new models is a big selling point as well,I never much cared for the original models and am quite looking forward to seeing the new ones.

I know what you mean. Same boat here. First army, sold off them a few years ago. Cant justify spending money on the same models the state they're in right now.

I had an Eldar army in 2nd edition. When I heard there was going to be a Dark Eldar range I expected it to be something more like Chaos Eldar.

Chaos Eldar just sound awesome. Normal Eldar look quite cool, but being space faeries is a bit... well... gay.

I thought chaos might give them the harder edge that they needed. And I really liked the idea of some chaos scorpions led by their fallen phoenix lord.

But alas we never got got Chaos Eldar. DE just seem more like bondage exodites with the 'gay' turned up to max. And their ships look like they are made out of tyranid reject parts.

Then there is the fluff...

I don't think there is anything I like about Dark Eldar or anything that would get me interested in them. Chaos Eldar I might go for though.

While I agree on all points, SmackCakes, I ask two questions:

1) What's wrong with bondage and throwaway Tyranid parts? Are you going to try to tell me, with a straight face, that these are not two awesome things?

2) Do we really need more "Chaos" analogues? Does "Chaos" honestly need MOAR FACTIONS? I'm much happier with "evil, hedonistic Eldar" than I would be with "SEX FOR THE SEX GOD." They just about worship Slaanesh anyway, you can easily spin your DE Kabal to be open Slaanesh worshipers instead of the fairly indirect Slaanesh-worship the regular DE engage in anyway (what with all the hot sex and sacrificing innocents to harvest their soul essence and all).

No, seriously, I just dont have the loot to start up a new army. Although if I did, I would only consider DE if their rules were more balanced than the last time I played against them.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

New models, period. When I restarted 40K after skipping 4th ed and the first year of 5th, all I was hoping for was to start a DE army and that they would have all these lovely new models and toys in a shiny new codex to play with. Imagine my disenchantment when NOTHING had been done in 8-9 years. So, I restarted orks.

Now that the DE are imminent and GW put their best man on the job (well, I loves me some Brian Nelson, too), I am confident they will be what I hope for. They don't have to be super powerful, though they will probably be quite good. That's just gravy.

As far as FOTM, it will have that effect, at least partially. But if it's still a skill-based army, a glass hammer, you will see a lot of folks dropping it to go back to a more dummy-proof dex. But I think it will happen less and not because the DE won't be a strong army. But to restart a HORRIBLE model range from scratch will be a large investment for most folks. You can convert over your Marines to the FOTM Marines; you can't do that with DE unless you don't mind using the old models (which will be available dirt cheap on eBay after Saturday's reveal, I reckon).

So, yes, the models and play style are what will seal the deal.
