Where do you think you would fit in the rigid Tau caste system, not what you would like ideally but what you think you would realistically fit into.

Let us recall the Caste system in no particular order.

The Ethereal Caste: The Ethereal Caste consists obviously of the Ethereals, greatly trusted war advisors and idealogical leaders of the Greater Good. They are wise, fair and commanding. They are the leaders of the Tau and with their booming glorious voices they command the respect and attention of the entire Tau race who look to them for guidance.

The Air Caste: Gifted pilots with a skill in agility and quick reflexes, they command all Tau vehicles from the largest Tau battlefleet to a simple cargo vessel. They are excellent drivers and respected fighter pilots.

The Fire Caste: The military Caste, whether they be hot blooded nationalists or fanatic patriots the Fire Caste fight for the Greater Good with a fury befitting their name.

The Water Caste: A wideley diverse Caste from the beuracrats, teachers and philossophers of Tau society to the Artists, the Diplomats and the Envoys. With their creative hands and fluid voices they help the Tau cause in convincing their enemies of their superiority and keeping the system functioning.

The Earth Caste: The labour Caste, hard working and strong it is by the hand of the Earth Caste that the Tau Empire stands, from their towering, marvelous cities to the sophisticated and sleek Hammerheads which rank amongst their technological genius the Earth Caste is the building blocks of the Tau Empire.

I think I would be of the Water Caste.
I am no leader and I am not particulary talented in driving or have any interest in aerial flight, I am a pascifist and though I do find war fascinating I have a real distaste for it as a pointless but constant, unavoidable issue.
I am not particulary strong and I find labour tiring.

But I am an excellent diplomat, my job requires me to win over people through diplomacy and skill of words. I am a tad bit of an artists as I enjoy digital and traditional art and am quite talented at it. I am a philosopher by nature and find philosophy and ideaology fascinating. I like the Greater Good so I would have no problem in convincing people it is better then the Imperium, it simply is.
If your a Tau of course, because as we all should know Tau are first amongst equals even if they dont admit it and rumours of sterelization and racial cleansing give the impression that in the Tau Empire if your not blue, your equal but less equal then everyone else.

So where do you think you fit in the Greater Good?

I'm torn between earth or fire caste, but I'll go with earth since they're the scientists as well.

No where, since I would be executed for the "greater good."

A rebellious human faction on an isolated Tau world on the border of the Imperium, waiting for Imperial forces to land so we can strike back at the Tau.

I feeling a lot of tau hate in this thread. Is it because they're not psychopathic, xenophobic zealots, like the humans?

The op wrote "teachers and philossophers[sic]" under the water caste and this happens to be exactly what I am. Or will hopefully be, I'm working on getting a masters in education and doctorate in philosophy.

Let's be honest, only the greatest men or politicians have the right to say they'd be Ethereals... we're just a bunch of basement-dwellers here.

We'd all be Earth caste. We're just workers. Unless you're in the military, a diplomat or the president you're Earth Caste.

Xenophobia-Irrational fear or hatred of strangers comes from the greek (i think) xenos which actually means gueast.
The Tau could fear or hate human auxillaries but use them "for the greater good" anyway

That's a bit of a stretch, common language today has xenophobia as a fear of outsiders, strangers, foreigners etc. I suppose illegal and extraterrestial aliens could fit that too. Also the assertion was that they are as xenophobic as the IoM which I think is blatantly false.

Also I think guest is actually xena in greek but I could be wrong, and it refers to hospitality in general, not just a translation of guest....I think

working in a hospital is pretty admirable

Actually the bit about it being guest was me being annoyed at how time has twisted a word for guest into stanger and outsider. And yeah i know fear of outsiders etc etc
Also the IoM has xenophobia as their official status when in reality they are far more flexible and even help/enlist aliens whereas Tau have being nice as their official status but Xenophobia is sort of an undercurrent with them.
