Eternal Plague

Two things that I don't watch- Bill O'Reilly (for being a stuck-up know it all Conservative) and "The View" (full of stuk-up know it all women) actually had me looking at a clip and this news article because they both collided in a titanic clash of five year old spats and phobic viewpoints concerning Muslims.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_162-20019660-10391698.html

NEW YORK (CBS) Bill O'Reilly got into a heated discussion on "The View" and his comments about the mosque near Ground Zero prompted two of its co-hosts to walk off camera while the show was on the air.

The Fox commentator was a guest on ABC's talk show Thursday to promote his new "Pinheads and Patriots" book. The discussion got increasingly heated over the "Ground Zero Mosque" debate and he later went on to say "Muslims killed us On 9/11."

Co-Host Whoopi Goldberg disputed O'Reilly's claims that the mosque was inappropriate. "There were 70 families who are muslim who also died in that building," she said.

"Seventy percent of Americans don't want that mosque down there, so don't give me the 'we' business," said O'Reilly to co-host Joy Behar; the studio audience applauded.

Afterward, when pressed by Goldberg and Behar to explain why the "Ground Zero mosque" was somehow "inappropriate," O'Reilly leaned over and pointed at Goldberg saying, "Muslims killed us on 9/11."

Goldberg exclaimed , "That is such bullsh*t," in the midst of a cacophony of back-and-forth yelling. Goldberg shouted that "Timothy McVeigh [the convicted American-born terrorist who blew up the Oklahoma City Building in 1995] was Christian" before she and Behar walked off the set in protest. They later came back to finish the show.

Barbara Walters criticized her co-hosts for walking off stage during the live show. But she said O'Reilly should make the distinction that extremists committed the terrorist act.

Behar and Goldberg returned after O'Reilly said that "if anyone felt that I was demeaning all Muslims, I apologize."

Writers old man, writers

I dont like O'Reilly at all, but I too find the mosque idea a bit crazy. I know they(and any other religion) have a right to build one where ever. But I mean cmon, yes they were extremist Muslims, but they were Muslims all the same. It just seems a bit like sticking your finger in a bullet wound.

The thing I don't get is how this guy or any other pundit gets away with selling books. I could care less what they have to say, and to actually PAY good money to read it?

Amazing.

By the way, I certainly don't like the View, but O'reilly did stick the foot in mouth(whether on purpose of accidentally). He said "Muslims killed us" on 9/11. That point is debatable. Debatable in the sense that a lot of Muslims don't consider those terrorist "true muslims". I mean he was trying to imply that any muslim in the world is capable of doing something like what those Al Queda terrorists did.

Whoopi Gold berg was trying to make the comparison of Timmy Mcveigh, who claimed to be Christian. I question whether or not O'reilly would come out on the view or any other show and say "Christians killed us in Oklahoma City".

That is why they were upset. I don't call that an unintelligent argument.

He has an unhealthy looking tan on his face.

Wasn't he the one who thought the last judicial nominee (Elena Kagan) was gay because there was a picture of her playing softball?

I don't usually pay attention to these nutjobs but when people on TV preach that girl’s softball is only played by lesbians gives me rage.

Tim McVeigh was one person and an antig overnment nut.
How many terrorist attacks or thwarted terrorist attacks last twelve months in the US alone? What did they have in common? What was Hassan was shouting when he shot up Fort Hood?

Fort Hood doesn't count. Hassan was a US Army soldier making his attack state sponsored terrorism. SPONSORED BY AMERICA

Counting Fort Hood and going back to Jan. 2009 looking at Wikipedia's list a solid majority of "terrorist incidents" can somehow be tied to Islam, going back to 2008 it starts to even out a bit (~50%) since the majority of "incidents" in 2008 are probably not tied to Islam. No clue on thwarted.

Also someone bombed a Starbucks in NYC in May, 2009. Made me lol http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2009/05/25/2009-05-25_small_bomb_goes_off_outside_upper_east_side_starbucks.html

No, they just peddle drastically partisan pantomime masquerading as 'news' to further the personal interests of their multi-trillionare master inciting hate and misery on a daily basis. If they had pulled the same gak they're pulling on Obama on Bush jnr, they all would have been dragged away for social readjustment programming after being pilloried for being 'anti-American'. Under Bush jnr any criticism of the president was considered traitorous and the phrase 'Un-American' was everywhere, now it's flagrantly encouraged and excuses illiterate halfwits in fancy dress to march through the streets complaining about things that the last president actually laid down.

Of course the comparison wasn't accurate, no I don't think that they are equally bad, I was being acerbic... Mind you, if anyone does saw off Glen Beck's head and put it on the internet, I'd buy them a beer, assuming they were allowed to drink it...

What about the Aryan Nations/ KKK, that have formed a belief system called 'Identity" where they claim themselves to be Christians while proselytizing a racist cult of Christianity.

They aren't Christians, and it would be wrong for me to get on national television and say "Christians killed that Ethiopian immigrant" "Christians killed us when they firebombed that school in Alabama, killing schoolgirls"

And did they specifically do it in the name of God?

No, you can say "Islamic radical" or "Islamic fundamentalist".

Making a stupid, generalistic statement like "Muslims did it!" however is ignorance at its finest.

And yes, the abortion clinic bombers and the guy who wacked the 3rd trimester abortion doctor did do it in the name of God. The difference between them and Al Qaeda is Al Qaeda is an organization that has gone out of its way to pervert a religion to serve their own needs.

These abortion fundamentalist/radical groups don't need to do that. People interpret Christianity in enough ways that there's always some idiot willing to drink the Kool-Aid.

As for Joy Behar and Jesse Ventura...
So what? They believe something stupid, in spite of evidence to the contrary. Did you know there are people who don't believe in the moon landing?

Or hey, how about those ridiculously crazy people who think a deity sent his flesh and blood progeny to the material realm to die for our supposed "sins"? Crazy, right?

Yeah, nobody cares if you say Islamic radicals or Islamic fundamentalists have committed acts of terrorism or whatever else. Just like in this video, people usually only get pissed (and rightly so) when others start using the term "Muslims" as shorthand for "Islamic extremists."

I thought the whole thing was funny.

As far as the whole building the Mosque on (or near) ground zero I get that they have the freedom to do that but I agree that it is somewhat dissrespectfull to do it. Now to keep that fair I don't think that there should be any religious temples built there, but another thing I don't get is why do they HAVE to build the Mosque there? I don't think it's going to affect their prayers if the mosque is built somewhere else.

It was an example of how you can make any accepted theory that people believe in sound ridiculously stupid.

I could easily have said that "There are people who believe that every year, on December 24th, a fat man in a red coat flies around the world chucking Elf made gifts from a sleigh pulled by flying deer", but we all know Santa Claus isn't real so...

It's easier to use Christian beliefs as an example of wackiness. Because no matter how much logic you place into them, you're going to end up having to take things on faith--much like the 9/11 "Truther" movements do.

Actually it's more because I don't know enough about those religions to mock them.

I grew up Roman-Catholic. I know Christianity pretty well, thus it's easier to draw a line equating the absurdity of an organized, accepted belief system to the absurdity of a fringe conspiracy theory.
