But Christ himself tolerated and accepted abuse from disbelievers, he told his followers to turn the other cheek and to rise above perceived slights.

Whilst I am not a Christian myself, I read kanluwen's commentary and whilst, as I said earlier, it's certainly flippant and not overly respectful in it's structure, he's not exactly flaying vicars and crucifying goats.

The God that my grandmother describes to me is not a God to be offended by the sarcastic posts of a wargaming nerd on a forum about toy soldiers, He is a maker of universes and holds untold love for all.

On that note, I'm going to bow out of this, it's kind of wildly off it's original topic now.

PS: I still hate Fox News.

Please ensure you read the post I made 10 minutes prior to yours...

Ok, let me try that 'leaving the thread' thing again.

You already made the point about motivation being everything.

Do you call the American soldiers who fought in Iraq "oilmongering adventurers with a stake in paying back George Bush senior's vendetta against Saddam Hussein"?

Hell no, you don't.

When you're told that something is true and you don't have any real reason to disbelieve it...you don't question it.

And with organizations like Al Qaeda, they recruit very much like gangs do. They look for the uneducated, the poor, the people looking for somewhere to belong. They feed them bs fitted to match the recruit until there's no reason for their recruits to disbelieve it. They twist everything and remake it in an image that's useful to them.

Are the suicide bombers sincere in their beliefs as told to them? Yes. But it doesn't make them Muslim or Christian, not when they have to be told what their beliefs or the tenants of their faith are.

First of all, I have always heard that terrorists do decently recruiting educated people. http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/13/magazines/fortune/pluggedin_murphy_terror.fortune/index.htm

That aside, I'm not convinced ignorance of doctrine bars you from accurately being described as a member of your self professed religion.

I have read it now, but I think you posted it during the time that I was writing my post, as I had not refreshed the page for several minutes. I see now that you were not being flippant, and thank you for the clarification on that bit, even if it was posted ten minutes before mine.

I stand by the rest of my post though, and would have either way.

If you mock christianity nothing happens to you.

It's almost like that's one of the central tents of said faith! Imagine expecting people to hold to the ideals they so loudly proclaim, despite the growing tide of enemyofyourchoice that sweeps in front of them..even on the OT board of a wargaming website !111

It's almost as if the followers of said creed should simply.. I dunno.. turn the other cheek and demonstrate their faith that their religious belief is correct and, in the long run, they will be proven right and enjoy and experience the myriad delights of heaven whilst us godless heathens burn and write for all eternity in pools of fire/lines to buy stuff at a Forgeworld/Games Workshop event.

70 odd virgins indeed.

So, in summary, we've learnt, once again, that people, especially those from different social and economic situations across the globe, are something of a mixed bag and it's really hard to actually make anything like a sweeping generalisation about them when hastily typing out a response on the OT board of a wargaming website!

Truly astonishing.

Still. like buses, won't be long until the next thread is along no doubt.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
