Well just got an email of games workshop with this it then goes on to say a bunch of other stuff like what to buy now.
Incoming! Skaven
In January 2011, following the epic release of The Island of Blood, the Skaven will be receiving reinforcements, including new models - visit the website tomorrow for more information from the Studio. And with these new additions gathering on the horizon, there is no better time to start up or expand your very own Skaven army. Here are some essential items to prepare for war:
Plus it's fairly credible that a GW marketing campaign for their biggest release would fit on one side of A4 - Flashman
So this is what the manager of my local GW was talking about last week. Stuff released in january, but not a full new army release.
Off topic: he also said we'll get two new blisters of 40K grotz in december.
One blister supposedly contains about 5 or 6 new metal grot sculpts, and the other has two grotz in it "doing something special" (and no, not what some of you are undoubtedly thinking about right now).
I wasn't sure if I should make a topic out of this latter part, because people would say it is only a GW store manager's word.
Yes I saw this as well. My excitement was quickly replaced by annoyance though as the email simply says "we'll tell you tomorrow". Tell me today you jerks!

What were you expecting in a newsletter, news?
Seems to me to be a marketer's bright idea. 'We tell them something's coming, don't show it to build excitement, then make them come to our site to see it!'
Yeah brilliant, except for the bit where we all have lives and will forget this by tomorrow.
They do this because they didn't want dodgy pics of things from games day germany. It would have been better to do both though imo (showcase things at games day and send proper pics in the email today).

Yet all it takes is for a single thread to pop up on a half decent forum, and boom, lots of visitors checking it out for themselves.
I'm just more upset that it is another Skaven release. Didn't they just get a new book and a whole whack of new models last year plus the Island of blood box?
I was more hoping for new Inquisition or Sisters, or anything that didn't get nearly a whole new range since last year.
I'm also upset because I really wanted to start playing skaven again (first time since 5th ed). But it seems that everyone around me has Skaven and SKaven v. Skaven games can get pretty routine fairly quickly. So with all these new models, the band wagon fans will keep around a while longer.

At $14 each Jezzails are quite expensive now for unit building. Could they be going up in price with a new sculpt, making large units even more cost prohibitive?

This newsletter was confusing. It was a newsletter telling me that they'd eventually tell me something. Why don't they just tell me what it is now? Why does GW still fail to understand what newsletters are for? Why does GW still fail to understand what newsletters are for when Forge World, part of the same company, seems to get it? Do they not talk to one another? Do they have separate marketing divisions? Do they have a marketing division?
And why am I consistently proven to be correct whenever I say that with GW the right hand doesn't even know that the left hand exists, let alone what it's doing...

I hope that's not the offical model, or there are a heap of optional pieces that can be applied to make a few different looks. I like my custom model better :(

It was the new army book, the "Incoming Skaven!" is just new models.
Sooo, anybody has any idea which models are gonna be released in the upcoming wave? My hopes are in:
- New Ratling Gun and other weapon teams (such as the spiky ball, can't remember name)
- Plaguemaw Catapult
- New Jezzails
- New Globadiers
- Hellpit Abomnition
- Some Special Characters
Win/Draw/Lost statics
Space Orks: 11/1/1
Space Marines: 10/2/5
Lizardmen: 8/2/3
High Elves: 13/2/2 and one tournament victory!
Dark Eldar: 1/0/0

And yet you presumably subscribe to the newsletter (of which this snippet was only one part), you appear to have read it (no doubt scanning it carefully for something to be contemptuous/outraged about), and now you've posted about it (not sure if it's contempt or outrage - maybe both?). And you will check to see what the new models are, and almost certainly post about them too. Just as the deluge of positive reaction to the unveiling of the new Dark Eldar appears to have given the lie to your (many) pronouncements about the supposed idiocy of GW's secrecy policy, so this newletter seems to have achieved exactly what was intended. But don't let that stop you...
Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
So we are full circle now:
Newsletter: "New Skaven in January, watch GW website article tomorrow for more information."
GW website: "New Skaven in January. Subscribe newsletter to get more information."
Ah, forgot the trailer:
Trailer says: "Go to the website for more information." Website says: "Subscribe to newsletter for more information." Newsletter says: "Go to website for more information." Website says: ...

Great. You've successfully proven that you have the outstanding ability to state the obvious. Gold star.
Tailgunner wrote:And you will check to see what the new models are, and almost certainly post about them too.
Not really. Don't particularly care about Skaven, or much of Fantasy that matter. Orcs though - I like them. Might post on them. Lizardmen as well. Maybe even Tomb Kings when/if they get revealed.

I was part of that positive unveiling, but I'm not deluding myself to the reasons behind it. As has been stated by many people besides myself, the Dark Eldar are simultaneously a "big deal" and a "big risk" for GW because such an expenditure of resources isn't cheap, so from a business standpoint the DE release needs to be a success. That's the risk. It's a big deal because if it works, which I can only presume it will (or hope it will) it is likely they will take similar risks in the future for the other under-performing (READ: non-Marine/IG/Tau/Ork) armies in the game.
But y'know, you keep on trying to insult me. One day you'll manage to, and we can all throw a big party for you - Tailgunner, the man who toppled the big ol' Internet Toughguy HBMC!
