H.B.M.C. wrote:This newsletter was confusing. It was a newsletter telling me that they'd eventually tell me something. Why don't they just tell me what it is now? Why does GW still fail to understand what newsletters are for? Why does GW still fail to understand what newsletters are for when Forge World, part of the same company, seems to get it? Do they not talk to one another? Do they have separate marketing divisions? Do they have a marketing division?
And why am I consistently proven to be correct whenever I say that with GW the right hand doesn't even know that the left hand exists, let alone what it's doing...
I'm not sure that the differences with newsletters is down to ignorance. I see two methods in one company based on two popular methods of marketing today (well one popular one and one lazy one). On the one hand we have Forgeworld, a low tech, small scale division for collectors and connoisseurs. Then we have Citadel who do the mass marketing consumer side of things. Forgeworld keep to a traditional newsletter, nothing clever of fancy and very easy to run. This is the low tech end of things and suits the smaller scale hobbyist side of things. Then we have Citadel who drop hints once in a blue moon and get everyone frothing at the mouth. This is a more modern way of doing things. Companies like Apple and Blizzard do this all the time right down to the 'soon'(tm) concept. Apple have an announcement on Wednesday that a ton of people will watch even though they have no real idea what they are going to see other than web rumours. Citadel's approach is very similar, a few hints and tips and a lot of web traffic (that they don't have to police) gives a large amount of 'advertising' for a small amount of resource. I'm not surprised that the various divisions have split off this way especially given the rampant rumour hunting that goes on (just as with Apple and Blizzard).
Change is always difficult and the rumours and hinting way of marketing makes people ansty. The old fashioned 'tell it like it is' way doesn't create half the stress so people appreciate it's familiarity and dependability. Given that Forgeworld items cost a lot more they cant be so choosy how they get word out as it would hit them very hard if people became discontented. Citadel probably feel that their items will create more buzz and sell better whichever way they present it so they can be less choosy.

Didn't that newsletter say there would be more information on the website the next day, yet I'm finding that not to be the case at all. It's a bit bizarre and perhaps, underhanded as well.

I saw the vid, and I actually said, out loud, "What the Fudge Games Workshop". What was the point in that video. It showed us information we already knew, plus some animated rat eyes. 30 seconds of my life, wasted.
Lukez wrote:I just felt the need to comment on how bad that video was, just wow.
The negativity I usually see in rumors threads is generally unjustified and overly melodramatic, but I can't stand dishonesty so in this case I have to take the side of people complaining about what a let-down this all is. I wouldn't have a complaint at all if they hadn't said specifically in yesterday's email that there would be more information today, but that teaser video and the sales push on existing product hardly qualify as "more information" from the studio as was promised. If they weren't going to say more just yet that's fine, but then don't promise something you have no intention of delivering till you are actually ready to deliver it.

Constant Lurker, Slowly getting back into modelling! Someday a P&M Blog link will lurk here!
There are still several annoyingly fiddly expensive metal kits and there are army entries for which there are no models at all. Hopefully this release will fill some of those gaps. From what I've heard, at least two items coming this January should be pretty cool.

Plus several army book units not having a model. Sadly, the above seem not to get new models soon.
I like the new Skaven models. However WHFB in general just isnt for me...too many models to paint. I just dont have the time and patience for it.
If they made it prepainted Id probably go for it.
I wish GW would offer that for all models that are used in units. I really enjoy building, painting, and sometimes converting a special character or leader, but have no interst in painting 40, 50 or more nearly identical troops.
Id be willing to fork out $50 for a box of assembled, prepainted models that would have cost $30-$35 unassembled and unpainted. IE: SMtac squad, Ork boys, Skaven Clanrats, Dwarf warriors, etc.
Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too
Heh, I remember when those Night Runners seemed pretty cool, but that was after years of those bloody awful monopose clanrats from Warhammer Quest being the only plastic models in the Skaven line.
I like those monopose skaven, I have nearly some 150 of them as the core of my army! So much bigger makes the current ones I use as slaves stand out nicely!
My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....
I don't know. might as well throw a picture of a cute mouse in there too.

The solution to GW's lack of information is not a bunch of crazy off-topic material that also provides no useful info on the subject of new Skaven releases.

Since Island of Blood came out I'm thinking about making a Skaven army. I'm eager to see what the new minis are. But this "speak twice-say nothing" gak is just disgusting.
I better save my efforts for DE, I'll worry for WFB later.
I clicked on that trailer hoping to see something/anything ... and people are complaining about the trailer for the Ultramarines movie! Why bother GW, that trailer was a complete waste of everyone's life.

Can't put my finger on it but I don't like that model.......
Loved that Skaven video...must of taken a lot of production time to put that together....
On the model front I'd like to see some dedicated plastic slaves with all the options.........I know you've got the upgrade sprue but slaves should be smaller and weaker the clan rats.....

LOL
When I wrote that I was just thinking in the newsletter and the website from GW, I didn't realize it was actually quite fitting for Skaven

i think your seeing the face and perticularly the teeth, the front insisors are to small and the bottom ... er ...tusks???? look corney. Ears, lenght of head. the whole thing from the neck up needs a rework.
That skaven video is... undescribable. Anyhow, i'm looking forward to the new skaven, yet hoping that they don't release a war litter, or my efforts will be wasted:
