I know it is very unlikely, but not impossible.

Would he commit suicide as soon as possible, or bide his time to try to escape and wreak vengeance?

It's gotta be escape. But then again, it's probably a Chapter-specific cultural question. A bet a UM would consider escape the right choice. Also, it may depend on whether he was being questioned and what about.

He would most probably try to escape or die trying. Committing suicide while under capture would be considered less honourable than trying to make a heroic escape.

Lysander was captured, and killed his way out of an Iron Warrior Fortress Planet with nothing but his bare hands and rage.

I guess the short answer would be, they get angry. You wouldn't like them when they're angry.

Considering the basic toughness of an Astartes and all the various implants ect. that they have, keeping one as a POW would be difficult. Regular chains and handcuffs simply won´t stop a prison who can secrete acid. Interrogating one will need some special ( most likely psychic ) means. Physical torture is rarely efficient since the whole physique of marine is designed to make him resistant to pain and injury. And as a final resort he can simply slip into a voluntary torpor.

So in short: no suicide. Barring some extreme situation ( forced daemonic possession comes to mind ) a marine would seek a chance to escape or attack his captors.

Actually if you read thebook "Black Tide" there is at least one author's version of what would happen to captured marines and I tend to agree with that view. And in the Ultramarines books Uriel Ventris was a prisoner of Honsou at one point as I seem to recall

There is also fluff detailing the capture of a marine such as Darnath Lysander who then returned to command again.

I think it would depend on who captured them, why and in what shape they were and what opportunities they had to escape or rebel.

It might have done i wasn't there.
What i meant was the entire population ended up fighting itself in a battle to the death.
This battle also involved a dragon... yeah i'm never sure if i read that bit right.

In the new dark eldar codex

Spoiler:
There is a story about a small Salamander ship thats teleported into Commoragh. The SM lock themselves inside and hold out as long as possible, killing a lot of dark eldar and forcing the DE to just give in. They manage to send out a message for help and eventually a load more Sallies turn up in large battle ship and fly straight into commoragh. There is a Big battle and they kill most of the leading Kabals. They appear to be trapped then break free and flee Commoragh. Not all of the marines make it back to the ship in time, those that can't lead suicide attacks against the clearly unbeatable numbers of DE.

This leads me to think they would just try to break free at the best oppurtunity and if freedom is impossible, just try to kill as many of their captors as they can. I f the SM manages to escape but can't get back to the chapter it would probably just try to cause a much damage as possible.

Depending on their location they may also try to contact their chapter, and call for help. Some chapters will try to help just to make a point (i may teach them capturing SM is a bad idea) and other will just take the chance to find out where the enemy base is.

Hmm, involving dark eldar?
You're stating the wrong question:
It's not what would happen if a sm was captured..
It's

If I have to explain the joke, it'snot funny. Oh well.

Yeah, if a dark eldar captured a space marine, what wouldn't he do to him? Pretty much nothing...

No a very good joke really...
If you had implied general tortue etc then fine but it's sort of hard to get personally.
I mean that's just me who knows i think tone has a lot to play in jokes so that might be it.

Well, on the darker scale of things, one story involves a Space Marine who infiltrates a Chaos warband. They find him out, capture him, and put him inside a dreadnought sarcophagus. He couldn't see, hear, smell, feel, move, or do anything besides think. Since they never let him into a dreadnought suit, he was doomed to that fate for however long that sarcophagus lasted for.

Ouch.

He was a renegade Astral Claw and he was turning Imperial which is why he was betraying them. i personally think it's a great story.

I really agree that it's chapter dependent. It also could be dependent on who they get captured by. Getting captured by the Tau might not be near as bad as getting captured by the Kroot or Chaos. Getting captured by Khorne Berserkers might fair better than getting captured by the Emporer's Children or Dark Eldar. On a side note in Vietnam some special forces considered the last bullet in their side arm their own because some South East Asian torture wasn't too friendly especially in the department of glass tubes.

The Dark Angels are the kings of torture, seeing as they spend most of their off time toturing the fallen till they confess their sins, so i'm sure they are taught to resist torture as well as give it. Due to the physiology of a SM it would require alot to break one, they would most likely wait it out till they can rip a large piece of flesh off their captor. If they can get off the xeno/rebel/chaos world they will so they can get to an imperial ship/world and contact the chapter, if not they will go rambo and kill as many as possible.

Indeed it is and I think it's also a great interpretation Huron. I prefer it to the version of him in Skull Harvest, he doesn't appear quite as mad or sadistic in that.

Here's the link to the story for those who might be interested

There's a story in Legend of the Space Marines called The Returned about a Doom Eagle who was captured and managed to escape and also Apothecary's Honour where an Avenging Son Apothecary is captured and dissected by a World Eaters apothecary, seems they had a lot to talk about during the procedure and exchanged tips ...
