It was my Skulltaker, In entered it in the under 18 medium sized, and I got in the top 3 in that category out of the whole of 2 states. And alot of people here said I wouldn't get to that stage!

And that DP isn't mine!

Bragging about it does little without some pics otherwise this should prob go to the Dakka or 40k general forums. Even better, wait until the finals are done, then show your mini and tell us how you went.

Grats for your mini though.

I did alot more work on it, and like I said, believe me if you wish.
When I went to the state finals, the judge (GW staff member) said I was onto the last round, Grand Final, im only going on what he said!

and he posted the picture of it and i dont know how to post pictures (i forgot) so yeah.

And i put it on to prove I did it becasue use all said I wouldn't make it to any of the rounds, but im not going to argue!

So I take it your competition knows nothing of thinning their paints?

Don't get too excited just yet, that's fine tabletop quality, and good for a beginner, but you've got a long way to go.

From some of the entries I saw in the Brisbane store (junior category) I'd guess that the competition standard is pretty high, don't be upset if you don't win.

Enjoy the experience for what it is,

Learn and make your entry better next year..

You will only improve with practice

I dont expect to win anyway, I will make my figure better for next year, but just to say something to clarify this, we might do things different here in Australia to your country, does it really matter and my paint was thin, im not here to argue!

Generally thick paint would obscure detail regardless of geographic location. It doesn't look too thick, besides the flame on the skull and maybe the sword. I really don't see a problem with the amount of paint on it.

Honestly I think it looks decent enough for the event. Win or lose you still end up with a decent centerpiece for your army.

Ugh, that DP...a good paintjob does make it look slightly better, but it's still a horrible kit.

Chaos is one of those armies I could have gotten into, but then Codex: CSM happened and they started getting models that looked like that, so...I guess I'll never do a Legion after all.

Anyway, as for the Skulltaker submission, I've seen much worse...

The black on the cape looks really thick to me. Might just be the lighting.

I like it, though I'm not entirely sold on the heating effect for the sword, I don't think you used different color layers.

But don't let anyone get you down, you've gotten farther then a lot of these people (self included) so congratz! Enjoy.

I'd say the same thing I'm saying now. It's a fine tabletop miniature, but you still have a long way to go if you want to paint some really cool stuff. Winning an award is fine and all, but you need to remember that there's huge room for improvement.

Since you said you made it into round two on your post October 10th, are you trying to say you've been in a Golden Demon contest that's been being judged over the last 13 days or more?

It seems that this is how it´s down in the land down under.

Regional qualifiers and then a grand final?

Oh, and congratz on getting to the finals, would be cool if you placed, but even so, don´t just sit back and think that you´re done learning.

As others have mentioned, there´s always room for improvement. Things like contrast colors, the focus areas of a model, and having clear division between areas of paint still have room for improvement.

You´re on the right track though,

Also, try to remember that there´s a huuuge difference between how people judge models on here.

It all depends on what you say your goal is.

If this model was purely for gaming, the standard would be quite a way lower than where you´re at.
But since you´ve said that it´s for a painting competition, people are going to hit you with questions about every little thing.

This doesn´t mean your work is bad, it simply means that in competitions the standard is much higher.*

*Just reread my post. By this I mean the standard is higher than for table top, not than your work.
